Classes that grant ability scores [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-25-06, 11:30 AM I screwed the pooch on a character build. I was building a fighter, which I normally don't play, and put most of my points into STR and CON, not relizing that several of the feats I wanted to take require a 15 DEX. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get 3 points quicker than 12 levels. I was thinking of taking 3 levels of Human Paragon, which whould give me one feat and +2 to one ability.

Does anyone know of classes that increase the character's DEX? I could do an alternate build if I bump up my INT or WIS, so any classes that improve those scores would be helpful, too.

That's what I get for playing a Fighter.

Oh, and magic items probably will not be available to raise the scores. I'm really just looking for classes here.

Thanks to anyone who has any ideas.

Edit - Oh, I see. You already saw that. That's about the best you're going to get - I can't really see any class giving you more than a +2 to any ability score.

I'm assuming the feat you're after is Two-Weapon Fighting. If you're seriously out the Dexterity and can't rebuild your character, I would skip the feat and try for a different weaponry style.

07-25-06, 12:31 PM If you want TWF, you could use Ranger instead of Fighter, but I'm sure you're aware of that, and you're probably looking for more esoteric feats.

Aside from the Paragon, you're out of luck. Classes that increase ability scores are few and far between.

Dragon Disciple and War Hulk, actually, though the DD is generally more cost-inefficient than simply taking the LA +3 template, and the War Hulk has no BAB progression (that's right, not poor, but none). However in both cases, we're talking mostly Strength, not Dexterity.

I only want TWF because it's prereq to Spinning Halberd. That's what I really want. Oh, and there are a couple of other feats I'd like to take that have a 15 Dex prereq. I can get there without losing TOO much, but you can bet I'll look at feat prereqs the next time I'm making a character.

07-25-06, 01:47 PM Willing Deformity/Gaunt will have you trade two points of Con for the same amount in Dex plus some boni to Intimidate and stuff.

You'll need to be evil, though - possibly even vile.

07-25-06, 02:03 PM If you're a human, you could always get yourself killed and then reincarnated as an elf, halfling, or catfolk, gaining their racial benefits, but keeping the bonus feat and skill points you already gained as a human. If you're high enough level, or have enough gold to afford a scroll, polymorph any object can work too.

I agree. It works. Even better buy a Ioun Stone of Dex (cost more, but itis slotless).

Ask DM if you can exchange a point in str or con for Dex (they seem equal to me). Than buy a +2 gloves of Dex. You can make up the Str loss by buying a Gauntlet of Ogre Strength or something.

07-25-06, 09:22 PM If you're not too far into the game and used point buy you may be able to convince your DM to allow you to reasign your points. The Rebuild segment of the PHB2 works around that idea but keeps the flavor "in game."

Although I don't approve of this method it is part of the standard rules that ability enhancing items will allow you to qualify for feats.
