I have a character that I want an insane amount of ranks in blacksmith, and that can create and use his own weapons. What I need is a way that he will have weapon proficiencies for anything he makes, without having to level up and/or use points. He will be creating my ideas & sometimes exotic weapons from the books (like Masters of the Wild). He'll probably be a ranger (mainly for the skill points), though it doesn't quite fit in since he's a prince.

In short, I need a way to have a character be able to be proficient in all/most of what he creates, w/o using skill points.

You're asking a heck of a lot.

A 1st-level character has a maximum of 4 ranks in Craft, an extra 3 for the Skill Focus feat. A +7 bonus to your Intelligence modifier is pretty much the limit ... at 1st-level.
... without having to level up ... I need a way to have a character be able to be proficient in all/most of what he creates, w/o using skill points.
What you seem to be saying is that you want a character who can consistently make anything and automatically know how to use it. Is that right?

It sounds like a terrible idea to have a character able to skillfully use anything he can create without actually needing to increase in level.

This needs to be a specialised class with specialised abilities. In other words a Prestige Class. I can't see any other way of doing it fairly.

I would suggest swappng this around to 'He can make anything in which he is proficient.'

My recommendation would be for the class to have Craft skill ranks (probably fairly high) as a Requirement, Simple and Martial Weapon Proficiencies, and maybe Light and Medium Armour Proficiencies. You could even have a Special Requirement that the character needs to be Royal to receive the training necessary for the class, since I could see that only someone with an almost unlimited budget could afford to practise making everything.

The PrC would gain a bonus that would increase with the class level to make anything in which he is proficient. You might not have it, but in the Sword and Fist book, there is a PrC called Exotic Weapon Master. You could adapt that into this new PrC. Just lower the Base Attack Bonus, change the saves, (I don't see Fortitude as the primary save) and lower the Hit Dice.

Give it a try. Remember though, you can't get something for nothing. Post it here once you're done, you'll probably get some helpful comments to make the PrC even better.

I hope this helped.
