| Cracker07-10-05, 06:39 PM | Okay, so whats better then facing a red dragon? The Player sitting right across from you! I would like to come up with away for two characters to duke it out. Now this can seem unfar since a tenth level wizard can make a quick death for any fighter of equal level. If you believe you have the best character try him/her out, one on one with another of another of a similar class. Guidelines: 1. Character must be of tenth level. 2. Character must be based on a 28 point buy. 3. Use only standard 3.5 rules, meaning only core books. I will also include Psionics, but only from the 3.5 revised edition. Note: Psions maybe taken out depending on your feed back. 4. Magic Items is limited too half your starting gold. Meaning I dont want players spendig all their money on one item....why waste our time. 5. Multiclass is allowed, but must be approved by me....This may change for balance. 6. No, LEADERSHIP FEAT, but Animal companions are allowed. Basically Anything allowed to you class is granted. 7. Guidelines may change due to unfar play. There are things I may miss, hey I am only a 5th level Human. Class match ups, who can fight who: Barbarian: bards, Fighters, Paladins, Rangers, Monks, Rogues. Barbs: All...I want to see what you can do, and give bards a good name. Cleric: Bards, Wizards, druids, Paladins, Sorcerers, Psions, Psychic Warriors. Druid: Bards, Clerics, Wizards, Sorcerers, Psions, Psychic Warrior Fighter: Barbarian, Bards, Paladins, Rangers, Monks, Rogues, Psychic Warrior. Monk: Barbarian, Bard, Fighter, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Psychic Warrior. Paladin: Barbarian, Bards, Clerics, Fighters, Monks, Rangers, Rogues, Psychic Warrior. Ranger: Barbarian, Bards, Fighers, Monks, Rogues, Psychic Warrior. Rogues: All except clerics and druids. Sorcerer:Wizard, Druid, Cleric, Psion, Psychic Warrior, Bards. Wizard: Bards, Clerics, Druids, Sorcerers, Psions. Psions: Bards, Wizards, Sorcerers, Cleric, Druid, Psychic Warrior. Psychic Warrior: All but Wizards, and Sorcerers. Note: Characters of the same class may battle. We will see who is the best of the best. This is not a tournament, its first come first serve. A win/lose score will be given to each player. I would like to keep the wilder out since it has to no purpose....seriously what a waste of a class. Just post your character here and well see what we can do. I will have to figure out combat and scenerio....giving me character backgrounds will help alot...If your "guy" is a gladiator, a knight, evil, etc. Its always good to give a "dm" something to work with....Also I will play this as a greyhawk campagin so, look for things in the world that you can use via background, etc. Warriors: 1.The Foresaken One (class: soulknife?) 2. Kynn Elfsong (class: unknown) p.s. Anyone who can show me a good Bard will get a cookie....well maybe a fake internet cookie....Ooooo sweet 101001001 goodness. |

And I do think, that I (... meaning: my character) can take out any class, so if he wants to, he shall take a wizard, sorcerer or cleric. PS: I would vote for average hit points (full on 1st level, half every other, the overall rounded down). And especially in an arcane duel, I would send the character to the dm (this is you, Cracker), so that the second to post his character is not able to prepare just what he needs against the first one. PPS: You said one item may not be more then 50% of the starting gold. Is this a mean, fix 50%, or a fair, nice about 50%? (Would 53% be allowed, too?) And what about custom items (specially the same enchantments as fount on other items for a diffrent slot)? |

I'd rather like to see the Complete Books used though ;) -your call but you did ask (sort of) Anyway it's your call. I won't fight any psionics though. I think I'll build straight Druid if anyone wants to take me on (with a non-psion) but it will take me while. I second the point about private character sheets. Public information should be limitted to a description (giving some hint as to physical stats and equipment but nothing definitive -class is already known) |

However in this case I agree, that a warrior-kind of character does hardly have a chance against a mage or priest character, complete arcane and divine are much more overpowered then warrior (through, with some luck ... Seriously, this is the way to go, the other challenges have been done this way, this works, its tried, tested, and true. Unless of course you wanna give yourself headache after head ache then go ahead, allow the complete books, allow multiclassing, and all prc's. if that's the case then here's my char: Fight 2/scout 4/warlcok 2/psywar 1/ Hulking hurler 1 ....if you didnt get that, its called satire, I was illustrating how bloody annoying its going to get for you if you allow all that stuff, mainly because most players dont know the rules well enough to be allowed use all that stuff, hense why we have a DM; which you can see in the above example, RAW wise its not even close being a legal character, but that wont stop players from trying sh1t like that. |

| GuardianAngel07-11-05, 01:54 PM | Wow...... a few things kynn....and take this is the most good humored way Switch to decaff Secondly, I personaly, Am tired of the no multiclass "lets pit each class agaist each other" compitions The wizard at higher lvl would kill most (i say most becuase not to hurt any fighter lovers out thier) fighter types, and even some skill monkeys out thier. The druid is tried and tested to be one of the best classes, now you can mix some other classes in thier it gets intresting to see the builds people can come up with. But that is how life (and especily DnD) is not one person is 100% one class they like/tend towards something alittle diff. thirdly, if you would like to make such a thread with those rules, then go ahead. /rant off |

