04-26-07, 10:11 PM All right, a couple of questions occured to me concerning clerics, and I didn't find answers on WOTC website.

1 - For clerics that are able to rebuke/command different types of creatures (such as a cleric who commands undead AND plant creatures [because of the Plant Domain]), do all of the commanded creatures count toward a single total of commanded creatures that he can command, or do they total up seperately? What I mean is, would such an example cleric command up to his level in HD of undead and plant creatures, or would it be up to his level in HD of undead AND up to his level in HD of plant creatures?

2 - It states in the cleric's text that they need not be devoted to a particular deity. But, the description of turning/rebuking undead states that the cleric must present their holy symbol to do so. What is a cleric with no godly affiliation to do for turning/rebuking undead, since having no god assumebly means having no holy symbol?

04-27-07, 12:33 AM I think I can answer the second one, the holy simbol don't have to especifically be related to a god, it can be a source of power for your godless faith, like a lucky charm or some kind of taboo item in which you put your strenght of though and personality to do your turning attemps, casting spells, etc

04-27-07, 12:39 AM in the players handbook under the equipment, you can buy a holy symbol just buy one.

the holy symbol is just a way to put divine power to the material realm. or something like that. just buy a holy symbol and everything will be ok.

PS. love the quote. I once had a paladin that would detect evil on everything at will. if there was any evil at all, even a smidge. I would kill'em

I asked the same question. Although I did not get an official response (yet?), it seems that Turning Undead is totally seperate from Turning something else. The number of Turning attempts don't stack and you can't use the alternate turning for Divine Feats.

04-27-07, 10:48 AM I think both turning types stack, they can command/rebuke/turn plants, undeads, dragons, elementals, etc if they had that variant class feature or by gaining it from a domain

I agree. Because they are distinct in all other ways, as you mentioned, it would seem they are separate in all others ways too, including the number of creatures you can control.
