| SephDragoon01-10-07, 06:08 PM | Ok, I had an idea for a character. It is based off of our party's weapons master, who uses dual scimitars (as light weapons) that crit on a 13-20 (not bad if I do say so myself. Now... the question is for a version of this guy who has Sneak Attacks (with telling blow *evil grin*). The problem is the loss of BAB. I can't find a decent sneak attack class that has good BAB. The best I have found is from the Arcana Unearthed (I hate that book btw) which has horrible sneak attack progression. |
| tiluvias9901-10-07, 06:33 PM | Use the variant fighter that gains sneak attack instead of bonus feats. Or Rokugan Ninja. |
| Gnarl01-10-07, 06:33 PM | Blackguard perhaps? |
| SephDragoon01-10-07, 06:33 PM | I have heard of the variant fighter... but where do I find it? |
| Xylem01-10-07, 06:35 PM | Did you mean Arcana Unearthed or Unearthed Arcana? (Unfortunately, both titles exist.) If you meant the latter, you should already have this (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#fighter), which is simply a fighter that exchanges bonus feats for a rogue's progression of sneak attack, which is as good as it gets for sneak attack. (Unless, of course, the on-line version is different than the printed version.) |
| SageBahamut01-10-07, 06:35 PM | Unearthed Arcana, I believe. Not Monty Cook's Arcana Unearthed, the actual D&D one. |
| Iceraven01-10-07, 06:36 PM | Its in the SRD which is taken from Unearthed Arcana. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#fighter edit: Nm its seems a couple others were quicker on hitting the reply submit button than I. |
| SephDragoon01-10-07, 06:38 PM | Blackguard perhaps? Non-evil character, and it gets poor Sneak Attack progression. |
| SephDragoon01-10-07, 06:41 PM | Hm... thanks. I never saw that in the Unerathed Arcana before. Is it only online, or is it in the book as well? Nvm, I found it in the book. Wow, I can't beleive I let that illude me >_<. |
| The_Shaman01-10-07, 06:45 PM | Hmm, blackguard gets a medium progression. Now, dark hunter or streetfighter: there's a poor SA progression :). Anyway, only UA fighter and Rokugan CS ninja get full SA and full BAB, and the invisible blade PrC has 3 SA dice over 5 levels, but that's pretty much it afaik. Nightsong Enforcer (CV), Scarlet Corsair (stormwrack) and Ronin (CW) come close, though, with 4d6 over 10 levels (I'm not so sure about the SC though), and so does Peerless archer if you don't mind sneak-attacking with a bow. |
| Ventifax01-12-07, 06:54 PM | And of course, Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed (renamed Arcana Evolved after Unearthed Arcana came out) has the Unfettered: fighter/rogue type class, good BAB, 4+INT skills, & sneak attacks (but a little slower to progress than a Rogue as I recall). |
| paladin201901-12-07, 07:03 PM | who uses dual scimitars (as light weapons) that crit on a 13-20 Nobody noticed this? WTF? Is the character large? Or is the off-hand scimitar treated as light due to the Oversized Two-Wepon Fighting feat? And how does the threat range expand to better than 15-20. No threat range modifiers stack in 3.5, unlike 3E where most of them did. Weapon master Ki Critical was specifically addressed in updates; errated to no stacking with other threat range modifiers. |

How can you get dual-scimi's to crit on 13-20? Or even a single on 13-20? I haven't been able to track down any combination of feats / weapon effects that would permit this. -- Gecks |
| The_Shaman01-12-07, 08:02 PM | Imo that's only possible, but involves 3.0 material... hm, either having keen and improved critical stack (in which case it would be 12-20), with the Disciple of Dispater PrC, or perhaps with weapon master and having its keen blades (or whatever) effect stack with keen and improved critical. |
| SephDragoon01-13-07, 12:12 AM | Improved crit and weapons master. (hey, until it is updated to 3.5 it is still valid in my book) And dervish for treating scimitar as light. Improved crit increases the range from 18-20 to 15-20, then weapons master adds +2 to the range, so 13-20. |
| GhostStepper01-13-07, 12:40 AM | Improved crit and weapons master. (hey, until it is updated to 3.5 it is still valid in my book) From what ive heard the Kensai the updated/revamped Weapons Master in 3.5. |
| Seerow01-13-07, 12:47 AM | There's also the Psionic Weapon Master which gives +2 to the threat range and is fully 3.5 |
| periscope01-13-07, 12:47 AM | If your willing to burn a couple feats, you can get a couple d6 of SA from the ToB supplement. Look at the shadowhand school, the feat that allows you to use a maneuver, and then the one that gives you a stance. I know there is a stance that grants 2d6 SA. Now there is an enhancement from the CAdv sup that gives you a bonus 2d6 SA if you already possess the ability to SA. Thats 4d6 points of SA for each weapon if enhanced. There is also the secutor base class that gets 5d6 SA floating on the boards somewhere. |
| GhostStepper01-13-07, 01:22 AM | To sum things up and add a little as well: Rokugan Ninja, Assassin's Stance, Deadly Precision daggers and the original version of the Invisible Blade (http://www.wakinglands.com/htm_files/prestige_classes_invisible_blade.htm) FTW. Full BAB and 14d6 sneak attack per hit by 20th level. If your willing to take a slight hit to your BAB you can pump it up even further by dipping a few levels in something else that has sneak attack. |
| Marcus Majarra01-13-07, 03:10 AM | Here's a good solution, drawing off the Complete Scoundrel: Swashbuckler. Just take the Daring Outlaw feat, and you'll see your Swashbuckler levels stacking with Rogue levels for sneak attack progression, among other things. |
| The_Shaman01-13-07, 07:19 AM | Hmm, it seems the book would be a worthwhile reading. I like high-skill characters. |
