Alright, so far there's the Duelist for rapiers, the Lasher for whips, Master of Chains for spiked chain, Arcane Archer for longbow, Songblade for longsword, and probably a few I forgot.

All these prestige classes are dedicated to the use of a single weapon or small group of weapons. I feel that a few weapons have gone prestige classless for too long: the quarterstaff and the dagger. Both of these weapons have real life fighting styles that would be pretty effective against the stereotypical greatsword weilding guy in full plate.

Well, there's plenty of smart gamers around this place so let's get to work! Here's what I've been thinking so far.

Staff Master
requirements: BAB: 5+
Feats: Improved Trip, Weapon focus (quarter staff), two-weapon fighting

HD: d8
BAB: full (as fighter)
Saves: Fortitude and Reflex
Skills: 2 + int
Class Skills: (most of the monk class skills)

Some abilites this PrC should probably have:
- Reach attack: can make a single reach attack each round with staff (no 10ft threat)
-Deflect Arrows
-Deflection Bonus to AC 1-3
-Improvised Staff: can treat just about any pole as a quarterstaff
-Improved Counter Attack: can use TWF on AoO to make 2 attacks

Knife Fighter
requirments: BAB: 5+
Feats: Weapon Focus (dagger, punching dagger or Kukri), Fighting Finess, Dodge

HD: d8
BAB: full (as fighter)
Skills: 4 + int
Class Skills: (similar to the duelist)

some abilities this prestige class should probably have:
-Precise Strike: +d4 then 2d4 for knives
-Dodge bonus to AC
-some kind of grappling with knives bonus
-Accurate throw: doubles a daggers range. stacks with far shot

Let's make these PrC a comilation of the best efforts of the users of these forums. Screw those "please review my class" posts. Let's work together to make something really good and usable players everywhere.

Invisible Blade focuses on daggers.
Yours has some similar abilities: it has sneak attack and it lets you add intelligence to your AC up to class level.
It doesn't do anything for throwing though, and its big thing is letting the invisible blade get better at feinting, up to being able to do it as a free action by fifth level. (It is only a five-level PrC.)

I'd had heard of the invisable blade before but I've never seen what it can do. Alright then, forget the knife fighter. Let's get some input on ideas for specifics on the Staff Master. Maybe even a better name?

Called the Mukei (http://www.geocities.com/winspir/prestige/p_mukei.htm), it pretty much makes the character specialized in just one weapon, to the point that it's the only weapon they can use. It's an awesome prestige class. It'd probably need updating to 3.5 rules though.

Adept of the Twirling Staff

The elderly man, a peasent by all accounts, walked quickly through the dark streets, his quarter staff clicking in time with his steps heading, with all speed, towards the inn where he was staying the night. Yet to the trained eye, this old man was no mere commoner, he walked with sure and deliberate steps, his gait easy and smooth.

"Ehhh there old timer..." came a slow, drawling voice from behind the man, his knowing strides stopped, his head turning slightly to the direction of the voice, "got some change to spare a fellow citizen a bit down on 'is luck?" a spinning piece of silver was the only answer he got, which was snatched from the air.

"Don't be to generous now!!" came a second from from the opposite direction of the first, sarcasim dripping from it, "how bout a few silvers for me and the rest o' the lads!" with that several men garbed in simple clothing emerged, each brandishing long wickedly curved blades.

The white hairded man grinned his trademark grin and tossed aside his humble cloak, his own garb loose fitting and fashioned from a foreign material so as to not inhibit his movements. The stick that once served merely as his walking cane twirled slowly in his hands, his stance suddenly becoming wider and lower as he brought his weapon to rest in a defensive position, gripped in his right hand and craddled behind his back. Clearly these men had not the trained eyes that would have allowed them to distinguish this man of humble appearances as an Adept of the Twirling Staff, clearly these men would have emence headaches when the awoke...if they awoke at all.

