| Varrik06-23-04, 01:30 AM | Hi just wanted to know what you all thought about this idea. Granted, we all agree that DD sucks. But putting that aside and looking at core rules and books, please tell me your thoughts. The DD requires only 8 ranks of Know. Arcana and the ability to spontaneously cast arcane spells. So that means you can reach Cleric 9/Sorc1/DD10. "If a character has more than one spellcasting class, he must decide to which class he adds each bonus spell as it is gained. " which means the bonus spells can go to the Cleric side. Thanks a lot. Varrik |

The 8 ranks of Knowledge arcana might be tough to swing at the last minute but it can be done. Easily done if you are not in a hurry to get into the class. Are you thinking of making a very dragon oriented cleric? |
| roguebfl06-23-04, 02:59 PM | There is a way to quual for the DD as a cleric without Multi Class. Step 1: get the Spell Domain. Ther 3rd level Spell is Any spell the lets you cast Arcane Spells. Step 2: Get the Feat from CD: Domain Spontaneity. you now have the ability to Spontanouly cast Arcane Spells. |
| Moonstonedragon06-23-04, 06:00 PM | But you have to pray for anyspell so your not Spontanouly casting an arcane. Basically just be a man and take one level in sorcerer like all the fighters, monks, and all other classes do to get it |

| Varrik06-23-04, 10:07 PM | Well that route seems a lot of work considering you don't lose out of anything (save a few spells) for being a 9th level cleric versus a 10th level one. Yes, a few extra spells are nice, but the DD if timed right gets those back anyway. What I mean is that you don't get the next level of spells until 11th level. So being 9th versus 10th doesn't hamper you as much anyway. But you do get the benefit of adding a lot of zero and first level Arcane spells to your repetoire and the ability to use Arcane wands and scrolls (sorta). You're BAB would be 13/8/3, and saves of 13,6,15. A lot of cleric spells are buff oriented. Domain powers can be substantial. Righteous Might anyone? I'm mainly doing it for role-playing, but am excited about how unusual the combination is...I feel, at any rate. Thanks for your help all. If there are any further comments, please advise. |
| DM Zoc06-24-04, 01:57 AM | The other way to do it is to be a gnome. Spontaneous cantrips. |

It's the other way around with some dragons. they can select spells from the cleric list as well as spells known, but when cast by the dragon, they are arcane. A dragon in dragon sized fullplate casting CLW still has 50% spell failure chance. A cleric in fullplate casting Magic Missile through Anyspell has no failure chance - because the spell is divine. Originally posted by DM Zoc The other way to do it is to be a gnome. Spontaneous cantrips. This doesn't work either. I don't know where so i cannot link you, but i can recall the sage ruling that spell-like abilities do not count as 'being able to cast a spell." Otherwise a 3rd level drow cleric could become a Mystic Theurge. |

It's not that I disapprove of someone with that kind of authority, or even of any of the rulings, it's just that such magazines are well beyond the access of people like myself. As for the Drow/MT thing, it wouldn't work because you don't have a class to improve upon. |
| mellowship06-24-04, 08:59 AM | Originally posted by DM Zoc The other way to do it is to be a gnome. Spontaneous cantrips. That doesn't work. The gnome's cantrips are spell-like abilities, not spells. However, what *does* work is taking the Magical Training feat from Player's Guide to Faerun, which gives the ability to cast real cantrips. So a cleric could take that feat and qualify for DD. |
