ok, the COCO rules say that cohorts use the 25 point buy method for determining attributes. what other rules are there for the cohorts in the arena?
for example, do i assign them the standard wealth per level or the npc wealth per level? can they gain prestige-classes? (a pity the bodyguard prc isnīt core. ) what happens if the cohort is slain? is it resurrected for free, like a piece of equipment?

Cohorts gain no gold of there own, and have no equipment. The gladiator must provide all Eq used by the cohort.

If they die, they are restored for free.

Currently, there is no penalty for you cohort being killed, but a possible system has been discussed to impose negatives to leadership should the cohort die in the arena.

What about the flat -2 to your leadership score for the incredible danger of the arena? I recall that being proposed and liking it because it made having a positive charisma modifier worthwhile.

@Snark - I think we should use the flat modifier instead of temporary negative effects. I'll ask Cat to poll the Elder 8 and we can vote it into effect.

I would also favor the flat -2, as high CHA builds, like Candy, could still get the best Cohorts, and not need fear the cohort being killed.

they come without equipment? you mean naked? how did they reach their level without equipment?
i donīt want to divide my own equipment between two characters; that would make me considerably less powerful than my opponent.
Iīm not asking for high-level equipment for the cohort, but just for adequate equipment for an npc of his level (which should already be quite lower than the ECL of the real combattants for being an npc and for being two levels+ lower.).
Under these conditions, the leadership feat is rendered useless.

[Edit:] and please, stop thinking about making cohorts attractive for one character class only (the sorcerers).

Unfortunatly, the naked cohort is a neccessaty, or the Leadership feat would create an infinate gold loop possibility, and characters could gain a cohort, have it sell its eq, then dismis the cohort, get a new one, sell its eq, dismiss it... so forth and so on.

Candy has had her cohort for 3 levels now, (she isen't a sorc, btw) and has found that having to buy her cohort's Eq is hardly a penalty at all for all the success it has brought her. She has not lost a fight that her cohort was in yet.

And also, all other atainable allies come without equipment, even monsters, which by MM rules would have random treasure and gold. So this only keeps cohorts on the same playing field as other allies.

She hasn't ever fought a ghost, either...

And I agree with MotherBast on the naked cohort thing.

Hatzinger: That would depend on *their* Cha.
