Okay, I'm hoping somebody could point me in the right direction for a class that meets my needs.

Main concept is that I am designing a very low magic sort of setting. In the game there are two types of spellcasters - Clerics of the Maker (divine magic) and sorcerer-like spellcasters who have magic do to ancient magical bloodlines that have long been in their lineages.

The main thing about spellcasting is that it I would like to restrict it to spell-like abilities rather than spells. Though I have no problem, and even would like, both classes to gain other special qualities in addition to their spell-like abilities.

In addition in the game I am trying to run I want only spells of levels 0-5 to be available and I want this to be a 10 level class.

Any help would be appreciated in either providing ideas for such classes or information on where I can find already-made classes that fit my general requirements.

Thanks for the help.

I posted a question like this in the D20 Modern boards but I figure that by posting it here as well I can get much more aid in what I am trying to find. As regular D&D has much greater sources of information than Modern does.:)

..and similar abilities. Besides the bard, I'm thinking of the

-Cloaked Dancer (Complete Scoundrel)
-Dirgesinger (Libris Mortis)
-Jester (Dragon Magazine Compendium)
-Mountebank (Dragon Magazine Compendium)
-Righteous Zealot (Dragonlance CS)
-Seeker Of The Song (Complete Arcane)
-Stormsinger (Frostburn)
-Sublime Chord (Complete Arcane)
-Virtuoso (Complete Adventurer)

There are certainly others. The above, as well as the marshal from the miniatures handbook, seem balanced interestingly.

The jester, mountebank, bard and virtuoso might be especially cool because their magic is less "in-your-face" than a fireball-slinging sorcerer's; in a low-magic setting, it might be cool to live in the kind of tense apprehension that results from uncertainty, like "a witch lives on that thar hill.." etc.

I'm not exactly sure what you're going for; besides being toned down do you want magic to be different and more unobtrusive or just rarer? Because if it's the former, you could do all manner of cool stuff like make astrologers and geomancers, etc., who have to do more setup or more restricted effects.

When you say that you want stuff to be spell-like abilities, do you mean usable at will or just always spontaneous and fixed-menu? Because you could convert just about any spontaneous caster into what it sounds to me like you want by chopping off ten levels and making the spells into spell-like abilities.

I've never looked into them, but I know that there are some pretty extensive low-magic third-party campaign settings; Iron Heroes comes to mind (montecook.com).

Other stuff that gets spell-like or supernatural abilities and obsesses over them:

-Druids with respect to wild shape
-Some of the rogue PrCs from Dragon Magazine #310
-Cryokineticist (Frostburn)
-Entropomancer (Complete Divine)
-Initiate Of The Sevenfold Veil (Complete Arcane)
-Master Of Many Forms (Complete Adventurer)
-Master Of Shrouds (Complete Divine WE)
-Mindbender (Complete Arcane)
-Mountebank (Complete Scoundrel)
-Oozemaster (Masters Of The Wild)
-Primeval (Frostburn)
-Psibond Agent (Complete Scoundrel)
-Pyrokineticist (XPH)
-Rimefire Witch (Frostburn)
-Shapeshifter (Oriental Adventures)
-Shifter (Masters Of The Wild)
-Stonelord (Complete Warrior)
-Void Disciple (Complete Divine)

Probably the most obvious thing to do, though, is to emulate, rebalance and shorten the warlock.

I appreciate the suggesstions, I really do, they will be a big help once I actually go through them. I'm planning on doing that now, so thanks.

As to you question, magic is just rarer and generally limited to 0 up to 5th levels spells.

The Clerics of the Maker are a highly honored religious group in my society and such of them (actually a lot of them though not anywhere near the majority or even half) have access to divine magic due to their intense faith in their god.

The other group, sorcerer-like in concept, are much rarer but a little bit more powerful. It is they who uses arcane and taps into some hidden ancestry of power.

I'm not entirely sure whether I mean spontaneous or spell-like at will. I know that I want a small spell list with not many spells.

For the divine characters I really want it to be seen as a Gift from the God and not themselves doing it. So I probably want it to manifest slightly different for them.

For the sorcerer-like analogs I just don't know but me wanting a small list of spells is still maintained.

I looked at the Warlock and I like the concept behind the invocations. I also look at the classes and magic in Tome of Battle. I think I might find something that I like.

And like I said at the beginning, now I have to go through your list of classes and check them out. So thanks for that, they will help me to find the cllass that best fits my needs.
