LumpyTheDwarf came up with the idea of an anime inspired swordmaster that uses their supernatural skill to make ranged attacks and such. I liked the idea but wanted to put my own touch of flavor to it. Not to mention I like crisp clean formatting along with clear mechanics. If you want to see the class that inspired my building it check Here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=294052).

This class makes me think of Motoko from LoveHina :)

Enjoy!

Chi Blade [ChB]

Chi Blades are experts at manifesting their personal essence to complement their ability with a sword. They focus primarily on battle, and mental control. They benefit from high Strength, and Wisdom the most.

Hit Die: d10.
Requirements
To qualify to become a Chi Blade, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.
Base Attack Bonus: +5
Feats: Cleave, Iron Will, Power Attack, and Weapon Focus with Signature Weapon
Special: Must choose a specific slashing weapon to be her signature weapon. This signature weapon is the only item that he can use her class features with. The Signature weapon must be of masterwork quality (And may only have one such weapon.)
Class Skills
The Chi Blade’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Jump (Str), Listen (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), Spot (Wis), and Tumble (Dex).
Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.

Level BAB Fort Ref Will Special
1st +1 +2 +0 +0 Airblade (1/day, -2), Aircleave
2nd +2 +3 +0 +0 Chi Blast (1/day)
3rd +3 +3 +1 +1 Airblade (2/day)
4th +4 +4 +1 +1 Soulstrike (1/day)
5th +5 +4 +1 +1 Airblade (3/day, -1)
6th +6 +5 +2 +2 Chi Blast (2/day)
7th +7 +5 +2 +2 Airblade (4/day)
8th +8 +6 +2 +2 Soulstrike (2/day)
9th +9 +6 +3 +3 Airblade (5/day, 0)
10th +10 +7 +3 +3 Master Airblade (1/day)

Class Features
All of the following are Class Features of the Chi Blade prestige class.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Chi Blades gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor
Airblade (Su): At 1st level the Chi Blade learns how to strike her foes at a distance by using her chi to enhance his strikes. When using her signature weapon, as a full round action that provokes attacks of opportunity a Chi Blade may make melee attacks to anyone within a range of 5 feet per level of Chi Blade (Minimum of 10 ft). Unlike normal melee attacks you may only apply half your strength modifier to this attack instead of any normal strength bonus you may get to damage. Also all sources that add damage to your melee attacks (Such as power attack, spells or weapon enhancements) are halved. Bonuses to hit are unaffected.
These attacks can only be used to deal damage and cannot be used to attempt a disarm, sunder or trip attempt. Although you are making melee attack rolls, you do not gain the benefits of flanking, but at the same time you do not suffer the penalty for attacking someone in melee combat with a ranged weapon.
Every 2 levels after the first the Chi Blade gains another use of Airblade per day.
All Airblade attacks are made at 2 less Base Attack Bonus for all purposes (Which include, but are not limited to, calculating iterative attacks, to hit, and maximum amount one can power attack at)
At 5th level all Airblade strikes are at 1 less base attack bonus, and at 9th level the penalty disappears.
Airblade strikes are visually impressive. A large curved force that resembles a crescent originates in the signature weapon of the Chi Blade and it flies at its intended target.
Aircleave (Su): At 1st level when a Chi Blade uses her Airblade to qualify to make a cleave attempt, she may make a cleave attempt on a target within 5 feet of the target she dropped.
This effect happens when the crescent goes through some of the enemy or all of it. It may curve or even seem to “boomerang” after hitting, for the cleave attempt. Against a foe with blood it’s usually a gory sight.
Chi Blast (Ex): At 2nd level the Chi Blade learns how to manifest her chi to send a massive blast from her signature weapon to an opponent 5 ft away from her per level of Chi Blade (Minimum 10 ft). As a standard action that provokes an attack of opportunity she may make a bullrush attempt. If she succeeds in the attempt, she not only pushes her opponent back, but the opponent must make a reflex save (DC 10 + ˝ Chi Blade Level + Wis mod) or fall prone.
At 6th level the Chi Blade gains a second use per day of Chi Blast.
Soulstrike (Su): At 4th level the Chi Blade masters enough of her Chi to notice the Chi in others. As a full round action that provokes an attack of opportunity, a Chi Blade can perform a Soulstrike on anyone within 5 ft per level in Chi Blade. The Chi Blade makes a ranged touch attack against an enemy. If she hits it deals 1d6 damage per level in Chi Blade. The target then must make a Will save (DC 10 + ˝ Chi Blade Level + Wis mod) or be stunned for 1 round.
This ability may be used once per day starting at 4th level and two times per day when the Chi Blade reaches 8th level.
Anything without a charisma score or a charisma score of 1 or less is immune to Soulstrike.
Any creature slain by a Soulstrike may not be resurrected without a true resurrection or wish or miracle followed by a resurrection due to the damaging of the soul.
Master Airblade (Su): At 10th level the Chi Blade masters the art of Airblade strikes and thusly can execute a Master Airblade once per day. She may make a full round action that is identical to Airblade, but incurs none of the normal penalties to damage and does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

