| DracoRuler03-11-05, 10:00 PM | Ok, this is my new cleric variant, for a cleric who worships a nature totem rather than a god. Nature Worshiper Instead of worshiping a god, you worship a specific nature totem, which grants you a closer tie to nature. You may choose a totem from the list below. You gain access to only one domain, but in exchange you at every level that you gain the ability to cast another spell level, you can add a druid spell of that level to your cleric list (excluding orisons). From that point on, the spell is considered to be on your list for casting purposes. New Feat: Totemic Companion [General] Your intense worship of nature grants you a special companion. PrerequisitesNature Worshiper, ability to cast 2nd level divine spells Benefit You gain a companion, according to your nature totem, listed on the table. This companion acts as a druid's animal companion, and advances in say way. For advancement purposes you are considered a druid of 4 levels lower than your cleric level. If the total adjustment is less than or equal to 0, you cannot obtain the companion until the adjustment reaches 1. | Lord Welkerfan03-13-05, 10:42 AM | Nice, well thought out. How about shuriken for hyena and spiked gauntles for lion? |
| DracoRuler03-14-05, 09:46 PM | i dont like shuriken for hyena, a bit too exotic, but the spiked gauntlet is a good idea, and has been added. On another note I need more...anything. I dont care if it's just a "good job, dont see any problems" i worked for like 6 months on this (i have no attention sp...ooooo look a bug) the least you could give me is a pat on the back! |
| NailoBladeMaster03-15-05, 10:46 AM | Looks great, well thought out, other than that you might want to consider a Bastard Sword for lion, because, after all the lion is often a symbol of kings, spiked gauntlet would be good for the Hyena. |
| DracoRuler03-15-05, 05:31 PM | thats a great idea. See this is why i post on these boards, opinions, and finally i get one. Welkerfan doesnt count, but come on, there cant only be one person with an opinion out there. If this doesnt work ill try moving it to the houserule boards and see what i get there. DR |
| Lord Welkerfan03-16-05, 07:07 PM | One thing that is really annoying that will get you more replies if you stop doing is using elipsis (...) in place of periods (.). They are not interchangeable. Cut it out. |
| DracoRuler03-16-05, 10:20 PM | Ok, fine my sentences are all fixed. I knew that was going to drive you crazy eventually, and it finally did. So irrelivent, but sooo bumping my post! :p |
| thefuzzzybear03-16-05, 10:51 PM | i like, kinda what i wanted before but i couldnt figure out how to carry it, and the lvl of -4 from animal companion chart is maybe a little to strong i mean you dont want to step on any toes really, the druid and ranger mostly and clerics have full spell and turning and i think half your levels equals the druid level would be perfect because this allows you to keep all your cleric stuff, you just become a friend of an animal, i love animal companions, i kind of wish all classes got something like it, a famliar you know something. |
| Quirriff03-16-05, 11:00 PM | Bad idea, use Druid/Spirit Shaman, or worship Obad hai, or a god like 'im. |
| Lord Welkerfan03-17-05, 06:51 PM | If you are going to post, please be kind enough to give something more than good/bad, or at least explain why it is good/bad. Why do you believe this is a bad idea? |
| DracoRuler03-17-05, 11:50 PM | thank you welkerfan. I swear you watch my threads more closely than i do. But like he said, i would like something constructive, do you think the whole concept is bad? I realize it is the similar to worshiping obad-hai, but i figured clerics like that should have special rules. fuzzybear, thanks for the comment, but im not quite sure i know what you said, could you clarify? thanks DR |
| thefuzzzybear03-18-05, 05:48 PM | You gain a companion, according to your nature totem, listed on the table. This companion acts as a druid's animal companion, and advances in say way. For advancement purposes you are considered a druid of 4 levels lower than your cleric level. If the total adjustment is less than or equal to 0, you cannot obtain the companion until the adjustment reaches 1. thats quoted from you. what i meant was instead of counting the animal companion chart as a druid 4 levels lower then your cleric level, make count like this, half your cleric levels rounded down, that way you dont step on the ranger's toes, or the druid's, i mean you keep the huge spell selection and the ablity to turn undead, both really big things. and you may want to rethink some of you companions, especially the plant ones, no offense but those seem really strong. i love the idea because i love compaions i wish every class got something like that, i think it would add a lot of feel to the game and give it something that you can connect with easier, plus haiving an animal by your side is just cool. hope that helped. |
| Lord Welkerfan03-20-05, 09:46 AM | I agree with that proposal. Cleric level - 4 steps on the ranger's toes a bit too much. Though, I find it rather underpowered that a cleric would lose a domain in order to take a feat to gain an animal companion. Perhaps they should automatically be granted proficiency in the totem's favored weapon, and if they have it already, focus. |
| Nero's Boot03-20-05, 01:09 PM | This is way too close to being a druid to be a seperate class. Why play a totemic cleric, when you could simply play a druid that worships animal spirits? --Scarred Lands by Sword and Sorcery Studios has a lot of info on totemic druids NB |
| DracoRuler03-20-05, 06:18 PM | fuzzybear, thanks for clearing that up, i'm not sure what else to do, if i make it 1/2 cleric lvl, then some companions are unattainable. Second, yes some of the companions are powerful, but all of them are adjusted repsectively. Welkerfan, they're not losing 1 domain for the ability to take a feat, they're losing 1 domain for a wider range of spells, which include some more powerful spells, and the ability to take a feat which grants a companion. It's supposed to be close to a druid, but there's a HUGE difference between worhipping and becoming part of nature as a druid, and glorifying one of its spirits as a cleric. The only thing they share is 1 spell per lvl, and possibly a companion, if the cleric decides to take the feat. That doesnt seem very similar to me, in the whole scheme of things. |
| Nayk03-20-05, 09:07 PM | Why not give the Wild Cohort feat for free to the cleric? here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031118a&pf=true) Y@ |
