| shadow mage06-21-04, 02:59 PM | I have two classes I'm curious about making, both inspired first by something I saw in Warcraft III and both ideas kinda took off with me, but I'm having trouble balancing them. IDEA 1: Spellbreaker Pretty much a fighter-type class, minus bonus feets, with anti magic stuff. High base attack bonus, 2+int for skills and a very simple skill list (similar to fighter plus a couple extras), high saves fortitude and will, HD d8. Armor proficiencies I'm curious about, I'm thinking light and medium armor and shields. Weapon proficiencies I have no idea what to choose, but for lack of anything else right now, all simple and martial weapons. Now for abilities. Mind you this is only a rough sketch. 1 Spell Save +2 (+2 bonus to saves against spells and spell-like effects) and Detect Magic (used like paladins detect evil) 2 3 4 5 6 dispel magic 1/day 7 Spell Save +4 8 9 10 Spell Resistance 5 + character level 11 dispel magic 2/day 12 anti-magic field 1/day 13 14 15 16 dispel magic 3/day (possible up it to greater dispelling?) 17 antimagic field 2/day 18 19 20 Somewhere along the line I want him to have basically spell immunity, something he can drop or raise at will as a free action once per round. I also need more abilities, something so that I can avoid making it too fighterish by throwing in bonus feats. Anyway, yeah, rough idea I'm trying to polish up. And he needs something spunky at level 20.:D IDEA 2: Dark Ranger d8 for hit dice, medium base attack bonus, ranger-ish skills with probably skill points nearing 6 + in (or maybe 4 + int), high saves will be reflex and will. Armor proficiencies would be light armor, maybe medium armor, and weapon proficiencies would probably be something like the rangers. Those of you who know the dark ranger well, I personally love the hero and this class is based off of her. Abilities are interesting. The three primary abilities the hero gets are silence (yeah, just like the spell, just variable duration), black arrow (a little bonus damage, and if a "black arrow" kills the target a little undead thing rises from it, it gets more powerful as the dark ranger does), and finally a life drain thing, where you stand still and suck X amount of life from a living target for however many seconds (or rounds in D&D terms). The level six ability is charm, which essentially steals an enemy unit, but I don't quite know how to put that one into dungeons and dragons terms. I'm thinking to toss in a couple ranger-like abilities, this being a dark ranger and all. SOOOO, anybody care to help? |
| Blakk_Magemaster06-22-04, 12:46 AM | hi there. It's you-know-who. kinda lonely here isn't it? |
| Sphyre06-22-04, 01:54 AM | I saw a pretty well made Spell Breaker Prestige class in the prestige class forums a few weeks ago, you can either adopt that or look there for ideas. Also, it looks like with how you're building your character you might want to have some kinds of class features that still work in an antimagic field. |
| shadow mage06-22-04, 01:57 AM | Hm...more dark ranger ideas, this time in ability layout. Please remember this is still based off the warcraft Dark Ranger. 1 wild empathy (as ranger) 2 3 drain life, trackless step 4 *black arrow (+1d4 bonus damage, critter turns into troglodyte zombie if slain by this ability) 5 bonus feat 6 silence (caster level equal to own, 1/day) 7 woodland stride (as ranger) 8 9 10 *black arrow (+2d4 bonus damage, critter turns into ogre zombie if slain by this ability), bonus feat 11 12 13 14 camouflage (as ranger) 15 bonus feat 16 *black arrow (+3d4 bonus damage, critter turns into umber hulk zombie if slain by this ability) 17 18 19 20 Drain Life: close range (25+5ft/level), probably a spell like ability requiring a ranged touch attack, will drain life equal to 1d8/3 levels of dark ranger. Only affects living targets (constructs and undead are immune) and hurrah, that's a good start. Black Arrow: explained a little up top, undead spawned by this ability are completely under the control of the dark ranger and cannot be turned/rebuked. They last for 1 round per level of dark ranger who created them and follow all orders to the best of their abilities. This usable a number of times per day equal to 3 + dark ranger's (insert ability) modifier. Bonus Feats: Archery related feats, dodge, mobility, spring attack, track, and for the hell of it combat reflexes. Now it has a little more umph to make up for the five free feets rangers normally get. Spells: As a ranger, minus the ability to cast summon nature's ally spells. And yes my friend, it is awfully lonely with people looking and not commenting. Neeeeeeed input people, want to know whatcha think. I'll have to look at that spell breaker guy too, thanks for the heads up. EDIT: Okay, I've updated this a little more. Whatcha think wizardofthecoastians? |
| shadow mage06-24-04, 03:10 PM | Wow, I can see I'm to expect loads of help here. I'm surprised Blain Tog of all people hasn't come in to bust down my ideas, we butt heads well. Thorak, anybody? Grrr. lol |
| Blakk_Magemaster06-29-04, 06:55 PM | a lost cause |
| Tevandel Surefacet06-29-04, 07:10 PM | Neither of these scream "core class" to me. It looks like what you really want is prestige classes. |
