| Azezel03-06-07, 05:44 PM | Cleric/Cleric is not - so far as I know a legal option. If you found it in a book - then the book will tell you the rules - if it is not in a book, then ask your GM what rules he would apply to it. As a Gm I would probably not allow it - I cannot come up with a non-twink reason for wanting it. |

The only reason is that I just found Cloistered cleric and it fits my character, but I only really need one level of it. I guess it might be viewed as Cleric/Cleric; but I'm not sure that it is. I guess that's perhaps a good first question. |
| DrakaraGM03-08-07, 03:22 AM | Per some statements in Unearthed Arcana -- where a variety of "variants of standard classes" can be found -- they indicate that you are NOT supposed to multiclass "X/variant-X". For example, no multiclass Fighter/Thug (which is a variant of fighter with reduced proficiencies and missing the level 1 feat but getting more skills and skill points). No multi-class Bard/Savage Bard. And so on. In other words, if a class is truly a different class, you can multiclass with it. But if a class is a minor variant of a standard class, you are not supposed to multiclass between the standard class and the variant -- you are supposed to pick one and stick with it. So I would say that particular combination would not be normally be allowed -- i.e. when the character becomes a cleric, his type of cleric is determined at that time. (However, feel free to try to create a 10-level Cloistered Cleric PrC if you like...) BUT if your GM were to allow the Cleric/Cloistered Cleric multiclass combination, the following rules should appy: First, as whenever multiclassing two separate spellcasting classes, each class keeps its own spell list and own spells per day. They do not stack. So a Cleric2/CloisteredCleric2 would not get access to any second level spells, though he would have plenty of 1st level spells. A Cleric8/CloisteredCleric1 would not get access to 5th level spells, but would have a few extra 0th and 1st level spells (all cast as a 1st level cloistered cleric). As usual, multi-classing spellcasters tend to get a greater number of low level spells and fewer higher level spells -- giving up power for supposed diversity. But at least with a cleric/wizard you have both divine and arcane magic and also can use wands of both etc. Second, if you have separate domains for each class, then they should only apply to the class you take them for, i.e. affect spells of that class and be based on class levels in that class. This is easy enough to rule for things like Destruction domain (your smite damage is based only on levels in the class for which you selected Destruction), but ity would seem like classes that give you a bonus caster level when casting certain types of spells should work (alignment domains etc.). Also, the bonus domain spell you might get for each class could only be filled from domains selected for that class. However, turn undead levels should stack, as all classes which get turn undead as a class feature do seem to have them stack. Anyway, you are probably better off not doing it. Find a PrC which gets you a bonus domain or whatever if that is what you are looking for. |
