| The Crimson Dawn04-27-08, 02:28 AM | I am trying to decide what I will play in an upcoming game. It is in Eberron and these are the characters in the party. 1. Shifter dragon shaman. She has the entangling breath feat for control and has a good ac and a TON of hp. She does crap damage though. 2. Raptorian Dragonfire adept. Good ac skills and provides consistant damage (it is low though). Also uses various types of breath to control the field. 3. A rogue/warblade. She uses power attack to make up for her future lack of SA dice since she will be going into scarlet corsair and this house lyrander prestige class. She does good damage and has a lot of skills. She lacks in ac and hit points so she can not stay in the thick of things for long. 4. a catfolk healer. He is amazing at his job and has a good defense. He also uses a scepter that blasts with fire for consistant but low damage. As you can see I have some good control in the party and I also have healing covered. Now many of you are going to say play an arcanist, druid, or cleric but right off the bat that is a no-no. I am not permitted to create a wizard, sorc, druid, cleric, ToB, or similar classes. I was thinking of a soulbow to provide consistant heavy damage or a totemist but I would like to hear what you all think so what are my best options and why. If it helps we are playing eye of the lich queen but do not tell me something that will ruin the story or give me an unfair advantage. |

What about a Bard? You could focus on being a more martial bard and use your spells for more tricky sorts of purposes. If you don't like that idea... what about... homebrew material? Is that allowed (I'm thinking no)? If it is, something like my Songblade or my Runelord would be a great addition to the team. I'm thinking you need some solid arcane might, but that you could also use a strong melee character. To that end you could try Duskblade, but it doesn't really have the spell selection to aid the party. If a Paladin/Sorcerer/Abjurant Champion build is allowed that could be the way to go, or the Battle Sorcerer from Unearthed Arcana can be very nice as well with the proper variants and feats. Ask me about that if you want to give it a try. |
| The Crimson Dawn04-27-08, 04:10 AM | Well I had a warblade but I was too good at making a good build that it was over the top compared to the adventure. So I offered to make a new character that will not be so nasty. That is why I am restraining myself from using the big caster classes. I would be too good for the rest of the party. I should avoid the bard as well just because the last time I played one I destroyed balance by giving morale bonuses that were just crazy. What I want I guess is a usefull character that will help plug the holes in this party but will not so completely dominate the group that my character causes a disruption like last time I played. I also like characters that are good survivors but that is just gravy. Just giving me concepts help too I can often make a character but I am unsure what holes need to be filled in this group for sure. |
| bkdubs12304-27-08, 04:12 AM | Well like I mentioned... a sort of 5th wheel support character can be nice, as well as having a solid melee guy, but you could also try a sort of utility belt character. Someone who's always got the tool for the job. Wizards are good at this, but you're restraining yourself. A Factotum or Beguiler might be worth a try. |
| The Crimson Dawn04-27-08, 04:59 AM | If I am a fifth wheel class or a beguiler will the group do enough damage in your average fight to win? I avoid bard as well because of making him too nasty. A factotum would be sweet but that is the one class I do not have on hand in a book so that is out unless that changes sometime soon. Thanks for the help so far it is aprecciated. |
| bkdubs12304-27-08, 05:04 AM | Well, one thing I thought of was a Duskblade with the Arcane Disciple feat so you could get a domain. Pick up say the Magic or Spell domain and you've got a solid damage dealing class with some utility spells now. |
| luap04-27-08, 11:24 PM | i would also say a duskblade is a good choice.im playing one in a group of 9 and though we have no hol;es to plug the flexibility of spells and melee or both does come in very handy at times |