And I only posted those rules for the sake of Cracker. But I mean, if he's willing to allow multiclassing, complete series, MM races, Psionics, and PRC's then sweet more power to him, right!! I know I'll enjoy pulling together a PVP character capable of dishing out some major asskickery!!! but honesty, I've seen what works and what doesnt, and when we allow all these extra goodies we invite some severe issues into the mix. his call tho |

Her father, named Ierok, was a fierce warrior that fell defending a caravan from bandits, he didn't die but was hurt badly. With the caravan wounded it left the bodies were they lie. A few days go by with no one traveling this road Ierok wakes up and notices he was left for dead. Worried he sought out food and drink, hearing a waterfall he went towards the sound. Famished he drunk the water as if it were the last in the world, manageing to catch some fish in the water he made a small camp for himself. Devon's mother, Kristen, was traveling to her favorite spot in all the relams, a secluded water fall just off the road. Upon reaching ear shot of the water she heard splashing around, baffeled she approched cautiosly. Peering thru the foliage she gasped at the seen, a half nakid beast of a man was in her waterfall trying to catch a fish with a sharp stick. She then noticed that he was badly wounded, she approuched the man and spoke to him. Ierok turned to the heavenly voice he heard from the forest edge to see the most beautiful women he has seen in ages. Dressed in a purple gown with black hair down to the small of her back. Needless to say they both fell in love and had Devon. Furious that his Daughter had given herself to this beast, Kristen's father had bandits steal the child away and give to the church of Hextor. Devon's knowledge of her life: She grew up in the confines of an underground temple to her god Hextor. Being alittle strong then most she found out that hard labor would be her job, learning the fighting style of the monk's who reside in the temple to defend herself from the other worshipers. You have got to be kidding me!!" exclaimed a young cleric of Pelor in disbelief. The burly Inn Keeper chuckled and replied, "nay! Tis true, I have never met one, but they are around, a suspicious lot though, slacker's for the most part, no better than a Bard!" A new voice, from off to the right, sounded with indignation in response, "no better than a Bard you say? We are the protector's of goodly merchants, guide's in unknown lands, and great scholars! Farewell friends..." he spun and walked towards the door, at last saying, "safe journies!" with that he was gone and the two men looked at each other with fear in their eyes. ~~~ Nymrael Silverroot, the bastard son of an Elven Noble, naturally took the wanderer's path. In his youth he had never considered becoming a man of the Cloth, in fact he had turned his face away from Corellon Larethian. Yet, it was upon the fatefull night of his departure from his Elven homeland that he encountered a kindly old human male, old by human standard's anyways, Nymrael was easily twice the man's age. The old man was heading straight into the Elven woods, knowing that only death would follow him, Nymrael stopped him, warning him of his folly. Yet the old man needed to go through the woods, his young daughter had taken ill and she was in a small village not three kilometres from the woodland realm's edge. The young elf was distraught, he knew that the arrows of his brother's would not fail, with no better place to go he offered to guide the man with some swiftness to the village bordering his native land, he knew these lands well, although the journey would asuredly take them an extra three days. The old man, resigned, agreed to follow. As they traveled, it became apparent to the young elf, that the seemingly old man had more energy than the elf could ever mustre, more often than not the human leading the way! As they reached the village Nymrael was near exhaustion, he knew that he should not have been exhausted thus, it was an easy journey one which he had made in his childhood many times. Still he kept on, knowing that to fall now would only mean death for his companions young daughter. Finally, standing above the enfevered beautiful maid, the elderly man pleaded his young counterpart to help her; it was apparent that she would soon pass over! Nymrael's vision became blurred as did the panicked voice of the old man, which he thought strange that he still called him the old man and hadn't learned his name. Suddenly, he became aware of a distant yet strangely lucid whisper coming frmo somewhere to his left, it was the voice of the old man. The room became very dark and quiet, the old man stood beside the girl, his face calm and filled with a strange inner light. Place your right hand on her forehead and your left on her stomach, he tried to focus his eyes but to no avail, his hands seemed to move of their own accord doing as the old man bid. Now focus your Devine fire, focus it's warmth through your hands and into the girl he did as he was bid once more, he could feel the warmth spread into the girl and he could feel her fever suddenly drop, her brow becoming cool and dry once more. From that day on, he has wandered the world, giving aid with his mystical arts, wise philosophy, and strong sword arm. ~~~ Nymrael is a tall elf with long silvery-white hair. His eyes are a cold gray when angered, yet can shine with great warmth and compassion. He travel's light, prefering to light elvenmail, if any at all. Currently, he is garbed in a dark crimson tunic made of a soft, yet strong material, his cloak a deep rich brown, trimmed in gold with the sharp, yet flowing designs common to elven finery. His soft leather boots are better suited for comfort and ease of travel rather than the halls of nobles. For one who travels across the continent, he is rather well kept, his clothes all but devoid of dust and grime, his hair kept neat and clean. This is due in part to a minor magical enchantment which keeps his livery clean and fresh smelling. Although it doesnt do much else, he still enjoys the feel of undirtied clothing, especially on long voyages. ~~~ a bit of a background on my char |
| Maraxus07-11-05, 05:46 PM | I think I'm ready, too. Had to choose from 3 versions in the end. Took one without multiclassing, that I can imagine very good. Some "flavor" needs to be, too, right? Valmehir the simple-minded Valmehir grew up in the slums of Eltebartar* (Thay*). How an elfen child could come to this city is unknown. Even more strange was, that he survived his youth, racism against him, virtually no rights and always slower to grow up then the humans and members of other races around him. With the age of 20, about they slowly began to accept him, he war hard, tough and a good person to have on your side in a street fight. Even elves grow up fast in such cities. Through above average, not pure force was his strength, but his speed and determinedness. So he went to the pits to make some real money ... and got horribilly beaten up. But he trained very hard, picked up a bow, trained even more and finally got his first successes. When he had enough money, he moved west* on the search for other elves. He found them and through they were about everything he had hoped, Valmehir realized that he was not able to fit in their society. After a year he moved again, back to the big city: This time to waterdeep*. Enough slums, more then enough fighting and even more pits to fight for the amusement of those willing to pay, the live Valmehir was used to, that what he knew. (*: Please replace by apropiate Greyhawk Places and Directions: A large metropolis, in an evil kingdom without elves, the direction to the next area with high elven population and a large multicultural metropolis in the vinicity of this area. I never played Greyhawk. :)) So, thats the backround. Numbers go to Cracker in a minute. I would also compete in a 2vs.2, if there's an interest. It's harder to organize, however, definitly an experiment. |
| red-gregor07-11-05, 05:53 PM | torberk became a fighter at a younge age. his father was a well know fighter named torken the slayer. his mother died when he was born do to health and birth problems. he watched in horer at the age of 10 his father murdered in his sleep by a rogue of a suposide fellow friend. trained to become a darven fighter but wanted more he wanted revenge and power and strenght that similar of the orges. so he was banished from the darwf clan and his family name was ternished for ever. so he travels the land learning from his fows and takeing what treasures he finds he fights not for law or for honor he fights for revenge makeing his way to the rogue and the friend that killed his father and destroyed his future. |

