| Wharin03-18-05, 09:58 AM | [Edit, this probably belongs in the Faerun section moreso than here, but as Eilistraee is a favorite among drow players of all realms, i figured i'd try this forum first] Alright, so we all know that Eilistraee is the goddess that runs around in the buff, and as a rule, her clerics, though not nude, wear considerably less armour then the traditional cleric. And there are a few, including myself, that like to play their clerics wearing little more than what their mommas gave them. That said, that puts them at a considerable disadvantage to the traditional cleric (painfully low AC), so i was thinking of a way to help counter act that. What I want is to give them martial proficiency with the bastard sword (not exotic), and something on par with a Monk's AC bonus. So here are my thoughts on how to do that: 1) A specialist cleric: simply a cleric with their armour proficiencies, and maybe their traditional weapon prof's removed and have the monks AC bonus and martial bastard sword profiency. Also preform would be a class skill, if its not already. Upside: I dont feel that these bonuses, in and of themselves compared to a pure cleric are really, in any way, over powered. The monk AC is still lower than a tradition cleric, and a twohanding a bastard sword, isnt the most proficient weapon in the world. And at the same time, it captures the feel of what a Eilistraeen cleric is. Downside: I am worried about the Min/Max capabilities of this with Mystique Theurge builds. Getting armour while ignoring ASF troubles me a bit. Also, if something were to happen where the cleric looses their class abilities, the cleric is gimped considerably more so than a paladin would, should she fall from grace. 2) A prestige class: Probably the safest way to go about this, as I ,being a traditionalist, dont care for mucking around with core classes more so than needed. In such a prestige class, she would gain a Monks AC, and bastard sword prof (though maybe making the BS prof a req might be in order). Also, as it is a prestige class, its understood that their is a risk of heavier consequences should they fall from grace; something that is not quite so apparant with normal core classes. It also gives room to give them more special abilities later on (like, i dunno, bonuses to Preform (dance) and such) Upside: Like i said above, it doesnt muck with the core class, but (eventually) capture the flavour of Eilistraee Downside: While it is safe, i hate having to wait to get a substandard ability, for the sake of flavour. Unless there are some cool abilities added, it makes the prestige class, asside from flavour points, pointless. 3)Initiate of Eilistraee feat: Not unlike the Initiate feats in PGtF, its a feat tied to a particular deity. Obviously the deity in question would be Eilistraee (doy!) and the level could be anything (i'd prefer level 1, but its debatable). This particular one could give the Iniate a monk's AC (and possibly remove their current armour profs) and give martial prof with the Bastard Sword, and make Perfom a class skill. This idea is my favorite of the 3, but it might not be the best. I dunno. Upside: Probably being the most progressive of the three ideas, it give the cleric the ability for flavor, while only giving up a feat (which may or may not bot a lot to some characters), and thus only risk "wasting" a feat should they fall out of grace, and can still be a cleric of roughly the same power should they sign on with another deity. As per the other iniate feats, you could make some of the moon domain spells, spells that they could simply add to their spell list. Downside: For a feat it seems to be an aweful lot (as you are getting a very cool ability and a weapon prof, all in one feat) and at the same time, very little (as your spending a feat to be just as powerful as a normal cleric, only in a different way, all for the sake of flavour). That said, i could see alot of Eilistraee clerics taking the feat, nonetheless. and of course there's 4) Dont be a wiener and either just take the Hit to AC, or wear some friggen clothes, and spend the feat on the BS weapon prof! But thats no fun at all, now is it. heh |
| Wharin03-18-05, 12:00 PM | Oops, i think i forgot to ask my question. So basically? What is your guys opinions? Does any of these 3, er 4 options appeal to you more so than the other? I'd like to hear what you guys have to say on the issue. The one downside that i already see to creating this is the Mystic Theurge builds, so, i could also use your opinions on that matter as well. |

| Wharin03-18-05, 03:20 PM | Unfortunately i dont have that particular book, but i do remember reading parts, albeit it with some fuzzyness. Wasn't the Wanderer's ac based on CHA? While that would *also* be appropriate, given the nature of of Clerics, it would put too many points in too many places. Though i could be wrong. Also, does it give a BS prof? I dont need specifics, or anything, but does that PrC really match the flavour of Eilistraee? Maybe it does... ill have to check my next trip to the book store. [edit: i am moving this topic to the Forgotten Realms boards here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=5710828#post5710828) so if you have an opinion do it there. |
