This is a public poll to find a name for the continent where the City of Gladius is on.

Since this is a community poll, only those who are Elders, are actively pitlording/questlording/campaignlording, or have at least one active character in the coco may vote. Active is defined as having fought within the last 4 weeks. Votes that do not fulfill one of these requirements will be ignored so don't bother making new accounts.

You can vote for more than one name!

The names have been picked from this (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=580850) thread where you proposed your ideas. If we later find out that your proposal already exists somewhere, the second placed proposal takes its place.

Note that there will be another poll coming soon that helps us to find a name for the planet so you have about a week to post additional ideas about the world.

Let's name the continent, guys!

Poll closes on wednesday, 22 February!

Had to go for my own submission - Ingara. To pull my note out of the other thread, for those insterested, its a derivation of Quenya Elvish - a hodgepodge of "Ingolë", which means "deep lore" or "magic", and "aranië", which means "kingdoms".

I do like some of the others though - particularly Terisia, Verysia, and Vathan.

Edit: Woops, missed Cat's "can vote for more than one name" note. That'll teach me to read the first post of a poll before voting :embarrass . Ah well, no big deal.

Hmmm... Vathan. Like the sound of that. ;)

*chuckles* That had more to do with me jumping the gun and voting before even looking at your post than anything else - it stood out like a sore thumb once I scrolled down to see it. Like I said, no big deal though, I still voted for my favorite nonetheless. :)

There's quite the list of names there, and a lot end in "ia." I've voted for four names of the bunch, and only one ends in "ia."

I was unaware this was going to vote so soon. My nomination would have been:

Othala

Perfectly good name, I assure you.

I'll vote soon.

Well, you can still participate with that name for the world next week. Make sure you post it in the thread.

I voted for everything that had a meaning of some sort behind it. So: Ingara, Viceria, Dimica, and Latronis.

Some of the proposals don't seem to have come from the proposals thread--like everything from Hatacia on. Where did they come from?

Edit: I thought I'd do some research to see if I could find any of those names elsewhere. Note that many of these are incredibly obscure and not necessarily grounds for invalidation. I'm including only major references, with an emphasis on geographical, fantasy, and sci-fi references.

Terisia is an online Magic: the Gathering fantasy city on the plane of Dominia.

Talas is a small town in northwestern Kyrgyzstan, part of the former USSR. It also appears to be a community in Arizona. And I don't know about the rest of you, but to me it sounds a lot like "Taladas," a continent name which I think most of you will recognise.

Ingara is a kingdom, the "Realm of Lost Glory," in the world of Inzeladun, the Dungeons and Dragons world of Vincent N. Darlage, created in 1981.

Viceria is the world of Rook Hawkins' work in progress, "The Rangers of Galan'dil." It is also the name of a professional wrestler.

Atlan is the name of Perry Rhodan's sidekick, from a popular German sci-fi series.

Orphus appears to be a Folk Rock duo from Denver.

Dimicia is a proper name from some South or Latin American origin. Nobody noteworthy.

Latronis isn't anything aside from the Latin for "mercenary," as I intended.

Kalania is a university in Sri Lanka. It's also the last name of a father-son team of internationally-known Feng Sui experts.

Therenia appears to be an extinct plant of some kind.

None of the others (Vathan, Tretarium, Cocotian, Hatacia, Enthisia, Lerasia, Belusia, Tasolia, Verysia, or Cheosia) seem to be much of anything.

I did not select that name for the world name. I selected the name SPECIFICALLY for the continent name.

DO NOT ENTER THAT NAME FOR THE WORLD NAME VOTE.

It is? Odd. I googled the name after I came up with it and this didn't pop up. May I ask what engine you used to research these? Sounds fairly... exhaustive.

In retrospect, I wouldn't have used the name anyways, as just about every single name ends in 'ia' O.o to my defense at least, I was the first to do it ^_^

Oh and btw, props for helping with the polymorph stuff. Your name is mentioned on the article on the errata.

Really? Now that is odd. From taking two words of Quenya and combining them I managed to come up with a name that somebody else had already made up. Huh.

Oh and btw, props for helping with the polymorph stuff. Your name is mentioned on the article on the errata.I used plain ol' Yahoo. It's sometimes a little less discriminating than Google. Here's (http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&forumid=281&x=20&y=14) a link, and here's (http://www.geocities.com/precat02/) another. Since the first of those two links is a scant three clicks away from here (Wizards.COMmunity->Games: Message Board->Terisia City and Fan Fiction), that's probably the most problematic of all the names.

And thanks for noticing. Andy Collins put up a call for help on his personal message board, and I helped with it. Oriental Adventures and the Manual of the Planes errata are all me, although there were several self-altering creatures I mentioned that didn't get changed, for some reason. I haven't bothered checking each and every one to see why not.

@Zevox: Here's Ingara (http://www.enworld.org/Inzeladun/inzeladun/realms/Ingara.htm), in case you're curious. That one's pretty obscure, though, so it's probably okay to use.

I created Talas, and I've never been to Kryzgstan, and I"ve never read any of the Krynn books, so the similarity to Taladas is just a concidence. :) The same concidence as there being a country of Georgia, and a state in the U.S. called Georgia.

Hm, this is a very close poll. Slight change: we'll make a second poll with the top candidates and you can only vote once then. I think that's more appropriate than picking a name that only won by one user voice. After all, we'll have to stick with that name.
