Im currently starting off in a group with a rogue and a wizard, and don't know what class to choose , im fairly new and I know that group lacks a lot of things but, we should be fine :surrender .

I was thinking about going for a fighter, magic intrests me but at the time I thought "I really wan't to hack things to bits" and I still like the thought of bashing peoples heads in.

now I'm not so sure, paladin is intriguing but im not sure he'd get full use of his mount in the campaign the DM has in mind, and I'm not sure what class will round out the party nicely.

I've been seeing a lot of threads about how the fighter sucks, about how he does nothing out of combat and falls behind later on.

The divine fascinates me as well.

Just looking for a good choice/template to round out the group and have good fun with.

With a rogue and a wizard, you are missing two of the iconic roles: that of the tank and the healer. This might not matter, depending on what the game ends up being. If its a sneaky, theives guilde type game, the tank might not be so important. I might reccommend you have the rogue take some levels in barbairan or fighter to take up the tanking role, and you go with a divine spellcaster to fulfill the healing. A druid, with the spontaneous healing feat from Complete Divine (if you have that book) might do the trick though, as the animal companion can somehwat subsitute for a front line fighter in later levels.

In any respect, play what you enjoy!

A paladin would help round the group out, since it gives you a frontliner with some divine abilities. A Cleric with the War Domain and decent physical stats would do the same, just less combat, more casting. Neither are /that/ easy to play, though.

If the DM is going to make allowances for lack of an iconic role - that is, you need a warrior and a healer at the moment, if the DM is going to adjust things to match missing one of those (by adding an NPC for instance), you're free to choose. The warrior role is usually easier to get started with than the divine caster, and the barbarian is probably the easiest such class to run.

two roles, 1 character

paladin , barbarian, and cleric all seem good

barbarian I would only be fufilling 1 role, but hacking things to bits just seems like good fun to me and being a big bad wrecking machine seems just "fun"

paladin, how well would they fit the healing role, I know they can do some divine magic but the real thing that appeals to me is there mindset and "lawfulness" are there any good ways to get around not having a good enviornment for the horse without making my paladin a lot worse off

as for the cleric

the divine and support role seem nice to me roleplaying a cleric is something I could see myself doing

 im really quite confused in the whole mess, and now that I think about it I probly would screw up a fighter completely seeing as I probably wouldn't have a reasonable selection of feats , and the more I look at it the more I think things are biased toward spell casters

barbarian I would only be fufilling 1 role, but hacking things to bits just seems like good fun to me and being a big bad wrecking machine seems just "fun"That'd be a very good choice, as long as the 'healer' role is also going to be filled or compensated for somehow.

paladin, how well would they fit the healing role,Not bad, once you're out of the lowest levels. Cure Light Wounds is on thier list, so they can use a Wand of CLW for between-combat healing. For in-combat, they can use Lay on Hands. Obviously not nearly as good as a cleric, but probably adequate.

are there any good ways to get around not having a good enviornment for the horse without making my paladin a lot worse offWell, one easy one is to play a small Paladin, like a halfling or gnome, and use a riding dog. They can go just about anywhere the humans and such in your party can.

the divine and support role seem nice to me roleplaying a cleric is something I could see myself doingPlaying a prepped spellcaster can be a real pain, so I hesitate to reccomend it. If you do try a caster, definitely try it from 1st level on up, so that you can grow with it - trying to step into even a mid-level game with a caster you haven't played before can be really hard to do effectively.

Okay so you have a rogue and a wizard to start this with.

I would first of all not duplicate roles, so the way I see it you have several choices:
Druid: You can wildshape and morph into a tank, and still cast with a feat (Wild Spell I think). You could take spontaneous healer and be able to swap for cure (minimum 6th level)
Favored Soul/Cleric, very good saves and the ability to heal along with other fun stuff if you have the Compendium or PHB II.
Fighter: With good feat selection you can become a powerhouse. If you have a high DEX, go for weapon finnese and duelist (DMG).
Swashbuckler: With this you can serve as a party "face" if the rogue is not filling that role. Problem is you need good INT and DEX, CON would help as well.

Personally in your situation I'd pick Swashbuckler (if avalible) if not then I'd take Druid.

hmm, great advice and I thank you for it, never thought to go for swashbuckler, at any rate these all look like good choices to round out the group, now I must look at it from a roleplaying perspective , I wanna have fun! Never really thought about swashbuckler, but paladin and cleric appeal to me as I see them as the manifestation of divine judgement, the bringer of right for thier diety.

Although a barbarian from the outer wastes of a long forgotten world who dosn't really fit in society seems like a joy to play. I guess I will have to look into what the DM has in mind for a campaign setting before looking at it from this perspective.

Thanks to your wonderful advice though, it seems that no matter what the choice my choice greatly rounds out the party , but we will have to make adjustments or , try like hell to get through what we got to do!

It sounds like a joke... A rogue a wizard and a ... walk into a bar. ;)
If there are only going to be 3 of you then I suggest a cleric. You can tank on the front lines, deal with undead and blast away with spells. If fighting's more your style then a Paladin is a good choice. You could also try a multi-classed Fighter/Barbarian/Ranger-Cleric if you wanted to avoid the paladin limitations. Hope it goes well.

Paladin is probably a really good way to go. If you have PHB2 then you could take the alternate class feature that let's you trade your mount for the ability to do incredible amounts of damage when you smite evil on a charge. Good luck.
