The Players Handbook is not very specific, simply stating that some clerics can turn creatures other than undead (Turning Other Creatures, p160). Our group is planning to start a new gothic Campaign and I am creating a cleric. I thought it would be ideal to take the moon domain to be able to turn lycanthropes, but if I lose the ability to turn undead in exchange, it may not be worth it. |

| jljudd11-26-06, 07:21 PM | Ok, another question: The Glory domain gives a turn undead bonus of +2 to turn checks and a +1d6 to damage checks as it's granted power. While the descripiton refers specifically to turning undead, the description on turning other monsters indicates I am to use the same turning process as undead. Therefore, if I take the Glory domain and the Moon Domain, the Glory turning bonuses would apply to both undead and Lycanthrope turning. Am I right, or did I miss something? |

No - the Bonus only applies to Turning Undead, per the verbage in the Spell Compendium: "Granted Power: Turn undead with a +2 bonus on the turning check and +1d6 on the turning damage roll." I would also say the synergy from Knowledge: Religion does not affect turning that is not undead because of how it's worded. |

However - as a DM I grant a synergy bonus from other Knowledge catagories for turning other creatures. For Instance five ranks in Knowledge (The Planes) would give you a synergy bonus to turn elementals, or five ranks in Knowledge (Arcana) would give you a bonus to turn a Dragon with an elemental sub-type. Note - this is a house rule, I think it is fair, but it is entirely up to your DM. Ask him nicely if you can have a synergy bonus to turn Lycanthropes (I suggest a bonus from Knowledge (Nature) - but Knowledge (Local) is a possibility - since lycanthropes are humanoid [shapechanger] type. If he says 'no' don't whinge. |
