hey, i'm currently working on a character who at 9th is rogue3/factotum5/beguiler1 (very high int, high dex, moderate to decent other stats), and i'm looking for a class or so that would be worth taking just one level of (a splash) (either in addition to or instead of the beguiler splash). the goal isn't optimisation (the character will rely more on interesting effects rather than powerful ones), though i'm not against splashing something with powerful qualities.

[in terms of type of class, some sort of spellcaster variation would be nice, especially if it's instead of the beguiler level - in general, this character is going to be a fan of low-level spell effects]

Tome of Battle classes dip really well, because you add half your other classes to your initiator level. In particular, Swordsage would fit really well into any trickstery/skillful/stealthy rogue/beguiler type. It would give you a host of cool once per encounter abilities, like one that would make an enemy flanked for your turn (so sneak attacks on all your attacks).

i did think of swordsage (good suggestion btw), but my current character is a monk/swordsage, so i was hoping to go in a different direction next campaign

after looking up some ideas - how do people generally feel about splashing a level or 2 of binder (tome of magic)? (naberius, ronove, and leraje look good for utility) (keep in mind i would take it several levels before 9th)

a one level dip in hexblade would give you a curse ability.

Well, I'm not too sure about spellcasting dips, and it might be a bit of an odd choice at this late in the game, but if you don't already have weapon finesse then a level of swashbuckler would give you some passable physical benefits without costing ya too much in terms of lost skill points from a non-skillmonkey class.

Mindbender is a good choice if you take the practiced spellcaster feat. you'll get telepathy and can qualify for the mindsight feat from Lords of Madness.

a one level dip in hexblade would give you a curse ability.

But the DC is based on your class level, so it would be basically useless. Hexblade is good, though, for a two to four level dip (only four if you use the PHBII alternate feature).

Mettle. Good for what ails you.
