I need some help.

I have a wizard level 10, He decided to pick up a prestige class of Arcane Trickster.

That class gives him a +1 caster level;

I know the +1 caster level states When the arcane trickster picks up a new level he gains new spells per day as if he went up a level in the previous spellcasting class. He does not however gain any other benifit from what the class would have gained - except for the increased effective level of spellcasting.

The question is - Does that give him the ability to gain spells of a new level?
The 11th level wizard picks up 6th level spells, but he is actually only 10th level.

I think the addition of the 6th level spells is a class feature.
I think the +1 spellcasting level effects the spells known - as example he would cast a fireball as an 11th level caster instead of 10th level, and I think he can cast more of the already known spells, but because he is not an actual 11th level wizard he should not gain the 6th level spells.

Am I wrong?

It is exactly like leveing up wizad, you gain more spells per day, more spell known, more everything related to spellcasting thus you won't increase familiear or get bonus feats... but you gain spells as normal...

Thanks; But Does "but you gain spells normally" mean that you need to level up the wizard to 11th level or that the +1 spellcasting level gives them to you?

You must be tired or maybe I am - the legibility was hard to understand - lol

Well I am kinda tired, homework does that to people lols any way, say I am a 7th level wizard 3rd rogues to arcane trickster.

I have the spell casting of a 17th level wizard, bonus feats and familear as only a 7th level wizard though cause the arcane trickster levels dont stack with wizard levels for determining familear or bonus feats.

Does that help?

Class, can we say, "Illiterate"?

If I didn't already know what Linkrulesx10 was trying to say, I would think he was spouting utter nonsense. Let me see if I can help...

When you level up in a prestige class that grants +1 caster level or +1 spells per day, this includes:

•Spells Known (if applicable)
•Maximum Spell Level Known
•Effective Caster Level for all spell effects
•Spells per day

It does not include:

•Familiar Benefits
•Wizard's bonus feats
•Saves
•Skills
•Anything specifically referring to your previous class' level

In short, it will enhance anything specifically related to spellcasting, but no other little class-specific goodies.

Just to make sure you aren't misunderstanding something else... you do realize that a straight Wizard 10 does not qualify for Arcane Trickster, right? You need +2d6 sneak attack to qualify, which typically means at least 3 levels of rogue (Though there are other means of obtaining it. You could take one level of rogue and one level of assassin, or you could be playing a Dark One from the Fiend Folio, which gets +2d6 sneak attack as a racial ability.)

Yea; I was a little lazy and just didn't write the whole character info out. I was just looking for the info on the +1 caster level. And just using the wizard portion seemed the easiest way to find out.

The wizard in question is actually 5th level rouge, 10th level wizard, and now 1st level arcane trickster.

But thanks for the reply.
