| Megrim_Lord06-01-05, 06:35 PM | CALLING IN THE TROOPS Raising an evil organization is a trying ordeal, but perhaps the worst part is dealing with minions. Virgo, still basking in the glory of his previous successes, looks to cement a divine partnership with worthy allies. After doing a good deal of research, he sets out to acquire the allegiance of the Clerics of Hextor. The sun sets as he approaches the windowless wrought iron temple, the symbol of Hextor branded into the massive rusting doors of the place. Using his incredible strength he forces the doors open... one can only imagine they are used to keep weaklings from entering. Inside is a dimly lit theatrum, thick with the smell of blood and metal. Up at the mahogany stage is a large, brutish looking half orc priest, carrying a vicious looking mace and chanting from a black book. When the door opens he looks up, straight into Virgo's eyes, and says with a deep and gravelly certainty in his voice "Ahhh.... Virgo Arkazzan, We've been expecting you. This temple is well aware of your wish to recruit us into your organization, and we bow to no one! However! We respect those with strength, those not ruled by fear or controlled by their emotions. We have test for you, a most difficult and lethal test, where Gladius's nimbus cannot protect you. You must face death incarnate, you must face your mortal enemy, and finally, you must face yourself. Successfully complete the test, and you will have our allegiance, impress us and you may have a treasure of ours as well. The offer is made, what say you?!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Virgo Arkazzan "The Coming Evil"- ECL 4 "The calm before the storm is your deathknell." | Megrim_Lord06-01-05, 06:39 PM | King Uther, just so you know how I do this, I will post a link to the quest roller name, you make all rolls for yourself and you decide everything your character does, just as we were DM and player, makes it easier for me and hopefully more fun for you |
| King Uther06-02-05, 02:14 AM | Cool, I can't wait. |
| Megrim_Lord06-02-05, 01:04 PM | then get to it! :D |
| King Uther06-03-05, 01:20 AM | I can feel the evil that surrounds this place, and it gives me much joy to know kindred spirits lie here. I will take your challenge, and exceed with overwhelming ease. Wife's birthday today. Couldn't do much D&D stuff. |
| King Uther06-03-05, 01:16 PM | "By the end of this you will cower in awe of my power, for in me is something strong enough to destroy everything you see. Take me to your pitiful challenge, cleric, that I may show you where you belong!" Virgo waits for the cleric's response, following him confidently to whatever fate awaits him. |
| Megrim_Lord06-03-05, 03:19 PM | "Very well, Hextor's judgement shall be swift, I cannot say as much for your death!" The cleric claps his hands, they resonate with an unnatural boom as Virgo's surroundings melt away and are replaced by a dank brownstone dungeon, the walls seeping with slime. He hears the voice of the cleric echo through the dungeon "The First Task. You must face Death Incarnate. You have one minute to scout the arena, and one more minute to prepare before death comes for you though you may choose to start sooner if you are foolhardy enough! | King Uther06-03-05, 04:33 PM | Virgo, after scouting the area, gets a good idea on how to tackle Death Incarnate. He starts in the southwest corner. With confidence, he starts his buffing sequence. 1. Animal Affinity Str+4 (Need link for roller for ML check) 2. Powerstone Bite of the Wolf 3. Potion Prot From Evil 4. Tattoo of Force Screen After only 4 buffs, I call out to Death Incarnate, daring him to confront me, "If you think you can stand before my strength, then test your fate, Death! | Megrim_Lord06-03-05, 06:22 PM | my pm box is cleared now, and you can position Virgo yourself on the map from now on, but I'll do it to speed things up "Death comes for you..." Anyways, I'll be back on in 36 hours to see if you let me keep the rolls or not. Have a good weekend. |
| King Uther06-06-05, 08:40 AM | So now what happens? |
| Megrim_Lord06-07-05, 03:40 PM | I'm being a bit lazy, I just rolled my dice at home for this. Virgo hears a wild screech, as Death, clearly a vampire spawn, leaps at him from the ceiling and tries to grab him (touch = 7). However this is unsuccessful and Virgo sidesteps Death, bringing down his scythe and decapitating him in midair. "Not Bad. Time for the next challenge. You must face your mortal enemy" The dungeon melts away and virgo finds himself on a path made of shining platinum between two pools of radiantly clear water. The entire room is brightly lit. At the end of the path is a small arenalike area, in the middle of which is a handsome human man in shining golden armor with a gold shield and brilliantly polished steel sword. "As before you have one minute to prepare, and do be careful of the water, I believe you will find it most... painful... "Prepare yourself knave! For in the name of righteousness, I will strike you down!" the man shouts in a haughty and arrogant voice. buffs and init again |
