Hi,

A player of mine presented me with something that sounded interesting, and I cant think of a reason why he can't do it ...

He wants to play a swashbuckling cleric (Of Tymora in the Forgotten realms, in this case). Clerics have access for free to all simple weapons. He wants to pay for the Martial Weapons feat and use a Rapier.

In 2nd Edition, clerics could only use bludgeoning weapons, but I can't find any rule along those lines in the 3.0/3.5 PHB. The allowed weapons (All Simple Weapons) even includes two edged weapons - Sickle and Dagger.

Is there any reason why he can't use a Rapier ?

Thanks

SELECT WEAPON_NAME FROM WEAPONS WHERE
WEAPON_ID IN (SELECT W.WEAPON_ID FROM WEAPONS W, CLASSES C, PROCIFIENCIES P
WHERE P.PROF_TYPE=W.PROF_TYPE AND
C.CLASS_ID=P.CLASS_ID AND
C.CLASS_NAME='Cleric'
)

hum... this isn't the kin of query you meant, was it?
Well... sorry then...

But, contrary to my likings, it's true. The new cleric can use even a orcish double axe, if he wants too...

Tell your player that if his cleric is an elf, he doesn't even need to spend the feat; being automatically poficient and all.

He can use any weapon he wants. Some faiths may have special prohibitions, but that's the exeption, not the rule. Not being able to use bladed weapons is a thing of the past.

play a cleric of Kord with a Great Sword. Things seem so much simpler, then...