I forgot what the starting gold is for 10th level...I dont have th DMG right next to me. Don't buy any item that is more then one half the starting.....if its "53%" then let me know what it is....I will have to decide. 3. Yes, I am some what of a DM. I just control the enviroment and you guys do the killing. Conversations between characters will not include me.......You role play that. 4. Arcane Character should be sent to me.....infact here is my email (oh, god) noodlefactory18@hotmail.com. This email will only be for characters not a thousand questions......I have a life. 5. Some stuff that can be made by the dmg rules for custom items are absolutely game-breaking and should always need the aproval of the dm. I am already getting a a headache....Sorry I kind of put this together on a bad night. Don't worry I still want to do it. 1. I don't think the complete books are a good idea...they bring to many pretige classes that will unbalance battles. A spellsword can make quick haste of any fighter. 2. I am tired of making these list. 3. 28 point buy still....standard living Greyhawk....Its what my group has been doing for a couple of years, I like it. 4. If you feel that your Rogue is up to taking on a Cleric, so be it.....Lets say I didnt warn you. Try to stick to the guidelines they are very simple. 5. No, Multiclassing, think about it....How many people I have to watch at the same time. I don't want 15 messages telling me I forgot the notice something blah blah blah. 6. Prestige classes are allowed but only stick to one. Example is I think the shadowdancer is very interesting, and would like to play one some day. NOTE: Despite the "cool" factor of pretige classes they're very limited and my make you a losing character. I would advise EVERYEONE to build a strong one class character. 7. Psions, are not everyones favorite and you have right not to battle them. I just spent money on the book and feel like I should use it....lol. Also this may or may not prove that psions have no right in D&D. Like I said this is place to really test characters...or maybe I didn't say that. 8. Don't give me a headache about this...I work a full scedule and do art on the side....what a living. I don't want to limit everyone, so its not fun for "you", BUT I don't want this to be more then I Bargained for. Thank you p.s. | Cracker07-11-05, 07:21 PM | Just the three core rule books and psionic handbook...if you want to try it. ecl is allowed but remember stick to the Rules.....All you have to do is make a character based on those four books..... I will only accept races found in the players handbook, and psionic handbook. Subraces (like drow, deep gnomes, deep dwarfs, etc. ) are allowed....just ask. |

