Ok in the campagin one of our guys who is a pysonic died and has come back as a vampire spawn. i have 2 question if you can help with:

1. Has he just alienated half the party?

2. Does he get all the weakness of the vampire spawn as he says he doesn't?

Err...there isn't much info on playing vampire spawn characters, not to mention he is going to have a strong will to be evil now as a vampire. In my opinion...I'd say let him make a new character. That's what we did when one of our PCs turned into a shadow.

Yes, as a vampire spawn you would get the weaknesses of a vampire spawn, because well, he's a vampire spawn.

Logic FTW!

Also, everything depends on the party. How accepting is the party to the newly formed spawn? Are they willing to deal with both the threat that he might get hungry and turn on them or that he'll have to start eating the enemy from now on.

Vampire spawn does not mean evil, although there's a good chance any NPC vampire spawn will be. There's no reason you limit your player to playing an evil character unless the campaign is based around being evil.

You don't have to be Evil if you're a vampire.

Have someone in your player group pick up Libris Mortis.

My first suggestion is to stake the poor guy and resurrect him/her when they get the cash. The vampire (spawn) template is a killer for any caster imo. Aside from that, it is possible to be a non-evil vamp, but it is literally a 1-in-a-million occurence. As for how the others would react, I suppose it would depend on their personal morals and faith. A cleric of Hoar could live with a vamp in the party, but a cleric of Kelemvor would go through the Hells and back to get fang boy to get some suntan.

Vampire spawn... aren't they mind controlled by their creator vampire?

That does not a happy party make.

Honestly, if this event happened I'd make it a segue quest to kill the new spawn so they can resurrect him. Unless the point of the game or the character is becoming a vampire... I, as GM, wouldn't let it happen as a permanent thing.

Vampires are minmaxed, and extremely powerful but stacked full of bans and flaws that limit them in ways that make a game with them unfun. When one character is isolated, like vampires are whenever the sun is in the sky, the game suffers.

Now if -all- the characters were vampires, that would be different, but with only one character... that character is going to be excluded from a huge amount of story.

From the perspective of game balance and fun, sudden unplanned vampirism doeth sucketh mightily.
