JMD999 04-09-05, 11:05 AM	there is the feat obtain familiar, which is in Complete Arcane. prerequisite: knowledge(arcana) 4 ranks, arcane caster level 3rd i shall now summarize the description.... you can summon a familiar as a sorcereor/ wizard, takes 24 hours and material worth 100gp. for determining familiar abilities, all arcane caster levels stack hope this is what you need.

Lexarius 04-09-05, 11:34 AM	Familiars are directly related to magic. The best you could hope for would be: Be a Warlock and take Obtain Familiar. Warlock isn't technically a spellcaster. But I doubt that is what you meant. Acquire a spell-like ability with an arcane caster level of 3 or more and take Obtain Familiar. All spell-like abilities are arcane unless otherwise noted. Take the Beastmaster PrC from Complete Adventurer. This gives you animal companions like a druid.

Amonas 04-10-05, 10:56 AM	At 3rd level a shadow dancer can summon a shadow(undead shade) that serves as a companion that can comminucate intelligibly with the shadow dancer. Its on page 195 of the DMG. You do not need to be any type of caster to qualify for the class. The prereq's are: Hide 10, Move Silently 10, Perform (Dance) 5, combat reflexes, dodge, and mobility. -A

Debbin 04-10-05, 01:25 PM	there isnt one, unless someone made a homebrew PrC. all the classes that can summon "Familiars" are magic users of one sort or another, and the feats that allow classes to summon familiars require magic user type abilties.
Lusiphur 04-10-05, 01:41 PM	the key term here is not familiar What you need to be looking at is the summon aspect of the ability. Im not going to pull out a dictionary, but in D&D summoning is directly related to magic. In most aywhere you look, summoning is going to be a magical ability to call something. Unfortunately you are not going to get a familiar without levels in arcane spellcaster. There is no way around it, and anyone who creates one is sorely mistreating the idea of a familiar. My assumption,since you said you needed it for a PrC, is that the PrC itself is a magically aligned class. Most of these classes will add "+1 to level of existing spellcaster." If the PrC you are looking at has this feature, take a level of sorcerer or wizard, THEN enter the PrC. 1st level Sorc/Wiz get Summon Familiar class feature, PLUS you will then have an arcane spellcaster class to supplement with the "+1's" i talked about above. Or you could add them to bard levels or something, since i really know nothing about your character...
lexabear 04-10-05, 06:08 PM	In FR, the Celebrant of Sharess prestige class gives you a familiar. I forget its prereqs, and I believe it also gives you a modicum of divine casting, so it might not be exactly what you're looking for.
