Classes that can change type [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-06-04, 06:16 PM In my D&D session this week we were having a long discussion about if a class has the ability to change thier character type though an class feature do they get all the benifits and drawbacks from it, For Example

Is a Druid or Bear Warrior subject to animal growth, charm animal or any other spell that effects animals when they are in animal form?

Would a druid in plant or water elemental form take more damage from Horrid Wilting?

The biggest problem would be does a Blighter get all the benifits of being undead? immune to mind effecting spells etc, but in this case is he also subject to turning ( and possible destruction) and rebuking effects and damage from cure spells?

anyone have a solution to this?

09-06-04, 06:22 PM IIRC, druids do indeed gain the type and subtypes of the creatures they become, so yes on all points.

09-06-04, 07:21 PM The Wild Shape ability does not allow a druid to gain the new form's type; read carefully the paragraph regarding elemental form and the polymorph spell, which the ability mostly duplicates.

This is true in 3.0 edition. 3.5 edition, which I believe the original poster was referencing, changed much of the ability. Now, it directly duplicates the polymorph spell.

From PHB, page 263, header polymorph, first paragraph, last sentence:
The subject's creature type and subtype (if any) change to match the new form (see the Monster Manual for more information).

09-07-04, 01:54 AM I re-read the section on wild shape the exception to the rule is only when the druid is in elemental wildshape, part of my original problem was if a cleric uses a turn atempt do they destroy the Blighter when he is in Undead Wild Shape since he is a Undead Animal?