The Adepts are a small secular group of individuals dedicated to the mastery of the worlds most widely used, and most widely under estimated wepons: The Quarter Staff. The Barbarians from the north wield great swords and axes, able to rend a man in two, the swift warriors armed with the scimitar, the noble samurai with his katana, an Adept can defeat any of them, and when his skill is great enough, all of them at the same time. An Adept is trained exclusivly with the quarter staff, yet he is also a man of wisdom, a man of deep thinking and philosophy. Such is his strength, any crazed savage can cut down hordes of enemies with a halberd, yet how can he defend against a simple commoner with a stick? The savage would charge forward brandishing his pole axe, yet the commoner waits, allowing the fool to come within his Circle of Danger. Suddenly the comoner's puny cane darts out and explodes the savages knee cap, he leaps up, spinning as he goes, his quarter staff connecting with bone shattering force against his enemies skull, the battle is won.

The Adept is patient, knowing, the battle is played out in his mind before it begins. A general knows his enemies strengths, their weaknesses, yet the wise man knows their defeat.

Requirements
To qualify to become an Adepts of the Twirling Staff, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.
Skills: Balance 5 ranks, Sense Motive 5 ranks, Jump 5 ranks
Feats: Two-Weapon Fighting, Improved Trip, Weapon Focus (Quarter Staff), Combat Reflexes

Class Skills
The Adept of the Twirling Staff's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Balance (Dex), Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Diplomacy (Cha), Jump (Str), Knowledge (...not sure...), Move Silently (Dex), Tumble (Dex)

Long Strike: An Adept becomes so proficient in his art that he can use an ordinary quarter staff as a reach weapon of 10'. Cannot be used if the quarter staff is being wielded as a double-weapon.

AC Bonus: When wearing no armor and wielding a quarterstaff in both weapons, an Adept gains a +1 Shield AC Bonus, and an additional +1 every two levels (1, 3, 5, 7 and so on) The AC Bonus cannot be used in a round when an Adept is using his quarter staff as a reach weapon or a double weapon.

Soft Touch: an Adept may choose to inflict non-lethal damage with his quarter staff without incuring the normal penality

Patient Mind: At level 2 an Adept adds his wisdom score to his AC, when wielding a Quarter Staff in both hands.

Intuitive Style: at third level, for the purpose of Combat Reflexes an Adept treats his Dex as if it were 2 points higher, and again at level 6 it increases to +4, and +6 and level 9, when wielding a quarter staff in both hands.

Crippling Strike (Ex): at level 4 an Adept wielding a quarter staff does 1d8 bludgeoning damage, it increases to 1d10 at level 6, 1d12 at 8, 2d8 at 10.

ok, I'm thinking that my staff master class is coming along nicely, I've also posted it in the prestige class boards. :D

ou might want to put in a part about the wisdom score to his AC not stacking wiht a monks. if it did that would probably make the class pretty over powered.
and adding something in about being abotu to take this PrC and go back in to monk would be nice also.

and if your going to have the skill Move Silently you also need to put in hide aswell they are a pair.

other then those things i like it very much keep up to good work

You guys realize that kensai essentially do this already. You bond with a weapon, and then you can imbue it with a bunch of sick abilities.

Of the the fact that you are totally correct, why would they put the Invisible Blade in the same?

WotC...tsk tsk tsk...

What's being looked for are PrCs that allow you to use your weapons in ways that are unique to your weapon. Kensai gives you a few abilities that work using ki[, but nothing special that has to do with the type of weapon being used.

Wow that's some nice work so far, though it is going a slightly different direction than I had originally envisioned.

Originally, I wasn't looking to make a PrC geared towards monks but rather one that could be reached by easily and be effective for a fighter type class aswell. But really, it doesn't matter.

I was thinig earlier about some kind of level 10 death move kind of like the Lasher's Circle of Death (I think that's what it was called)

I've got it narrowed down to 2 but any other ideas would be cool too.

Tempest- As a full round action, you whirl your staff at a fantastic speed kicking up dirt, grass, rocks, dust, sand etc. All within a (20 or 30) foot radius must pass a fortitude with a DC of 15 + your wisdom modifier or suffer a -2 to attack rolls and AC for 1 minute. If this save is failed by 5 or more then the opponent is instead blinded for 2d4 rounds and suffers -2 to attack rolls and AC for 1 minute after that. Creatures who do not have eyes or do not rely on vision to see are uneffected by Tempest.

