Disparaging Soldier An armsman that defeats his foes by demoralizing them with quick wit and banter. Similar to a fencer but with the focus placed on charisma/distraction instead of dexterity/nimbleness. HD: d10 Requirements: Alignment: Any BAB: +6 Skills: Bluff 3 ranks, Perform 3 ranks, Intimidate 5 ranks Feats: Weapon Proficiency (any), Armor Proficiency (any), One feat that raises charisma based skill(s) (such as negotiator or persuasive) Class Skills: Bluff(cha), Climb(str), Diplomacy(cha), Jump(str), Gather Information(cha), Handle Animal(cha), Intimidate(cha), Knowledge(two of choice, taken individually), Listen(wis), Perform(cha), Profession(wis), Ride(dex) Skill points at each level 2 + int modifier Level------BAB----------Saves-----------------Special 1---------+1------------+2+0+0----------Distract 1/day, Improved Intimidate, Goad 2--------+2------------+3+0+0----------Adept Fabricator 3--------+3------------+3+1+1----------Distract 2/day, Enhearten +1 4--------+4------------+4+1+1----------Persistence 5--------+5------------+4+1+1----------Distract 3/day, Enhearten +2 6--------+6/+1-------+5+2+2----------Flustering Strike 7--------+7/+2-------+5+2+2----------Denigrating Banter, Enhearten +10ft 8--------+8/+3-------+6+2+2----------Distract 4/day 9--------+9/+4-------+6+3+3----------Enhearten (aid another), Denigrating Banter (free action) 10------+10/+5------+7+3+3----------Distract 5/day,Denigrating Banter (no language restriction) Class Features: Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Disparaging Soldier's are proficient with all simple and martial weapons, with all types of armor (heavy, medium, and light), and with shields (except tower shields). Distract: You are adept at distracting your opponent. At firstlevel a Disparaging Soldier gains the bonus feat Improved feint. Additionally, following a successful feitn check, the Disparaging Soldier has the option to force his opponent into provoking an attack of opportunity. To do this, he allows his opponent to make a dexterity save (DC Disparaging Soldier's level + charisma). If the check is successful then the opponent regains his dexterity bonus to his AC. If it fails, he provokes an attack of opportunity in which he is considered flat footed. This ability may be used once per day at first level, gaining one use per day at each odd numbered level thereafter. So at level three it increases to two a day, then three a day at level five, and then so on. The DC may seem too easy here but you figure a level one Disparager is going to be a level 6 something or higher. Plus, you should have a relatively high cha score if you're in this class. So minimum difficulty here is likely around 10, which is fine. This feat will get stronger as the character grows (and magic items are added, I'm sure) Improved Intimidate: At 1st level and thereafeter, a Disparaging Soldier can intimidate targets one size category larger or smaller without penalty. Additionally, targets one size category larger do not gain a +4 bonus. However, a Disparaging Soldier retains his/her +4 bonus if they are one size category larger. All other rules apply normally except that instead of a +4 bonus for every size category larger, the bonus is reduced to +2. Adept Fabricator: You are exceptionally good at fibbing. At 2nd level, a Disparaging Soldier gains a +4 competence bonus to bluff and may add his/her charisma bonus to saving throws against spells and abilities that are designed to seek truth. Goad: At 1st level, a Disparaging soldier gains the feat Goad. Enhearten: You are so charismatic that your energy is contagious. At 3rd level, up to 3 times per day as a free action, all allies within a ten foot radius of you gain a +1 morale bonus to attacks, weapon damage rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saves for a duration of the number of rounds equal to the Disparaging Soldier's class level + 1/2 his or her charisma bonus (rounded down, min1). This bonus increases to +2 at 5th level with the effective radial area increasing to 20ft upon reaching 7th. A 9th level Disparaging Soldier may also use this bonus to aid another. If, at any time within the Enhearten effect, he makes a check to aid another, that person receiving the aid gains a +2 competence bonus which he can stack. The disparaging Soldier must be able to heard and/or be seen (partial vision is allowed) for their allies to gain these effects. Persistence: You have quick enough wit to conceal your mistakes and make additional attempts. Once per day, a Disparaging Soldier of 2nd level or higher may reroll any charisma based skill check, ability check, or save. The character must take the result of the roll, even if it is worse than the original roll. Flustering Strike: Fluster an opponent with a forceful hit. Upon threatening a critical, a Disparaging Soldier and his opponent make opposing charisma checks. If the opponent fails, he takes a -2 penalty to all attacks, weapon damage rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saves against that character. A failure of 10 or more results in the penalty of -4. While it is discouraging for him, it is encouraging for his combatant. A Disparaging Soldier who succeeds in his charisma check after a threatened critical is given a +2 bonus on all attacks, skill checks, and saves applying to that character. He also receives a dodge bonus against that character equal to +1 per every 5 points the check missed (min 1). This remains in effect until either the Disparaging Soldier is no longer within sight of the opponent, or until the opponent threatens and confirms a critical hit of his own, restoring his confidence. If the Disparaging Soldier confirms the above critical, the need to make charisma checks is negated and the effects are automatic. Denigrating Banter: This ability is a Standard Action, up to 3 + Charisma modifier times per day, and is available upon reaching 7th level. The Fencer & the opponent make opposed Charisma checks. If the opponent losses, he/she receives a penalty to his/her Base Attack Bonus of +2 & an additional +1 per 5 points by which the check missed. The penalty lasts Charisma modifier + 1 rounds (min 1). The ability can be used multiple times, but the penalties do not stack. Loss in BAB may result in loss of extra attacks, inability to use certain feats, etc. This ability is a Language-Dependant, Sonic, Mind-Affecting effect. Upon reaching 9th level, a Disparaging Soldier may use this ability as a free action instead of a standard. At 10th, a Disparaging Soldier no longer has to rely on language to get through to his opponent; the tone of his voice is enough. ** This feat is taken from the fencer variation fighter class in the Dungeon Magazine. Bybassing language is overdoing it here, I think. So, perhaps just adding an allowance to do so, with a -4 penalty to foreign language, would do the trick. |

(feat from Complete Adventurer), Ki Shout, and some other odds and ends from various splatbooks. A lot of the stuff I'd picked didn't use charisma, but I had planned on calling it a Rooster Warrior. You are welcome to the name if you want it. How are you going to get past the bad odds on feints? Remember the opponent's BAB is added to their sense motive to resist your feints. That's one reason I've never used feints. |
