| Erithmu04-18-07, 04:37 PM | Arden walked with confidence to his appointed location. His training as a Steel Mind was giving him greater confidence, it was time to test some of those skills. Imahnd was not the most gracious teacher, but Arden understood that he was being tempered just as steel was. It was time to put some of those skills to good use. The EHTC was in the middle of ridding the trade routes of pirates and bandits. As the leadership dwindled, the jobs got easier and loyalties were tested of the rising members within the guild. Arden reached the area where he was supposed to be, and just as Va'ria had said, he saw the bandits ... and their pet. From the distance Arden could see that none of the men were of any threat, but the large beast could prove problematic. Suddenly a flash poped into the back of Arden's mind. He knew that some of the members of the Psi Consortium had innate psionic abilities, but something in the area was radiating uncontrollable psionic waves. In a moment he realized that it was the beast. Phrenic Large Humanoid looking (2 arms 2 legs head etc), but not humanoid appendages. |
| Zevox04-18-07, 05:32 PM | Arden knew what to do: he had his target, and he had some idea of its abilities based on its imposing appearance and psionic emanations. Staying out of its sight, he looses his own psychic powers to make himself into a bulwark as strong as Dis itself, the hellfire raging through his mind and sending his powers to heights they could never reach on their own. Gulping down a potion as a final precaution and gripping his favored crystalline blade, he advances on the creature, ready to prove himself to both his mortal and infernal lords. *clicks tongue* Annoying assumptions on the pp. I actually doubt Arden will use the 2 pp he has left in that fight, and this is contrary to past conventions for this. But I guess its not worth fighting over. Well, only one thing phrenic on the EL 6 list, so I know what I'm up against anyway. Start with +1 DC Greatsword and dorje of force screen in hand. Stick back for the moment (hoping its beyond noticing me) and buff: Defensive Precog (2pp + 2 surge), Vigor (1pp + 2 surge), Force Screen (dorje) and stow that, Prot. Evil (potion). Suppress displays. Net result: AC 29 vs evil, +3 saves vs evil, +15 temp hp. Note: if it notices me mid-buffing, move force screen up to the next buff (want my AC up high quick). Then move in and strike with psionic weapon. Charge if needed to reach it in 1 round, but use combat expertise 2 on that to negate AC loss. Then we'll see what happens. |
| Zevox04-21-07, 03:28 PM | :bump: |
| Erithmu04-21-07, 07:27 PM | Don't :bump: me. I was going to give you the 2 pp for the benefit of the doubt but now ... I dunno. But since you don't seem to need it anyways ... :P Arden drew his weapons in preparation for combat, and looking up he saw that the beast had seen him as well. The similar psionic waves must have given him warning. With a quick bout of mental staring, Arden watched as the creature imitated some of his own defenses, and then moved towards him before he was ready to deal with all his actions. rounds Arden - FS, Def Precog +2 Beast - FS, (Buff 1) Round 3 Arden - Vigor +15 hp Beast double move towards (distance 50ft) Round 4 Arden - ??? Charge? Pro Evil? Beast - Arden 39/39 AC 21 (FS) (Def P. +2) (+15 Vigor) Beast xx/xx AC?? (FS) (Buff) |
| Zevox04-21-07, 07:35 PM | Arden prepares his final ward, drinking a potion to protect himself from the beast, and grips his blade tightly. Time for the deadly dance to begin. Well, it had been 3 days, and I'd seen you on earlier in the day. Figured I'd make sure you hadn't just forgotten. You're right, looks like the 2pp won't be relevant (I was mostly thinking it'd be nice not to lose my focus if enervation kicked me, but with that passed thats no longer relevant). I'd probably just use it in the deep crystal anyway, so it would just speed this.Anyway, drink the potion. Then no doubt the melee starts. Simple strategy: attack w/ psionic weapon, 5' step back, refocus, repeat ad infinitum. It needs a 20 to hit me, I need only a 13 to hit it. If we hit the potion's end, start using combat expertise 2 to make up for it. If FS wears off, put it back up. I doubt I'll even need to renew my vigor to be honest though. |
