The time has come that we will eventually expand the Core Coliseum. Polls are normally held in the Senate but I realize that this isn`t just a minor thing where a minority should decide about the outcome but a great thing that will affect the arena to a level never seen before. Note that Psionics are 'Core' and they are in the SRD.

And we are talking about 3.5 psionics!!!
The Expanded Psionics Handbook is out since one week.

Yes, of course. To all that want to vote against it please read on:

IMO the Psionics Handbook is a great addition to the CoCo. Builds are repeating itself so it would be the perfect time to open up new options.

The Arena is a place to test builds and what better a place to test the new psionics than here?

All that still have doubts should note that we have strong options in balancing things out and even if the worst comes to the worst we can always remove it again. Though this might be a complicated process we`ll only do this once if it comes to that.

Pitlords will get acustomed slowly since the psionic characters level slowly; they`ll need about 8 weeks to reach more complicated levels - if they win most of the time, more if they lose some of their fights. Additionally, psinic characters only have a handful of powers (even at higher levels) so it shouldn`t be a problem to learn them over time. Some of the powers are even very similar to existing spells.

Adding Psionics is a great thing, and many people will be having fun with all these new options. So by all means, give it a try!

Cat

Edit: I promise you one thing: the arena will get old over time. The newbie influx is already towards zero, and the 2nd level roster has only 2 characters. Without new options the arena will get bored over time and starve out, or at least be an old men home for a handful of hardcore players who play the 150th druid for the 20th time.

hate the psionics idea, but I'd like to see CoCo expanded. Yes is my vote.

Yes! Why not, I say. Psionics are just another facet to the Coliseum. After quickly overviewing the SRD, you have to take levels in a class to have psionic powers, and they seem pretty balanced to me. Plus, it would be so damn cool! This would add so much to the arena, and would be a great oppurtunity for roleplaying.

Yes of course.
Tellish_of_Ket

No.

I simply don't own any books other than basic core. I, and others, would be seriously disadvantaged by psionics.

Besides that, psionics are completely broken. If you think the arena gets out of control now with loop-hole finders and people jindlizing vocabulary, you just wait until psionics are in and the infinite loops are brought into play.

Not my idea of fun, or improvement.

This, to my knowledge, is 3.5 psionics - it's not broken, to my knowledge, and not owning the book isn't that really that good of a reason to vote against. I don't have any dnd book, really - I borrow the PHB on a regular basis from my local library, and plan to buy the DMG, so most of what I use here comes from various SRDs.

And the system isn't blind to loop holes. A pitlord moderating a fight doesn't have to allow an infinite loop to happen, especially if it is as broken as you say, Tellish.

Psionics in on the SRD, that's why we're considering allowing it in, everyone willl eb able to consult the "book" in order to understand how races, classes, feats, and powers work. Also, there are several nice feats that are "anti-psionics" and can only be taken by non psionic races and classes.

I definetely vote yes.

Wait Tellish, we`re talking about the EXPANDED psionics handbook (not the old one) which is out for a week now. How can you know abuot the brokeness of it all? Or even the RPGA. I`ve bought the book, made several characters with my friends and each time we thought to have detected a loophole or something unnaturally powerful we were disappointed in the end - and delighted that the system obviously works. The WotC designers did a good job here.

Jindlers are always present. You have to strip them of everything but commoners to neutralize them but then, where`s our fun? I`d give it rather a try then never knowing if we not barred an interesting new option.

TO ALL: DISCUSSIONS ARE NOT HELD HERE! GO TO THE PSIONICS QUERY!

Yes, to some degree, I don't buy the arguement that all the builds are being used up... but many in the arena want the psions and to be honest I wouldn't mind seeing them around too.

How do i change my Vote on the Poll?

I would like to change it to abstain. Maybe if the poll-creator can edit it. That way as an abstainee, i don't affect the overal results.

No problem Tellish. For exactly that reason I am going to track all votes. Your vote will be changed to abstain. Good choice. Yes would be even better :)

Voted no. I'd like to see it too, but I just think that its a bit off core rules.

Ok, after a heated discussion with Caterane, changes vote to yes. Dunno how to do this...
Arstimis

I vote YES under a few conditions.
Me, and if other Pitlords want, can request not to mod a fight of a Psionic Character. The reason being is that i do not know anything about Psionics. I dont mind fighting on at all, because i can see its character sheet, and easily look up what it specifically does. this might even get me to slowly learn the rules, and be able to mod thier fights.
But I will refuse to mod a Psionics fight for the time being, but i will fight them, and think a bit more variety need to be implemented into the arena.

While I still think there are more builds yet to be tried from the Core Rules and don't pitlords to have to learn a bunch of new rules.

I voted yes just to keep as an option b/c I don't think too many are really going to be making that many psionic characters and in the end all the reasons against won't be a huge deal.

I voted to abstain. I have no interest in purchasing the book, and I believe not having it will hurt some people in the long run, regardless of it being in the SRD. That said, I'd like the arena to continue to grow.
Beldin

I think bringing in the psionics would not be fair to the people who dont have the books.