| King Uther06-07-05, 03:55 PM | For when combat starts, Init: 2 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=100872) Buffs: (All of my buffs have a duration of 1 minute except Animal Affinity, which is 3, since I only had to fight one round, I can assume I have 9 left of the rest) 1. Potion Protection From Good 2. Biofeedback 3. Potion of Blur Then Virgo swiftly moves along the path, and dares his opponent to attack. "You will find comfort knowing your family will cry when news of your gruesome death is spread all over the land. Raise your sword, Paladin, death has come knocking." |

(smitey rolls nat 20, 17+13=30 confirm, 2+3+20 = 25 damage) |
| King Uther06-09-05, 01:20 AM | Virgo smiles as he sees his opponent's pure motives. He readies for the Paladin's assault. Virgo will ready to sunder the Paladin's weapon once he closes, using all his might to destroy the Paladin's holy sword. "Do not be so hasty. You'll have an eternity to regret this decision." Virgo's Opposed Roll: (+21=+9+4size+4weapon size+4feat): 3+21=24 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=102041) If I fail, he still has to overcome my 20% miss granted by Blur. 1d100, 1-20=Miss: 88 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=102048) Dang. If the sunder is successful, (I'm guessing he has around a +8 modifier), the damage dealt is: 24 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=102044). With the hardness of 10, there is no way his weapon has 14 hp. If he follows through with the smite unarmed drawing an AoO(does a large scythe get reach? I would get an AoO anyways if it did), I will use it to Trip, him being unarmed means I do not draw an AoO. Touch Attack: (if applicable) 9+9=18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=102045) Trip Opposed: 6+11=17 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=102046) All of this doesn't matter if Sunder never happens. I am curious on how you calculated damage. I thought smite damage didn't multiply. |
| Megrim_Lord06-14-05, 07:06 PM | Virgo strikes out at the holy warrior's sword, and he looks in horror as it snaps in two. unsure of what to do next, he backs away and falls intop a full defensive, doubly bracing himself with his shield. I assumed you meant to sunder before he attacks since that's what it looks like, so he finished his move using his last 5ft of speed + a 5ft step back, he's 10ft away from Virgo's starting position on the map now |
| King Uther06-15-05, 09:02 AM | "Is that fear I see in your eyes, dear Paladin? Now that you have given in, I have no choice but to take your soul. Bleed for me!!" Virgo then dives for his opponent's throat, trying to tear it out. Virgo moves in to grapple, manifesting Grip of Iron, for a +18 grapple bonus. The 1d6+5 plus 1d6 armor spikes damage should be enough to kill him pretty quickly. If I succeed at grappling, grapple out the encounter, but only use Grip of Iron if he seems to be getting lucky. If something goes awry, I'll change my tactic. |
| King Uther06-15-05, 12:48 PM | I forgot I roll my own stuff. Virgo grins at the Paladin, and drops his scythe. He then lunges at the Paladin, hoping to end this ridiculous fight. "Your death is but a formality. It was already going to happen. Give up now and the pain will be...less." (Touch attack: 5+8=13 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104378) , Success) Virgo grabs the Paladin's arms, trying to slam him into the ground with his armor spike, using his mental strength to boost him. (Opposed Grapple: 15+18=33 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104379) vs ???) I assume it is near impossible for him to beat this. The Paladin's arms begin to stretch and bones begins to crack as Virgo pushes his spine into the ground. (Damage: 1d6+7+1d6+2d6(psionic fist)=17 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104380) ) Grapple for him escaping or trying to damage me: 27 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104381) Grapple the next round to damage: 29 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104382) , Damage: 2d6+7=14 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104383) Him escaping again and me resisting: 31(with no Grip of Iron) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104384) Grapple for damage next round: 15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104385) If it succeeds, Damage: 17 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104386) Him escaping: 16 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104387) If I fail and he escapes, regrapple, otherwise, the next grapple is for damage: Touch attack: 6+8=14 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104388) Opposed grapple: 30 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104390) , Damage: 15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104391) |