I don't want 15 messages telling me I forgot the notice something blah blah blah. 6. Prestige classes are allowed but only stick to one. Example is I think the shadowdancer is very interesting, and would like to play one some day. NOTE: Despite the "cool" factor of pretige classes they're very limited and my make you a losing character. I would advise EVERYEONE to build a strong one class character. As you can see, he changed his ruling. And pretty much any class combination can be rationalized. I was thinking about making a Dragon Disciple to show people they aren't THAT bad, but I'd want Sorc 1/Fight 4 and that's not available under these rules. As for where Cracker went...maybe his headache got the better of him. |

Yes, very much so......Think about if your in a four party group and one person decides to be a fighter/rogue.....well number one, you need someone strong enough to take the hits and number two need some good enough to by pass traps and scout a head. The cold deserts, icy wastes and snow covered lands that seemed to stretch to infinity were the inhosibitable lands that the parents of Jarenheiat proudly called home. The couple lived in a small temple they had built to venerate Boccob. In the ever shifting arctic lands, they were one of the rare bastions of law. This fact alone made it worthy of attack by the embodiements of destruction themselves, the blood-thirsty followers of Erythnul. They had been living off the land for decades now and the loose tribe counted many generations since it began to wander. However, the sense of a power not only non-chaotic, but outright lawful in it's purest form gave cause for the Ravagers to find and destroy this menace to their society. In little less than a year, the deadly force found what they were looking for, and utterly sacked the small temple, but only found and killed one priest. The female, now nearly in labor, fled the ruins unseen and unknown, knowing the cold would claim her if she didn't find shelter fast enough. The only shelter she found was a cave she thought uninhabited, but as the birth began, she found she was not alone. She had fled to a cave that quickly connected to the underdark, and the only being near her now was a lone Githzerai psion, the rest of his party killed by Illithids. The Githzerai aided greatly in the delivery once he had calmed the mother, but once he took hold of the child he was shaken, sensing the same form of power he wielded in baby, knowing his capable and intelligent mind had a large potential. The Githzerai planeshifted back to Limbo, knowing his return to find the boy would be a very important visit. Even in his childhood he showed to be very smart, developing successful hunting methods and knowing the power of Wee Jas, who still granted prayers to his mother. However, he always wondered about his unknown father, the elusive man his mother never spoke more than few sad words of. To compensate for the lack of any other family, he imagined friends who accompany him on his hunting trips. Miraculously one day, he came to exist, albeit made out of ectoplasm instead of flesh and bone. The small being confused him at first, but it's usefulness prevented him from being afraid. He would only come for small intervals of time, but everytime he did he would have some new power that would help gather food or any other task that needed to be performed. Around this time when his powers were beginning to manifest, the Githzerai was watching. It was then that he came to the Material Plane again to meet him. Informing him of his powers, the Githzerai offered to take him to Limbo, a more adequate place for mastering his powers and focusing out of the chaos. Years went by as he went from a young teenager to a fully grown man in his mid-twenties, practicing every day to maintain his sanity and unleash more of his mind. His training would prove essential the day his master died from the assault of a slaad, and as he watched the chaotic creature tear apart the old Githzerai while he feebly tried to harm it, he was amazed by the adaptive power of the chaotic form. With the Slaad leaving for other, stronger prey, he took his master's name, Jarenheiat. Echoing his master's name one final time, he returned the Material Plane, his goal now to fight chaos and use it, fighting it when it killed his parents, using it to adapt so he could have killed the Slaad. Seeking the knowledge only experience can teach, Jarenheiat searches for the teacher to show him the path to both greater power and understanding of the true flaws and uses of Law and Chaos. |

Okay, I think that's only fair because GuardianAngel (maybe)) misunderstood something: That this will be a fast and bloody fight and lurking for the other to make the first move might be a bad idea. Probably that also means, that Devon did not approach me. And there are still some minor details, I would like to know. Well, I hope, it will get better during this fight. But I still think, that a messenger is a must-have for this kind of game. And last: Come on, get done, I want to act. ;) |
