I think that a challenge adds to the fun and flavor of the arena and that it should be put before rolling out for odd numbers. The problem is that sometimes, after one of the players has leveled up, the two might never meet again at the same level. This would mean that they could never challenge each other again. This waste of an opportunity is disturbing me a little. Those players that take the time to roleplay their characters should atleast be awarded a little for their efforts. Besides, challenges are what makes the arena even more entertaining and this would be a good way to encourage them. |

It doesn't reward good roleplaying, its more likely to punish powerful characters, since no-one will want to challenge them (and remember the stated primary purpose of the arena is to test good builds, not good roleplaying). Most of the time if you arrange a challenge, it will take place, but making sure everyone has a fair chance to fight definitely should come first. |