(maybe put a limit on number of times per day)

Ultimate Flurry- Once per day when making a full attack you may gain additional attacks with your quarter staff. You must declare that you are using this technique before rolling to hit. When used, you gain extra attacks with a bonus equal to your normal full attack rolls. For example: Master Bamboo is a level 20 character with 10 levels in Monk and 10 levels in Adept of the Twirling Staff. When he makes a normal full attack with his staff he gets 6 attacks at +17/14/11/8/5/2 BAB. If he uses Ulitmate Flurry he would gain 6 additional attacks at +17/14/11/8/5/2 BAB. The use of other abilites that increase the number attacks you can make in a round do not stack with Ultimate Flurry. So if Master Bamboo uses Flurry of Blows, Two-weapon Fighting, and Improved Two-weapon Fighting, he would make 15 attacks when using Ultimate Flurry with +15/15/15/15/12/12/12/9/9/6/6/3/3/0/0 BAB.

Any thoughts on Tempest or Ultimate Flurry? How about some other level 10 moves?
Kynn Elfson

04-28-05, 12:38 AM
see, I was going to give him Flurry, but my thoughts are the same as yours, I want this class to be achievable to any fighting class, some can get to it easier than others tho. I decided against flurry, due to mostly flavour.

Also, I like your Tempest idea...hmmm....but I'm not sure if it would be able to have a place in my class idea, again for flavours sake. Perhaps as a feat, that would be a cool choice for a monk/AotTS if they decided to go that way.

I was going to put Hide as an pre-req, but once again, it doesnt fit with the flavour.

AotTS levels do not stack with monk levels.

Kensai uses quasi-magic powers to enhance his special weapon, an AotTS isn't attached to a single weapon, or using quasi-magic power, he uses his skill with his staff.

Well, Ultimate Flurry can be used by anyone with 10 levels in this class (that is if we use it). So a Fighter/AotTS could stilluse it.

i was talking about you should put hide in the skills list if your going to have Move Silently. its just that they come as a pair, you dont need to have it as a pre-rqe to get in to the class just should put it in the list of skills the class has.

i still thing that there needs to be something in there about "Patient Mind: At level 2 an Adept adds his wisdom score to his AC, when wielding a Quarter Staff in both hands." not being able to stack wiht the monks wis to AC. other wise that means that if some one was a monk and a AotTS he is adding his wis to AC 2 times.

I once helped with a build for the Spinning Staff PrC (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=353040) with Tealgorthian. The PrC is rather incomplete, but it does have some interesting features. It's similar to the Twirling Staff written up above, but I think a little better balanced and less susceptable to level dipping - notably that the use of Staff as a reach weapon isn't attained with a single level.

Tealgorthian and I disagreed on a couple of minor points. I've used it the way I wrote, but it was only taken to level 3 (campaign ended).

Okay, thanks for clarifying the whole hide buisness, and I must have forgot to put it in there, but AotTS does not stack with monk levels.

hmm good point with the level dipping.......but in my campaigns, level-dipping is not allowed so I didnt quite consider that......any suggestions on how it should be improved?

Not especially... to be honest Spinning Staff wasn't really my project, it was Tealgorthians, and it's a long time since I considered it and the features for balance. I haven't really sat down and picked yours to pieces for issues, but level dipping for the reach weapon ability would be an issue in campaigns run RAW for PrC advancement.

Aww, Cuh'mon (Made-up spelling, I know...)! I wanna see a non-rogue focused dagger prc! (Note: I do not have CW, so if it's not rogue-specific, forgive me. But Osiris' Idea on the Dagger prc was just so cool sounding (I loooovvvve Katars and Kukris!!))

Don't forget the Sword and Fist Weapon Master, AKA the Kensai circa 3.0 OA, since changed to what we see in CW. Focuses on one weapon and gets some very nice abilities. Good for inspiration at the very least.
