Cleric's Spontaneous Casting [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-11-06, 09:23 AM Ok...a good cleric can drop prepared spells for heal spells...an evil cleric can drop prepared spells for inflict spells...and a neutral cleric gets to decide which it can drop prepared spells for...

My question...can a good cleric prepare inflict spells?...can an evil cleric prepare heal spells...and can a neutral cleric prepare the opposite of the spells it can spontaneously cast?

I am looking to make a cleric is CN and spontaneously casts inflict spells, however, does that stop me from preparing heal spells?

...if I can prepare heal spells...that would count as access to heal spells...so I'd be able to take the Spontaneous Healing feat (from Complete Divine...I think)...so I'd be able to cast heal and inflict spells spontaneously...right?

I think I'm right, but my DM isn't sure and I'd like something from players at large to back me up...thanks!

12-11-06, 09:31 AM No matter what you spontaneously cast you can memorise either cure spells or inflict spells as a cleric. The spontaneous part is based on the alignment of the character. The only problem you might have is if you cast too many cures or inflict spells and they go against your alignment. As to the spontaneous healing feat, I cant answer that as I do not have my Complete Divine in front of me.

Inflict and cure spells do not have alignment descriptors, and that is the only thing that prevents clerics from casting certain spells on their spell list.

Neither the Cure spells nor the Inflict spells have an alignment descriptor, therefore just using them isn't any sort of alignment conflict ... it depends on how you use them. There's no real difference between bashing someone for 10 damage with a mace or dealing 10 damage with Inflict Light Wounds.
