Cleric + Build Help [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-20-07, 05:46 PM Starting in a new campaign and I'm used to playing melee characters and would like to venture from that now, starting with the cleric. We're starting at level 5 and i would like to find a way to make a good(healing+turning) cleric that is very offensive casting. I'm not looking for the heavy ac cleric with a punch, again I'm trying to get away from that style of play and character. Basically I'm looking to put together a CHA+WIS cleric that's light on his feet and fast with the offensive spells. Can this be done? All suggestions very welcomed.

1. What setting (FR, Eberron, home brew) is it?

2. What races are allowed? This leads to what race are you thinking about?

3. What books are being allowed?

3. Almost any book is fair game at this point.

06-21-07, 12:36 AM Not absolutely necessary, but Radiant Servant of Pelor is a good spellcasting prestige class. You get improved turning, improved healing with Healing Domain, and full spell progression.

Still, a regular cleric does just fine. Extend Spell is a good feat for buff spells, even when buffing others.

Quicken Spell for a spellcasting focused cleric isn't that great. However, when you then take Divine Metamagic Quicken, that becomes a very handy thing. Quickening your higher level spells will be awesome. At only +5 Turn attempts, a 14 Charisma gets you one such quickening. For extra effort, have at least a 16 Charisma and the feats Quicken Spell, Divine Metamagic Quicken Spell, and Extra Turning to be able to quicken any two spells a day. You can accomplish this at 5th level as a human cleric.

Which book is the Radiant Servant of Pelor in?

Interestingly enough, I am in the same position as the Op. I have to come up with a turn/heal heavy cleric and I have never played one before (I normally DM). I am just looking for some other interesting ideas as well so any other comments to the Op are appreciated.

06-21-07, 11:58 AM radiant servant of pelor is in complete divine. Contemplative is an other good prc also in complete divine.

If you are going for rariant servant I suggest that you look at the spontanious domain casting variant in phb II. That way al your healing spells will be domain spells and they will all benefit from the empower en maximize healing abilities of the class

06-21-07, 01:10 PM A good thing to consider is the cloistered cleric variant. It lowers the HD by on, the BAB is poor, but you gain 6+int skills, knowledge domain, and a few new spells on the spell list. If you want to do damaging spells, then cleric is not the right class for you. Druid is a good way to get those, but arcane casters are the offensive spellcasters. A good non-warrior cleric build is cleric-5, divine oracle-1, radiant servant of pelor-10, divine oracle or contemplative-4. All of these prcs are from CDivine. (divine oracle is nice because you get evasion in heavy armor). That build focuses on buffing the party and healing the party. Look to the healing, sun (prereq.), and purification domains (bonus from Rad. Ser.), and you get the oracle domain from divine oracle. Your divination spells will be great, as you have +2 catser level for them. As for feats, augment healing, skill focus (knowledge religion) (prereq.), extra turning (prereq.), (divine vigor, divine spell power, divine metamagic, sacred healing)(all from CDiv.), Nymph's Kiss and other exhalted feats.

06-21-07, 03:57 PM Thanks for the help. Maybe i was a bit over my head. Guess its back to the status que cleric. Radiant servant is a decent prc, especially with that quicken meta build. Keep the ideas coming :P
