I don't know if this has been brought up but I've been thinking about what character in movies(action mostly of course), best typify the character base classes.

I'll start the ball rolling with the PHB classes.

Bard- The Gu Zheng playing bad guys fron Kung Fu Hustle
Barbarian- Riggs (Lethal Weapon series)
Cleric-
Druid-
Fighter- Michelle Yeoh's Character in Crouching Tiger
Monk- Forgot the character's name but Ong Bak
Paladin- Orlando Bloom's in Kingdom of Heaven
Ranger- I admit it.... Legolas
Rogue- Captain Jack Sparrow (Also the personification of Chaotic Neutral)
Sorceror- The kids from The Covenant
Wizard- Gandalf/ Harry Dresden

If I were to start a thread in this vein it would likely be turned around: Name characters from movies and then what class they would be. It would be highly difficult to find any one character that could so represent a class. Oh, save one:

Ranger: Aragorn

Come now, Legolas? He's a scout, or a fighter to show for all of his feats. :D

How much magic does Gandalf actually use? I'd always thought him more as a sort of Monk/Paladin, myself.

I'll agree that Aragorn displayed the tracking etc of a melee oriented ranger, but Legolas, High dex ranger with all the archer feats. That being said they'd probably both have a few Fighter levels.

A few other favorites.

Swashbuckler- Zorro
Knight- Optimus Prime
And for all of those who say the Tome of Battle only applies to anime.........
Warblade- Achilles (Troy)

I've always looked at it as a wizard in a world where High Magic is for the most part lost would tone it down so as not to terrify the general populace.

I'd say the guys from the covenant are closer to Warlocks than Sorcerer's, they even use a type of Eldritch blast. I'd say the Kourgan(sp?) was a Warblade too, probably focused on Iron Heart and Stone Dragon.

Not exactly base classes, but not exactly not... Also, there are some TV show characters in there, but maybe y'all get over it...

-Snake Plissken(Escape from New York, Escape from LA) - Fighter(Thug Variant)

-Neville Flynn(Snakes on a Plane) - Ranger(Urban Variant)

-Cordell Walker(Walker Texas Ranger) - Monk(with some ranks in Handle Animal)

-Bosco "B.A." Baracus(The A Team) - Barbarian

-James Bond(the various James Bond movies) - Rogue

-Zap Rowsdower(The Final Sacrifice. If you never saw it, you're better off) - Warrior(NPC class from DMG)

-Michael J. Nelson(Mystery Science Theater 3000) - Commoner(NPC class from DMG)

-Joel Hodgson(Mystery Science Theater 3000) - Expert(NPC class from DMG)

-Cole Turner(Charmed) - Warlock(just trade off Fiendish resilience for an alternate form)
