| Tectorman07-12-07, 12:25 PM | All right, I'm going to try my hand at creating a class that would combine those two. What I'm thinking is: d8 HD Good Ref saves, Fort and Will poor (but with powerups like the Swashy's Grace ability 4 + Int skill points (19-20 class skills) Medium BAB all the proficiencies that Swordsages normally get half the Warlock's invocations (least and lesser invocations only, total of 6 by level 20, Wis instead of Cha is the key ability score) no more maneuvers (or maneuvers readied) than a Warblade would get I'm going to put up a fully organized version of this within the next few days, but I wanted to see what the initial reactions would be |
| LoneFlame07-13-07, 01:42 AM | Interesting concept. I'd like to see it written down. As it stands, there are 3 ways that could end up going(Broken, Weak, and the rarity, Balanced). I'm curious as to which one it'll be. Plus I do find the concept intriguing. |
| Tectorman07-15-07, 12:55 PM | Well, I'm very sorry to do this, but I almost immediately lost enthusiasm for this concept. Sure, I'll come back to it later, but it just wasn't what I was looking for. I'll probably put up another new class of the same name when I do. But anyway, I promised to show a fleshed out build so here we go. I have no clue how everyone is getting their class progressions into those neat little tables, so I'll put it in shorthand instead. BAB: Medium HD: d8 Skill points: 4 + Int Class Skills: Autohypnosis (Wis), Balance (Dex), Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Knowledge (arcana) (Int), Knowledge (local) (Int), Knowledge (nature) (Int), Listen (Wis), Martial Lore (Int), Move Silently (Dex), Profession (Int), Sense Motive (Wis), Swim (Str), Tumble (Dex), Use Magic Device (Cha) Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: all simple, all martial, light armor Good Ref saves gain new maneuvers known as follows: 4 at 1st level, one more known at each odd numbered level to a total of 13 at level 19 readies 3 maneuvers at 1st level, then 4 at 5th level, 5 at 10th, 6 at 15th, and 7 at 20th; maneuver recovery method same as swordsage gains 1 stance at 1st, 3rd, 6th, 10th, and 15th level initiator level is equal to class level gains new invocations (called chi spells) at 2nd, 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th levels; Wis, not Cha, is the key ability for these invocations; invoker level is equal to half class level Besides that, the additional class abilities I'd add are: Resilient Resolve: +1 competence bonus to Fortitude and Will saves at 1st level, increases to +2 at 10th and +3 at 19th Chi Blast (Sp): identical to Warlock's Eldritch Blast (except Wis is key ability score, not Cha); 1d6 at 2nd level, 2d6 at 8th, 3d6 at 14th, and 4d6 at 20th can learn chi spells (invocations) of least grade at 2nd level and of lesser grade at 12th level AC bonus: as Swordsage's (taking into account the fact that they meant to say "applies a bonus equal to their Wis modifier in light armor and no armor") Chi Series: (you know how no matter how high a Warlock's BAB goes, he can only do 1 blast or invocation per round; well, that's what this would fix); at 6th level, once per day, a chi warrior can use a chi blast as an attack equivalent action instead of a standard action; this means, they'd be able to do a full attack action with their chi blasts or even the hideous blow (and would work with TWF, too); the chi warrior would be able to charge and then hideous blow; they'd even be able to apply the hideous blow to any maneuver they were initiating, this would go up to 2/day at 13th level and 3/day at 20th I'd also like to add UD and IUD, but I don't know where; as well as an ability at 1st level equal to Weapon Aptitude, but only for the purpose of switching the benefits of certain feats (not the equivalent fighter level bit) Again, sorry for the shorthand, but my computer's not quite working right, so I couldn't make it nice and neat at home. If anyone wants to take this and make a table out of it, they're welcome to. |
| LoneFlame07-15-07, 01:56 PM | I hate to say it, but I pass on the table construction. On the forums, it's really tedious and annoying and I'm starting to really hate doing it(even though it's quite helpful to anyone who's looking at something). That is an interesting concept. It just might work decently. Now, I do wonder what UD and IUD are. If you get a chance to clarify that for me, it would most helpful. |
| Tectorman07-15-07, 02:30 PM | uncanny dodge and improved uncanny dodge See, this is why I think people shouldn't use abbreviations. Not everyone who goes on the Internet keeps up with what is short for what and whether CL means character level or caster level. |
| LoneFlame07-15-07, 02:49 PM | Too true. There in lies the problem the the internet. Excessive slang and jargon. Last time I checked we weren't in the military and I'm pretty sure most of us aren't stereotypical nerds either. |
