| Yangzigi10-23-06, 08:57 PM | There s a few DM who play the cleric spell like the sorcerer, they dont have to memorise them in the morning ( like wizards) they pray for it like socerer cast spell ( this rule apply to druid to). I dont have a probleme with that at first ( they can play like they want , its there game after all) but it make a powerfull class even more powerfull. In a way it make sense, the cleric pray for a miracle and it happen , they dont ask for it and spend them later like a wizards cast spell. Now they want me to try it in my game. Im going to try it , but i want to make the cleric a little less powerfull. here s what im going to do 1-cast spell like sorcerer ( same rule to metemagic feats as well) 2-no more spontaneous casting ( of course!) 3- domain spell cant be change, they must be learn in the moring ( like wizard do) 4- turn or rebuke undead is no more a class talent , but can be learn as a feats. it s no big change, but it downsize them a little, im interested to your opinion or idea. |

If a sorcerer has to suffer the extra time using a metamagic feat in exchange for the ability to cast spells spontaneously, then a cleric should also. 2) Well, that isn't the best way of phrasing it, but I get the point. They can spontaneously cast everything, so spontaneously converting a spell into a cure spell is a redundant ability. It doesn't detract anything in the ay of power, though. 3) What's the difference? I mean, they are limited to one/day/spell level anyway, and if they are getting their other spells on the fly, why not let them get this also? It's all coming from the same source (their diety). Either way, this is not a limiting factor, just using the old system selectively, so it does nothing to limit their newfound power. 4) Not sure about this. I see where you are coming from, but there will be two schools of thought; One that says that you are forcing clerics to take a feat in order to do their job at all, and another that says that turning isn't that great at the higher levels anyway, so it's no big deal. You have played with this group. I am assuming that one of your players has run a game and uses this system. How did it work? Did you just feel that it was all upside for the cleric? Did it seem "balanced"? I just question any modification to the rules that takes what are widely considered as two of the most powerful classes, if not the two most powerful, and makes them more powerful still. |

I d rather use those new class than change an old one |

I only mention it because there may be some tips to help you balance it in UA. |
