Is there a class ability replacement feature to give barbarians and rangers trapfinding, such as in UA for some of their other abilities ?

Did I imagine this . . . I thought I saw talk about this on these boards ??

Anyone know what class abilities are replaced and what book its from ??

Dungeonscape has what you are looking for. Rangers can pick up trapfinding and Barbarians get a way to smash traps. I forget offhand what they give up.

Rangers give up Track for TrapfindingTrack is a very useful feat for a Ranger . . . plus I am not sure I see the flavor of a Ranger finding traps in a dungeon.

It would be great if trapfinding were a feat. As it is, a ranger may just need to take this substitution and then select track as one of his bonus feats.

bonus feats. Do you mean the regular feats you get every 3 levels ??

Is the Trapfinding replacement ability the Ranger can get the same as a Rogue's, meaning usable anywhere, not restricted to natural terrain or something??

well there is an iteresting UA variant for rage, instead of +4 to con, you gain +2 dodge bonus on AC, you gain evasion (whilst raging) eventually, you gain buffs to reflex whilst raging, you gain an extra attack (all attack take a -2 for that round) it grows as a regular barbarian does, and over all its' pretty good, maybe even better then a regular rage

Yes, even then it's imo quite good when the party doesn't have a trapfinder already.

Well my thinking goes like this . . .

Trapfinding = class ability
Track = feat

Class ability > feat (usually and according to popular board opinion)

Trapfinding = Track with restrictions ?? (such as usable only in natural terrain)

OR is the opinion that trading in Track (a feat w/o prereqs) for Trapfinding is equal ??

Not always. Some class abilities are way worse than the feats (see familiar as feature vs Obtain familiar feat). It's just what your concept for a character is. I expect rangers to be as skilled trappers as they are trackers, if anything. It could be solved with a scout dip, but I see no reasons why scouts should be that better at it than rangers are.

Bottom line: it could make a decent feat. It's quite different from track though, so I'd rather it were not related.

Not always. Some class abilities are way worse than the feats (see familiar as feature vs Obtain familiar feat).I was always under teh impression that the Familiar class feature was better than the Obtain Familiar feat which can only be taken at 3rd level +.

However, I understand your point.

BTW is the Ranger replacement ability of trapfinding for track not restricted to natural terrain ??
