| PoisonApple03-09-05, 05:52 PM | I'm new to this and I'm about to start playing D&D soon. Could someone give me a link to where I can download or look at a list of all the character classes I can choose from when I start. I want to have an idea of what I will be. |

Could someone give me a link to where I can download or look at a list of all the character classes I can choose from when I start. I want to have an idea of what I will be. Go to the WoTC website under D&D and look for characters with class. It gives you a breakdown of each of the base classes in the players handbook and lists each of there strengths and weaknesses. Otherwise get a copy of the PHB 3.5 which details each class and gives you most of the other rules you might need to know to play. |
| Interceptor03-09-05, 07:31 PM | http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35 ...I believe this area here will give you the mechanics. Just go into classes. It's a good resource to have if you just want the "meat without any of the filler". But definately check out the "Characters with Class" Articles on the WotC D&D website for ideas and styles of the character classes. Mind you, I don't think they have covered all the classes yet, but the ones they have on there are extremely helpful. Hell, I've been playing this for 4-5 years, and learned how to play a decent Paladin! T'is good I'd say! |
| PoisonApple03-09-05, 09:46 PM | thanks I asked a friend (the one who I am going to start playing d&d with) if I could be a vampire and he said he wouldnt let me(when he is DM) because I would be too powerful too quickly. Would it be unfair to be one? |
| ArochanoX03-10-05, 02:43 AM | Most certainly. If you and your DM are both new players, take it easy for the first play times. Play strictly by the rules, so you learn the game correctly. |
| PoisonApple03-11-05, 09:57 AM | My to-be DM is someone he has been playing for years. He just told me yesterday that there might be a way to start off as something weaker than a vampire and later turn into one at a much higher level. |
| RogerWilco03-11-05, 11:36 AM | You sound like a friend of mine who played (to much) White Wolf games. All he wants to play is a vampire too. Please note vampire's aren't very cool in D&D. They are only meant as adversaries, to be killed by players. Remember this is a Lord of the Rings like world, not something like Blade or Underworld. You should ask yourself, do I want to play Legolas, Gimli, Pippin, Boromir, Faramir, Saruman, Eomer, Merry, etc. If you're new to the game start with a sorcerer, rogue, barbarian or cleric, but ask your DM if you can redesign your character (even change class) after for example 8 sessions, when you have discovered what newbie errors you made. By then you'll have discovered what you want to play (ninja or druid for example). This is a very usefull link too: http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/home.html |
| legowarrior03-11-05, 12:00 PM | I wouldn't go so far as to say that it is a clone to lord of the Rings. I would prefer the world of the Black Company, since its just darker and cooler. Don't be boxed in my other peoples lameness. |
| Nyferto03-11-05, 12:19 PM | www.geocities.com/sovelior/srd/ Vampires are a template that add a number of levels to your character, so you'd be level 7 and they'd still be level 1. However, because it's a template you can actually become one later on, but it might not fit the rest of the group, if you really want too, read up on them but I'd advise understanding the game before you do. |
| PoisonApple03-12-05, 12:53 AM | Well I now decided on being a rogue for my first character and from there turning my rogue into a shadow dancer. Maybe after I have played a while I will try a vampire. |
