I'm currently joining a game with five individuals, their characters are such

A CG canonized human (i.e. saint template from BoED) Barbarian 10/Champion of Gwynharwyf 10

A LG canonized human Paladin 20

A LN quarter-dragon/quarter-celestial/half-human Samurai 11/Master Samurai 4

A CN half-orc Barbarian 10/Eye of Gruumsh 10/Berserker 2

A CN half-wild elf/half-fey Sorcerer 1/Ranger 10/Arcane Archer 9 (archer emphasis)

The game is obviously epic and leaning strongly towards good (no evil aloud). Its also low magic, and close combat hack & slash based.

What would be a good character class to add to this group that wont copy anyone, wont lean on magic, and most importantly will actually aid the group and not be just a tag along.

I know this question belongs on another topic but I can't remember which one. Any help please would be great. I tried fighter but it doesn't seem to be able to bring anything to the group that it doesn't already have. And by a character class combo that won't tag along I measure it as one which can last a few rounds in combat with anyone of the current team member (oddly thats how they rate each other, by who can whip whose behind and how fast). I had a human saint with levels in fighter/wizard/eldritch knight/spellsword, but it was too magic focused for the party. They even played with a wizard/archmage but he didn't last long (they kicked him out for outstaging them with spells). Any advice?

Also while it seems like allot of heads, they never actually adventure together at once, its usually two or three at a time.

i got an idea, try a fighter 10/ exotic weapon master 10 or maybe a barbarian 10/ exotic weapon master 10 those could keep up with the party on a non magic butt kicking style. you could try a paladin or ranger or fighter or barbarian 10/ Order of the Bow Initiate(OBI) 10, that way you get to use archer way in close and get hecka bonuses for it too, its a good class plus you get to increase your range, you can beat out the other archer in range, and so thus he has to run to get to you and you can run and get away and and hit him or run in close, get within 30ft and wail on him with extra damage for your OBI levels how ever you dont get the +5 arrows bonus.

i hope this helps some.

Wait, so; you're running a low magic EPIC game, in the D&D system, that's nearly a contradiction in terms.

And second, they measure how good they are by how fast they beat eachother, but then kick the guy out who can beat all of them fastest? From your post they sound like a bunch of jerks, kicking out characters just for being flashy and constantly comparing character fighting abilities.

Anyway, I recommend a full frenzied berserker, brought through an epic progression.

Or, depending on how exactly this 'low magic' works, occult slayer could be good, if the DM likes to throw out magic baddies but not let the players have any.

If you want to fill a different role in the party, try a rogue build. I'm at work, so I don't have my books in front of me, and I'm not much of an optimizer anyway, but I'm sure some folks on these boards could help you fill in some PrC's and interesting race/template options, possibly to work up your sneak attack ability or something. Anyway, it seems like it would be different from what everybody else is doing.
