| ClarkKent0703-03-04, 05:57 PM | I don't know about the rest of you but I always have sooo much trouble choosing a class to play as. Sure I have millions of ideas for what I think would be fun or interesting classes to play but the problem is I simply am unable to really get into the character unless I feel some connection to them ....which is even more odd considering I DM most of the time... Anyway just wondering how some of you choose the class you are going to play and also if anyone knows of any good links to sites where you can take character tests.... Thnx CK |
| Shas'O03-03-04, 06:59 PM | I always find it easy to be the Cleric or fighter, Can NEVER have too many clerics, and fighters are the easiest calss to make IMO. |
| crazyhorse03-03-04, 07:25 PM | check out szatany's ultimate classes, dubbed ultimate cleric, ultimate fighter, etc etc i've found that they add so much more in terms of flavor and actual in-game custimization options...just go to the dnd boards and search for ultimate cleric, or ultimate fighter, etc. etc. he's got all of the classes remade, and like i said before, i'm a big fan. hope u like 'em too J |

Thnx CK I'm also commonly the DM, so I know how you feel. DMing is great, because you get to try out a little bit of everything against the PCs. But when it comes time for you to actually play, you've got a million and one ideas for a great character, and you really want a chance to get into that character. You can make up any NPC you want, with any class/race combination, and any attitude, but they will rarely be around as long as the PCs are, and since you're running everything else besides that NPC, you can't really devote as much energy into the character as a player can with their PC. I'm always divided when I'm finally a player. I enjoy the character I'm playing, but there's always something else I'd like to try. The good thing is, if my character bites the big one, I'm actually happy about it, because now I have the chance to try out one of my other ideas! |

| Stuntman03-04-04, 12:03 AM | I actually don't have too much trouble. I like having magical abilities, so I always end up playing an arcane caster of some sort. I also like having flexibility, so I tend to mix a fighter and arcane caster. My first ever character was a fighter/magic-user back in AD&D and I tend to always stick to that type of character. With 3E and 3.5, I go with fighter/sorcerer/spellsword. Also, when 3E came out, I became really interested in the rogue class. I got a chance to play a rogue that is geared towards scouting and negotiating. I never liked the theif back in AD&D, but the 3E rogue is no longer just a theif anymore. Probably the only other type of character I would be interested in playing is the mystic theurge. If I get the opportunity, I'd play a wizard 7/cleric 3/mystic theurge 10 in that order. I'm also looking forward to the new Psionics Handbook. I like psionics, but felt that the existing rules has some shortcomings. I did play a psion back in 2E. My character was similar to a psychic warrior of 3E. |

| Salla03-04-04, 07:28 AM | My usual technique is to wait to see what everybody else is playing, and pick something to fill a niche. |
| ClarkKent0703-04-04, 07:10 PM | Lord Gwydion I could not agree more, see it's not that I don't have any good ideas for a character the problem is I have far too many. The only way I feel comfortable narrowing it down is if I have a really strong sense of connection to a character idea.... Stuntman I also agree with you my first character I ever actually played was a sorcerer and I always prefer some magical ability...I also like to be charming and pursuasive so perhaps a bard... Usually I try to tie a part of myself into my character idea then I can relate to them better |
| crazyhorse03-04-04, 09:55 PM | bards are great....if you're gonna play a mega-roleplaying campaign. but if you play a little more kick down the door, all fights all the time, if it moves kill it....like what ended up happening to MY bard....lmao ur done for, just find a nice spot for a grave and save ur party the cost of having u res'ed after every encounter. AoE spells will deeessttttrroooooyyyy lol. best tactic: cast invisible and try to get around and put in one good hit that way, you know, you actually get one good hit in before dying lmao. b/c you COULD stand back and range it up, but that always tended to get me the ire of spellcasters, who have this inexplicable infatuation with 1) watching bards burn and 2) watching bards fry lol |
