My cleric just lost his connection with his diety in my Thursday night OpenRPG game. I am wondering if there is an "official"(ie WotC) rules for this situation.

Sorry, I guess I should have been more specific. In actuallity, a better description of my situation would be the reverse, my diety has lost her connection with me. The demiplane that my group is on just underwent a major event(extent of which we don't know just yet), which severed my connection with Tymora. My main concern is what happens to my various powers and the spells I currently have memorized.

If you've already prayed for the day and recieved your spells, you'll still have them. However, you will not be able to refresh them the next day, or any following day until the connection is restored. You'll still be able to turn undead though.

... huh, no deific contact, and they're short a healer. Normally I'd say you're boned, but...

Dude, you better freakin' keep your spells uncast until there's a big encounter. Go for Melee. Use your Divine feats.

Since clerics don't have to have gods, it stands to reason that being 'separated' from your god wouldn't have any significant side effects to your cleric.

If his character is worshipping Tymora, then he's in the Forgotten Realms. Folks in the Realms have a rather significant connection to the Powers they worship; as far as I'm aware, all Clerics in the Realms have to have a patron deity to pray to.

The ability to turn undead, as well, is connected to a divine source, as are the Divine feats, which are powered by the turn undead ability.

Hopefully your Dungeon Master doesn't plan on this happening for too long, because if so, that's hosed your PC in a way that isn't quite fair, because it removes your primary class abilities. What I'd recommend is being very judicious in the use of your spells (the ones you've already prepared are still there in your mind) until your connection with Tymora is re-established. Use your combative abilities; Clerics have the third-best hit dice in the game, so they're harder to kill by a long shot than most Rogues, Bards, Sorcerors, Wizards and Psions, at least in terms of straight damage.

And above all else, do everything in your power to find out why your connection with Tymora is severed, and repair it.

I'm sure the DM doesn't plan to have this last long. I've been there, done that in a game awhile back. My cleric lost contact with her deity (also in Forgotten Realms) but still went into combat and noticed that our ranger wasn't able to cast his spells, so I (my cleric) didn't try. If it's basically the same events that we had to deal with, then the cleric IS hosed as there's no connection to be able to cast any sort of spell. However, after a time, we did regain our contact with our respective deities, able to cast spells once more.

This cause doesn't seem like it's a case of the cleric falling out of his/her god's favor. It's probably a case of losing contact. Period. From some other reason.

I thought having a worshiper on a plane automaticaly made a link to the god. This should be in the manual to the planes. I am only 90% on this though.

Remember that you can still make use of divine scrolls and other activated items.

Now, do clerics loose their connection to their diety in Sigil? Really, if the Powers can't get into Sigil, how do they provide spells to their clerics there?

I would simply think that the Powers are confined to the Multiverse. If you leave the Multiverse, you loose any connection to your diety. I think that's what your DM is doing...

IIRC, a cleric can get spells from any world in the multiverse, even if their diety is not part of that world's panethon. For worlds where the diety is not represented, the cleric gets spells from the equivilent god or goddess. I remember reading somewhere that it is considered an unwritten rule among gods to provide spells to clerics from other worlds who are attached to dieties with the same domains as you. This is intended for clerics traveling through the world on a trip. If the cleric decides to settle in that world, then the god granting the spells by proxy can eventually refuse any more grantings unless the cleric changes faithes.

Here is what I suspect has happened. One or both of the following has happened. First, the dieties of this plane, which have been imprisioned for a number of centuries have returned and are blocking Tymora's connection. Second, the plane may have under gone a major temporal and spatial shift causing the connection to be severed.

Your DM probably has things well under management. Just enjoy the ride.

I don't think that channeling energy requires a link to one's deity, because you're channeling from the positive energy plane, not the deity. Your Turning stuff would still function unless you've been cut off from all other planes.

Aside from that, be very frugal with what spells you've got left, because you don't know when you'll be able to get more. (No, losing the connection with your deity shouldn't make you forget the spells that she already granted you.)

In our case, it wasn't the "forgetting" part that was the problem, it was the loss of connection with the deity that made us "lose" our spells.

And it depends on if these "new" deities are strong enough to block out Tymora's power, even in this different plane.

There's some sort of reasoning on the DM's part regarding this. Hint: PLOT POINT. ;)

Thats why no one uses AOL for spellcasting.
