Class selection for OotBI or Highland Stalker [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-27-06, 04:59 PM I am seeking help for a future Order of the Bow Initiate or a Highland Stalker.
I am trying to accomplish the role of main ranged combatant.
I am making a Catfolk, and Catfolks favored class is ranger.

But before i can take the PrC, i need to decide what class first.
I am seeing that i go pure i can go ranger, fighter, or scout.
And if i cross class i can go ranger/fighter, or ranger/scout.
I do not NEED to take the Prestige Class initiate as soon as possible, so if i go scout it wouldnt hurt too much.

Please leave input on what you think is the best choice for the class(es) before i go into the prestige class.

09-27-06, 05:18 PM Scout works really well for OotBI, as both classes are limited to a standard action attack if using their abilities

09-27-06, 10:17 PM Well just want to point out some genarally accepted facts:

Pure scout w/greater manyshot feat (expanded psionic handbook) is better than scout and order of the bow initiative mix.

Races with level adjustment are not as good as races without level adjustment.

That is all. Just needed to point out that you're handicapping yourself, and wanted to check if you knew that.

09-27-06, 10:25 PM i realize that LA can REALLY kill you once you are in higher levels, but that is why i use the table to buy off LA from Unearted Arcana, i pay 3000 xp once, and bye-bye LA.
I suggest EVERYONE and ANYONE who has LA to check out UA and buy off their LA.

I suggest EVERYONE and ANYONE who has LA to check out UA and buy off their LA.
fair enough, didn't know you were using that variant. Consider scout with greater manyshot rather than OotBI. You can deal skirmish damage on each arrow you manyshot that way. You can't do this with OoTBI.

09-27-06, 10:33 PM ahh, thanks, so i plan on taking manyshot and improved manyshot, and NOT rapid shot, so theres really no point in ranger now.

and i am also considering that woodland sniper (i dont think that s the right name but something along those lines) from masters of the wild as a PrC
anyone have any input or suggestions about class selection for that PrC?
