I'm lookiong to play an elven cleric worshiping Corellon Larethain in our next game, starting off at 6th level. I've never played a cleric before, never played a spellcaster before, and trying to get a handle on how to create the guy.

For example, I have three feats. I already get wpn focus for the war domain, and I also took combat casting. Looking through all of the metamagic feats, I had trouble envisioning how many most of them would help a cleric, at least at lower levels.

My character will have to do a bit of fighting, so I need a bit of combat fun, but just looking for any suggestions. Thanks.

I always liked heighten spell as my first metamagic feat. Especially for divine casters, as you have the hold person/monster and command options. Raising the level raises the save DC, making these spells potent throughout your adventuring career. Maximize spell isn't bad either, if you plan on doing a lot of healing. Taking the randomness out of a healing spell roll is sometimes VERY important.
On the other hand, some combat feats might be fun if you want a "fightier" cleric. Consider archery feats like precise shot and point blank shot. Keeps you effective in combat, without being in the front lines. Also emphasizes your elf heritage, as most clerics cannot use bows without taking feats.

Just my :twocents:. Please note that I play 3.0 and some or all of the above may not apply to 3.5.

For some reason, I've always liked making my clerics good undead turners. There are tons of great turning feats in CD, LM etc.. Improved turning, extra turning etc... Also look at the "divine metamatic" feats in CD. They should get your wheels turning. =)

look through the PrCs in CD; there are a lot of cool ones.

(BTW: if you do end up doing a lot of turning, a phylactery of undead turning is absolutely essential)

If you can, I recommend scrapping Combat Casting; it only applies in one situation, and it applies a bonus that gets progressively less significant as you gain levels. If you absolutely must get a Concentration bonus, then get Skill Focus(Concentration), so you can at least get the bonus while being continually damaged, grappled, or otherwise impeded.

Is he going to be a good or an evil cleric? I haven't really used any good clerics, per-se, but I know that with evil clerics you can get some really good spells. But if at all, don't be neutral, because with good or evil, you get the good or evil aura, meaning all creatures of the opposite alignment get freaked out in battle.

Is he going to be a good or an evil cleric?

He intends to worship Corellon Larethain, god of elves. No, that does not mean drow.
