| Clawhound12-04-07, 11:09 AM | I've been playing around with this system in my own games. It has been fun and has not been breaking anything. This system mostly derives from me saying to myself, "This would be useful." In general, I avoid numerical bonuses. The fighter already has lots of numerical bonuses. Beginning at 2nd level, a fighter gains chutzpah. He uses chutzpah to push beyond normal human boundaries. A fighter has 1 chutzpah at 3rd level, 2 at 5th level, 3 at 7th level, 4 at 11th level, 5 at 13th level, and 6 at 17th level. A fighter regains all chutzpah at the beginning of an encounter. As an immediate action, a fighter may use chutzpah to gain one of the following benefits: Automatically confirm a critical threat from your attack Increase your critical multiplier by one for one successful critical Gain an additional attack of opportunity. Maximize one damage roll Reroll one saving throw Reroll one attack roll Add 1/2 your character level to one damage roll. Gain an additional move action. Gain an additional attack. (Costs 2 chutzpah) Gain an additional full action. (Costs 3 chutzpah) |

So you have 1 total at lvl 2, 3 total at lvl 5, 6 at lvl 9 etc. I can't say if it would be too powerful or not since you can only take 1 immediate action per turn and it's in place of swift action. But why do you have to use some weird name like chupaz or whatever... |
| Killy12-04-07, 07:38 PM | Cause every time you spend a chutzpah point to use any of the inmediate actions, you must yell: CHUTZPAH! and then roll the die. |
| vorpo12-04-07, 07:50 PM | I think yelling kawabanga might be better... |
| Eldritch_Lord12-04-07, 07:55 PM | @vorpo: It's not that weird of a name; it's an actual word derived from the Hebrew word for audacity. More about it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chutzpah). @Clawhound: I like it. I have a few suggestions for a general version, though you might want to try them in your games. 1) Since pretty much everyone believes fighter is a 2-level dip class, I'd suggest giving the first point at 3rd level, with the second and further points granted as you have it here. 2) It's a bit unclear on the numbering; I'm pretty sure you meant the progression to be Level Chutzpah 2 1 5 2 9 3 12 4 17 5 ...but because you said he gains that much at those levels, like vorpo said it looks like he gets Level Chutzpah 2 1 5 3 9 6 12 10 17 15 I'd change it to "He gains 1 chutzpah at 2nd [or 3rd] level. This amount increases to 2 chutzpah at 5th level, 3 at 9th level, 4 at 13th level, and 5 at 17th level." 3) I'd let a point of chutzpah double the benefit of numerical feats like Dodge or Combat Expertise, as the fighter's main ability is feats and they don't scale well. If you don't want numerical bonuses, you could increase the number of Dodge targets for a round, lessen Combat Expertise penalties, etc. 4) The additional actions don't need use limits, I don't think. I don't know if you have Tome of Battle, but they already have abilities to add multiple actions to a single round, and they can do these multiple times per day. Instead, I would limit uses by level, so the higher-level fighters are on a par with martial adepts but the lower-level ones can't get them too soon. All in all an interesting system; I might adapt this to give this a trial run in my next campaign. |
| Killy12-04-07, 07:57 PM | You don't want H*sbr* ppl suing you right? Chutzpah it is, deal with it. By the way, this fix is so awesomely chutzpah that it's even funny. |
| Clawhound12-04-07, 10:45 PM | Thanks for the wording tweaks and the suggestions. The scale should be 1-2-3-4-5. In play, I generally found that there were enough good things in this system to keep decisions interesting. It can use more tweaking, and more things that it can do. |