| Erithmu04-21-07, 08:21 PM | Arden and the beast went back and forth trading mortal and mental blows. While the beast seemed to be able to hit with his bite, Arden played a more tactical game and landed one strong hit. If you had enervated it wouldn't have mattered. Remember if you enervate you lose pp = Wilder level (in this case 4) w/ 7 pp 2 for def precog 1 for Vigor -4 on an enervate would have been 0 pp anyways. And my MQ just got up today ... so I don't wanna hear nothing about me not doing my work :)Round 4 Arden - Quaffs Pro Evil Beast - move 30 Mind Thrust (Will: 28) Round 5 Arden - Charge + CE2 (atk: 17 miss) Beast - atk (11,1!,20! confirm 20! dmg 11) Round 6 Arden step refocus (20!) Ready to smash when in range Beast - MT: (Will 20!) Ok im 50% on rolling 20! right now ... scarry Round 7 Arden Step and smash (atk 18) Beast Full (nope) Round 8 Arden Step refocus (20!) Beast MT: (Will 15) Round 9 Arden Step/smash (atk 22 dmg 20) Beast Full (nope) Round 10 Step focus (16,13 fail) Beast step full (no,no,20! dmg 10) Round 11 Arden - more vigor? All these 20!s and none for your attacks ... sad. Arden 33/39 AC 21 (FS) (Def P. +2) (-- Vigor) Beast xx-20/xx AC?? (FS) (Buff) |
| Zevox04-21-07, 08:27 PM | Arden, surprised by the beast's ferocity, takes a moment to step back and not only restore his mental focus, but to restore his psychically enhanced endurance, before continuing the battle. Sorry. I guess I'm just anxious to have things like this done - I'm going to be busy as hell over the next few days (work tomorrow, finals Monday and Wednesday, major essay due Tuesday, major project due Wednesday, and of course work hours on both Monday and Tuesday to top it all off...), so I'll have little time for things around here.Wow, no love for me in those attack rolls (though saves look good at least). Yep, you guessed it - 5' step, try to refocus (first in case of enervation), then vigor 1pp + 2 surge. Then continue as before. |
| Erithmu04-21-07, 08:39 PM | Arden restores his mental defenses and then begins to find his rhythm as he lays into the beast with no effort and finishes the creature off. The men gathered scatter and flee for their lives. Arden almost wishes he had a horse to chase them with ... Round 11 Arden - Step + Vigor + Refocus (24) Beast - Full (nope) Round 12 Arden Smash (atk 19) step and focus (18) Beast - Step full (nope) Round 13 Arden step focus (21) Ready smash (atk 22 dmg 18) Beast Full no Round 14 Arden Step focus (14,20) (pro Evil fades) Beast BA (19 hp healed) Round 15 (Arden will CE for 2 when able from here on out) Arden step + strike (19! confirm 14 dmg 21) Beast Full (nope) Round 16 Judgment call here: you can't use CE with a ready action, so it is going to be swing, step, focus regardless of if you make focus since your AC seems to be primary here) Arden Swing (atk 22 dmg 15 refocus 21) and I make that call and you kill it on next swing ... figures. Arden 33/39 AC 21 (FS) (Def P. +2) (+15 Vigor) Beast xx-55/xx AC?? (FS) (Buff) |
| Zevox04-21-07, 08:48 PM | Arden watches the men scattering contemptibly. The fools were all that was left of this once-proud group of bandits the EHTC had worked for months to destroy, and were clearly too frightened of him now to fight back. Given he was hardly the strongest member of the group - and this lot knew that well enough - they wouldn't be bothering them again. Well, thats that. Thanks for running it :) . Oh, but you forgot Arden's used potion of Prot. Evil in the wrap-up. |
