Class Features & Level Loss [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-13-06, 06:47 AM It was my understanding that Level Loss causes one to lose any class features associated with the level lost (along with everything else associated with that level, of course. It was also my understanding that losing all ones levels in a class to Level Loss causes one to lose all the class features of that class.

However, when I started this thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=9144876), everyone who replied assumed otherwise. And then complained at me when that assumption made the class unbalanced.

Two questions:

Is my understanding of Level Loss correct?
Any advice for making the class description clearer on this point?

05-13-06, 06:56 AM Level loss makes you lose everything that level gave.
Negative levels don't.

05-13-06, 07:03 AM Say you are hit by the spell energy drain and gain 4 negative lvs. These negative lvs only cause the penalties as described in the spell desc, they do not result in the loss of any class features outside of those mentioned.

Usually, the spell will require you to make a fort save 24 hours later or permanently lose a lv. This lv loss will result in the loss of class features.

"I don't know what to pick yet because I don't know what's coming. I'll pick my level when I find out."

That is a sensible reason for disliking the class. One which none of the actual replies to that thread mentioned.
