| KillFrenzy04-10-07, 02:16 AM | ok im not sure if i want my character to be a fighter or barbarian id go with barbarian but my character is the kind of fighter who is a skilled fighter and a psycho not just some crazy idiot swinging an axe but fighters as said many times are lacking and most people arent any good at fixing that problem but they get all those bonus feats and i like having lots of feats heres the characters stats Human male chaotic good Str-17 Dex-16 Con-16 Int-8 Wis-10 Cha-14 so what would it have better potential with? |
| Mister_Sinister04-10-07, 02:31 AM | What books are you allowed? If possible, play a warblade or swordsage (but you might want to put your mental stats up a bit) from Tome of Battle. |
| periscope04-10-07, 02:33 AM | Go with Barb. Trumps fighter. If you have access to the ToB then go warblade. perfect psychopath. |
| KillFrenzy04-10-07, 03:11 AM | ok so go with barbarian? |
| periscope04-10-07, 03:22 AM | yep. |
| KillFrenzy04-10-07, 04:02 AM | but all those feats! maybe i should multiclass fighter and barbarian |
| PoorHobo04-10-07, 04:13 AM | Barbarian doesn't trump fighter. A fighter will find himself in more useful situations than a barb. The argument has been done to death. If all you want to do is swing a big melee weapon around and only want to say "i attack" then, pick up barbarian. You definately have the STR DEX and CON to be a good one. If you think a fighter better suits your character concept then choose fighter and the board can likely suggest useful feats that will help you out. if you do play a fighter swap you CHA and INT scores (if you can) |
| periscope04-10-07, 04:13 AM | naw. they both have high Hit die, the same good save, and the good BAB. your not gaining much and losing a lot. Feats mean nothing when you reach higher levels. less they be metamagic. |
| PoorHobo04-10-07, 04:22 AM | Feats mean nothing when you reach higher levels. less they be metamagic. Ahh so you are firmly in the "if its not magic it sucks" camp. Feats may not scale with level but they do give you options. Options that are usually viable at any level. |
| KillFrenzy04-10-07, 04:36 AM | well i downloaded the nineswords book and warblades look ****en great so what if i mixed fighter or barbarian with warblade? |
| PoorHobo04-10-07, 04:51 AM | Warblade gets bonus feats and access to "fighter only" feats. if you've got the Bo9S, just play a full warblade. Then buy the book. |
| KillFrenzy04-10-07, 08:17 AM | Warblade gets bonus feats and access to "fighter only" feats. if you've got the Bo9S, just play a full warblade. Then buy the book. sorry but im not yet familiar with all the d&d terms please explain what bo9s means |
| runestar04-10-07, 08:25 AM | Or just go barb1/fighterX. Best of both worlds. Take extra rage and you are set.:D |
| PoorHobo04-10-07, 09:10 AM | sorry but im not yet familiar with all the d&d terms please explain what bo9s means Bo9s = Book of 9 swords...the one you downloaded. |
| gullas04-10-07, 09:20 AM | take few levels in fighter , then when you have your first ability increase put it in wis and take a level in cleric , continue to level as a fighter until lvl12 then take a level in barbarian and aim for frenzied berserker:) |
| Cartigan04-10-07, 09:33 AM | sorry but im not yet familiar with all the d&d terms please explain what bo9s means Tome of Battle. God forbid anyone keeps with a standard name. |
| ContinuityLapse04-10-07, 09:55 AM | Warblade gets bonus feats and access to "fighter only" feats. if you've got the Bo9S, just play a full warblade. Then buy the book. You missed a step: convince your DM the Warblade isn't horribly overpowered and liable to break the game. |
| Aktariel04-10-07, 10:28 AM | Warblade is: a beast/a psychopath/potentially broken? I didn't think it was that good... though it seems slightly better than swordsage... Nice BAB and decent [or even slightly lacking] maneuvers It seems like if you can convince your DM to allow it, it's the way to go... Are there any good prestige classes for Warblades? [I don't have my books handy, sorry...] |
| KillFrenzy04-10-07, 10:53 AM | take few levels in fighter , then when you have your first ability increase put it in wis and take a level in cleric , continue to level as a fighter until lvl12 then take a level in barbarian and aim for frenzied berserker:) would the cleric level be for healing abilities? because i was actually making a character build that had 8 levels of fighter 1 level of barbarian and then continuing to level as a frenzied berserker i should post it some time |
| Shadowhowler04-10-07, 01:42 PM | If you DO go Warblade, you HAVE to do something about that 8 int. A lot of WarBlade abilities are Int related, you'd be gimping yourself severly. As your stats lay, I'd do a Barbarian for sure. |
| Evicmar04-10-07, 01:48 PM | I'd go with ranger/barbarian. Handle Animal is available to both and with your charisma applying to wild empathy you can start walking a herd of wolves around later on. Also both have good skills and they overlap quite a bit. If you go with the unearthed version of both classes you will have 2 favored enemies at 2nd level and +20 ft base movement. My 2 cents. |
| eggplantm04-10-07, 02:39 PM | The original question was Fighter or Barbarian. Let's try to keep on subject. It is really a matter of personal preference. Neither is "better". The barbarian class is simpler as the only choices are feats and weapons. They can do great damage and have some decent skill points so have fun. The fighter is a more complicated class as you have many choices and you could devote yourself to one idea of fighting or pursue several. Some people like the choices and see it as a challenge and if you are not intimidated by that, go for it. There are a lot of people on this board that think fighters are weak at mid-high levels and just as many that disagree. I'm one that disagrees. You can make a cool fighter and be having a lot of fun at level 20, it just might require some careful decisions to get the most out of your fighter. |
