level 1.

you would be a level 6 paladin, level 1 blackguard, and a level 7 character.

How do you meet the requirements at just 6th lv?

OK as a level 7 paladin

to become a blackguard i need a +6.. for my BAB..

so if i become a level 1 blackguard wouldn't my BAB become +1

then wads the point of meeting the requirements for the BAB

does the blackguard SAVES and BAB add on to the current paladin's status..?

wait... it is possible to become a blackguard at level 6

Requirements..
Alignment: Any evil.
Base Attack Bonus: +6.
Skills: Hide 5 ranks, Knowledge (religion) 2 ranks.
Feats: Cleave, Improved Sunder, Power Attack.

at level 6 a paladin will have a BAB of 6
at level 4, as a human it would be able to learn 3 feats
and with a INT modifer of +1 i should have... i think 44

You MUST meet the requirements BEFORE taking the class. Page 58 of the PHB has the first step in gaining a level as choose class. Therefor you would not have the +6 BAB until 6th as a paladin and would need to wait until 7th level to be a blackguard.

Also, BAB (and saves etc.) would stack from multiple classes. If you had a +6 as a paladin and gained a PRC that granted a +1 then the total is now +7.

Without a way of making Hide a class skill, Paladin 6 cannot meet the cross-class 5 ranks of Hide, as that would require a 7th level character. As the order of leveling goes, it's Class first, ensuring you must meet the prereqs before you level.

You may want to read the multiclass paragraph in the PHB

Man, I'm bored.

Alright, look. You're a 7th level paladin. You've met all the requirements for the prestige class (or PRC) known as Blackguard. You are a 7th level character with 21,000 xp. Your BAB is +7.

A few game sessions later, you reach 28,000 xp: enough to level up. Instead of picking up that 8th level of paladin, you turn evil and pick up your 1st level of blackguard.
You are now a 7th-level paladin/1st-level blackguard. You are an 8th-level character. Your BAB is +8 (the +7 from Paladin and +1 from Blackguard are added together).

When you multiclass, you don't stop being one class and start being another, you keep both classes. I mean, it's a little different in this particular case because you're going from good to evil and losing your paladin abilities in the process, but normally it's not that complicated.

the levelling stuff is not in the SRD.
No it isn't, because it is not included in the OGL content. Which is basically the way Wizards insures that you have to buy at least the Players Handbook, to play the game. Some people have produced books with different leveling methods(Monty Cook, Green Ronin, etc...), but then your not really playing D&D anymore.

Truthly I don't see how your playing without at least the PHB. It is really the first book you should buy.