Virgo relishes in his victory as he notes the paladin's valuable and useful gauntlets... Virgo acquires the paladins gauntlets of Ogre Power +2 Unfortunately before he can put them on they disappear from his grasp and the loud orc's voice rings out again. (Attack: 12+9=21 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104560) , Damage: 21 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=104561) If Virgo loses initiative and gets attacked, roll really well and cleave him in two. | Megrim_Lord06-16-05, 03:04 PM | Virgo notices that his double prepares himself in the same manner as he grows much larger, matching his own size. Unfortunately, his double is somewhat quicker to react, and charges Virgo, attacking him at reach length with his scythe and biting into his should, but Virgo ignores the pain and delivers an equally damaging blow, it seems they are both evenly matched, as would be expected. Smiling, he returns the scythe blow, determined to end this imaginary enemy. "Death comes for us all, even me." After the Double goes, if he misses, Virgo swings his scythe once more, downing this supposed equal. | Megrim_Lord06-18-05, 08:30 AM | The double does indeed miss virgo, who counters with a painful strike. The double swings again but still cannot seem to hit Virgo at all, but this time virgo misses as well, raking the floor and sending sparks flying about the arena. The double rears back for one more blow, looking to finish this match quickly. He swings down looking to cleave virgo in two, but virgo is ready and easily dodges the attack, countering with a sweeping blow at the head, decapitating his double. cutting his own head off seems like it should be more disturbing, but for some reason it doesn't phase him all that much. The booming orc voice rings out one more time. "WELL DONE! You have exceeded all expectations the clergy of hextor have had of you. We will heal you and send you on your way, expect to hear from us" With that Virgo suddenly feels as if he is surging with energy, akin to being healed and having rested all at once as his surroundings disappear... Virgo reappears in his quarters at the EHTC, an arrow with a note and a sack full of something stabbed to his door. Looking at the note, it is plainly written in blood "I Dursk Ironclaw, leader of the Gladius chapter of the Clerics of Hextor, hereby swear allegiance to the EHTC and offer myself or my men and all our services in your cause" The sack however is laden with gold and a certain pair of gauntlets... Virgo gains 5333 xp, Gauntlets of Ogre Power, and 4533 gp, someone check my math here because it looks right but I could have sworn cat said something different |
| Sunwolf06-18-05, 03:24 PM | I'll take a stab at the quest reward: XP for a EL5 long quest is 4500 + 33% = 6000 Gold reward for a EL5 quest is 6400 Quest targets count for full price. So total reward should be 6000xp and +2 guantlets and 2400gp. This assumes all encounters were EL5. Adjust if that is not true. |
| King Uther06-18-05, 05:38 PM | A question I have is in the event of questing for an item, is the 3/4 rule for treasure applied? |
| King Uther06-18-05, 05:48 PM | Oh, and since Virgo is ECL 4, his experience per battle would be 1600, meaning the total xp reward would be 6400. |
| Caterane06-21-05, 03:04 PM | Encounter 1 (Cr 4): 1200 xp, 1200 gp Encounter 2 (Cr 5): 1600 xp, 1600 gp Encounter 3 (Cr 5): 1600 xp, 1600 gp ------------------------------------ Encounter Rewards: 4400 xp, 4400 gp Quest Bonus (33%): 1452 xp, 1452 gp ------------------------------------ Total Quest Reward: 5852 xp, 5852 gp |
| King Uther06-21-05, 03:14 PM | Stupid CR 4 badguys. Now I have to edit my sheet. |
| Megrim_Lord06-22-05, 04:41 PM | and that concludes the quest, questions, comments, and suggestions all taken via pm :D Questlog: Week 1: Virgo fights death incarnate, but soon realizes it is more aptly named 'dead' incarnate Week 2: Virgo's commie-like worst enemy turns out to be a socialist pansy in disguise Week 3: Virgo finds that the temple's reproduction of himself isn't very accurate- it dies too easy, loot and lackeys acquired. |