I like your version much better. I too prefer clean write ups. I'm seriously considering using/offering this PrC in my campaign.

Every 2 levels after the first the Chi Blade gains another use of Airblade per day.
All Airblade attacks are made at 2 less Base Attack Bonus for all purposes (Which include, but are not limited to, calculating iterative attacks, to hit, and maximum amount one can power attack at)

Suggested change:

When making an Airblade attack, a Chi Blade suffers a -2 penalty to all attacks made that round. The penalty lasts for 1 round so it also affects attacks of opportunity the Chi Blade might make before her next action. When a Chi Blade reaches 5th level, the penalty lessens to -1, and at 9th level dissappears.

Since Airblade requires a full round action to use, you aren't able to make additional attacks that round, unless through the use of Cleave, opportunist, etc, in which case you suffer the appropriate penalty. I just think this is cleaner and easier to deal with. I.e. no need to recalculate # of iterative attacks, max amount of Power Attack available, etc.

Q: Since you are making a melee attack, just at range, can a Chi Blade make a charging Airblade attack?

It's designed so that it takes a fullround action, (thus you can't move) but you may make an amount of attacks as your BAB would allow minus 2. This means it's a slightly slower progression to hit, slightly slower progression on when you get an extra attack, and caps the power a little lower.
It's a NEW mechanic as opposed to a simply applying penalties and 1 attack, then 2, then three. This makes it so if someone enters the class later, they aren't 10 times worse off at fighting than if they were in melee. It is designed as written. and not to impose penalties only to hit or allow you to ONLY make one attack. At 8 BAB you can make two attacks, one at +6 and one at +1 as a fullround action that provokes an attack of opportunity.
If you can play a monk with flurry of blows, i'm sure you can play a Chi Blade with Airblade. I'm sorry if I'm assuming the player can do minor math, but I designed this class to be balanced, crisp, clean, flavorful and fun, not to allow a monkey to play it. This is not an official released class, and thusly isn't expected to be played my your average idiot.

I feel that BAB is a simple enough mechanic to build a mechanic off of. Then again, I know every progression's formulas too

Q: Since you are making a melee attack, just at range, can a Chi Blade make a charging Airblade attack?

It's a fullround action that gives you your full attack option with the appropriate penalties and bonuses. I thought that:

These attacks can only be used to deal damage and cannot be used to attempt a disarm, sunder or trip attempt. Although you are making melee attack rolls, you do not gain the benefits of flanking, but at the same time you do not suffer the penalty for attacking someone in melee combat with a ranged weapon.

would clarify enough to show that special attack options cannot be made. Coupled with being a fullround action, it doesn't seem to fit that you could combine it with a charge. I thought it was explicit enough that charging is not a possible option. Am I really mistaken and that this needs to be clarified?
