zelvious 06-09-04, 11:54 PM	would this be an ok idea to do, since if u use the cleric first, and go to like 5th level, and then go to the paladin? but i was wondering what would be the best race to do it with? i was thinking about making a good drow, but i would like a little feedback cheers!:D
talast 06-10-04, 12:18 AM	you'll need to state more about what you want to accomplish? things like: better saves? good melee? good spell caster? and etc. and on top of those, what's your character concept? as to your race, if you are going to play races with ECL ratings, you might want to look into Aasimar
Orcish Fury 06-10-04, 01:18 AM	A fighting cleric is a great concept and is mechanically sound, but I'd rather go fighter/cleric than paladin/cleric. Of course, going pure cleric is probably stronger in the long run.
zelvious 06-10-04, 01:22 AM	well, im trying to make a ultimate good guy for his deity.... if you want to say"mr. goodie tueshous.'' i have the concept in mind to be the ultimate good guy, and for the domains i am still not sure which ones i want, for a ultimate good guy, oh also sorry i left out alot of details, i had to go help my parents, p.s. i hope that is enough detail, but i was wondering if you could help me for the domains?
Sir Neil 06-10-04, 08:34 AM	Clerics are the holy warriors of their deity, so you'll want most of your levels there. I'd take three levels in paladin, for the Aura of Courage, then multiclass to cleric and not look back. You'll have more hp and better weapon proficiencies at the low levels when cleric spells are still weak. At higher levels, your magic will make up for the loss of supernatural powers. If your DM uses UA, you may wish to drop your Turn Undead for more Smite Evils. (If so, you could get by with only a level or two of paladin.) To me, a "Mr. Goody-Twoshoes" would have Healing and Protection, but those domains aren't very useful.
Mastermage 06-10-04, 11:29 AM	If you want to be the ultimate good guy, you should have good as one of your domains. Personally I would also choose Sun because of the good=light=sun sort of deal. As a deity, I would probally worship the idea of good, not any one deity. If you are going to be a Pal/Clr then you probally should be a Aasimar (Planetouched) **If the worship of Good has changed since 3.0 you have to forgive me. I don't have the 3.5 PHB. Strangly I have the 3.5 MM and the 3.5 DMG but the 3.0 PHB. I plan on getting the 3.5 PHB soon, though.

Only if you multiclass into a class that requires an alignment other than LG, for example, the Bard or the Druid. A Paladin who multiclasses to a Cleric who worships a NG, LN, or LG Deity can keep his LG alignment and not lose any of his Paladin abilities.
StevenO 06-10-04, 08:10 PM	Another option to consider is the Prestige Paladin. I think it's found in the UA but was previewed on the WOTC web site so you should be able to find it. I don't recall the class requirements but do remember that it increases your divine (clerical) spell casting abilities instead of giving you a new spell progression. This should give you more and better spells in the long run and still fit you character concept.
