| Caterane11-06-05, 04:47 PM | Discussion This is a discussion for everyone. I want on the one hand your opinion, and on the other I want to see if it has a chance to work. I will propose two different (independent from each other) ideas. 1: Free Campaigns We've mentioned it before, and I think we should discuss it again. With free campaigns I mean that characters on Campaigns are not considered active. That would have several effects. The positive effect I hope to see is that there would be more active characters in the arena since your 2 free Slots are not occupied with Campaign PCs. My first question: will that be the case? The negative effect is what kept me from making campaigns free. If those 22 Pcs on campaigns are free, some new 20 might appear on the roster to fight in the arena. Question: Can we support them? We already had Pitlord troubles in the last 2 weeks. Please give me feedback about the campaigns. Does your active campaigning character have an impact on the number of PCs you activate for the arena? Or none at all? 2: Frozen Active PCs This idea came when I realized that I can never play Harvester II again because he's already level 20 and we won't go epic. That line of thought extended to include my other frozen PCs who won't see the light within the next year either which is sad. Even when a very few other PCs reach my level, I could have one or two matches against them and that's it. Then I had an idea. What if we introduce something like "Frozen Quests" and "Frozen Campaigns". That means, you can play your frozen character normally but you do not gain any XP nor Gold, but you also don't lose items (will basically be refunded). The Questlord just writes under 'Items Used' <None>, no matter what the PC spent. Such Quests and Campaigns would be purely roleplaying then but it would allow you to play them at least. What do you think? |
| One_Winged_Angel11-06-05, 05:00 PM | 1: Hmmm...I don't have a say either way. I've never participated in a campaign. It seems to me like if we already have pitlord trouble, it might not be such a hot idea to send too many off on a campaign without penalty. As for number 2... YES!!! Mystic and I were bummed when we found out Kage and Pard are basically gonna see no action and we were hoping to start a quest with them. When we found out we couldn't, it kinda sucked. I don't know about everyone else, but I'd be happy just to get Kage in action again. I know Mystic is itchin' for some caster kills. :) I'd be happy with no rewards or penalties imposed. I'd even be happy if it counted as one of my active characters. Kage has basically been a relic for a while now. Sure, he's the highest pure fighter around, but what's the good if I can't demonstrate to the newer players? ;) Besides, I've heard too many "Fighters are underpowered, ph33|2 my 1337 k4zz70|2" lately. And my other gladiators, while fun, don't have Kage's history. Since it really has no bearing other than time on the part of players, I don't see an issue. Unless we start drawing questlords too much, there isn't really a shortage of people. |
| Iced11-06-05, 05:07 PM | I think that campaigners should be able to have two arena characters without incurring the extra credit cost, but if shortage of pitlords comes around their characters sit first. For example: player a has two active characters and nobody doing anything else player b has two active and a third on campaign player a should get paired before player b, and if there arn't enough pitlords to cover all of the fights then b sits a character. I have no problem with rp for frozen characters as long as there are quest/campaignlords who want to run them. |
| Pittbull11-06-05, 05:11 PM | 1: I have no problem with campaign-characters being active. You'll need a credit to bring in a second arena-fighting character, so run an extra fight this week, this solves the pitlordsproblem. But one thing, I would change, is: If you've two characters on campaigns, only one counts as active. 2: YES, I like this idea, if there are questlords or campaignlords, who like to put their work in it, why not? These characters shouldn't count as active, too. I think it's a good idea to add some flavor in Gladius' great history. |
| Usurpator11-06-05, 05:23 PM | 1. Free campaigns: yes. I am for keeping the upfront cost (which encourages Pitlording), but not for characters on campaigns to be considered as active. It also takes some of the pressure of campaignlords, since campaigns are so long there are bound to be 'slow weeks'. What I would like to suggest is that your first two campaigning are free of 'upkeep', but if you want to have more characters campaigning, they should pay credits. I have already seen new Pitlords stepping up, we'll just have to see if there will be a serious shortage of Pitlords. If so, either non-pitlording members will hopefully step up, or others who repeatedly get fights held over will set less gladiators to active. 2. Nor problem with that in theory, I have no frozen characters, but if it adds to the enjoyment of members, sure. I do think it will bring a serious number of issues, use of expendables, death and XP loss among them. A quest where the frozen quester empties his staff of fire each quest only to get refunded a brand new one after the quest might be a problem. In long campaigns where PCs are supposed to level once or more may also pose a problem for the frozen campaigner. |
| Huan11-06-05, 07:09 PM | 1: Feedback: My character in the campaign does not influence my choice to play my characters in the Arena. Rather, the number of people in my league influences it. It gets rather quiet in the upper active leagues, and I myself have not really touched my characters there since there are really no new faces. The inclusion of more fighting PCs will certainly help progress the speed by which the leagues open and the number of people graduating to those upper level leagues. So, I must say having campaigning chars does not affect the number of charcters I play, just which ones. However, seeing as 22 people participating in campaigns and perhaps opening more fighting PCs is a rather large number (practically a league of their own), I am not confident the current Pitlord populus can handle it all at once, but we can see. I suggest giving it a month-trial. Let us see first how many new fights flood the market. If we do not see too many complications, then we should keep it. Iced's suggestion is interesting, but if the higher number of fights means a character has to sit out anyway, then there was no point (no new fighting means no progress made). Iced's suggestion's strong point, however, is that it does allow the POSSIBILITY of more characters, while still providing a net should things get too out-of-hand (and for that we should seriously consider it). Again, I say allow Free Campaigning, but keep it under observation of any problems. 2: Now, while there does not seem to be a shortage of Questlords, whether they are willing/able to handle a higher-level quest is a question we can best answer by opening the market (I forsee no problems, however, if the popularity of Questlording remains steady). In short, I fully support this endeavor. Speaking for myself I have no problem running a Quest of any level, especially for RP reasons (so you can count me in as a Questlord for frozen characters). Also, may I suggest that since only RP is being incurred (no harm, no foul with running about with no consequence of gain or loss), the unfrozen PCs intended only for RP questing not be counted as active against the Player. (The Questlords, naturally, still should gain weekly credits for their generous efforts) |
| Guildmaster (CEF)11-06-05, 07:16 PM | Hm, so you think we should enable those "Roleplay Quests/Campaigns" also for non-frozen PCs? |
| nightbanegod11-06-05, 07:25 PM | wow, didnt think i would spark a whole new thread... ohh well lets see how it goes... will post my opinions on said options after i run my fights for this week... |
| Huan11-06-05, 11:16 PM | Hm, so you think we should enable those "Roleplay Quests/Campaigns" also for non-frozen PCs? Hmm... Well, since it is of absolutely no consequence to anything 'material' (except the Questlord, who gains credits), and the benefit for the character is only more RP... I say yes, we should enable it. It might promote more character expansion and people playing their characters with ways other than the Arena. It would be like the old Roleplay thread, only better. (Perhaps the upcoming Guilds can find use for it, as well.) |
| Sindorin11-07-05, 12:01 AM | My response to this is very predictable... 1. HELL YES. This is mainly because I am one who has two characters on campaigns currently, and I am getting tired of being here struggling to maintain a decent credit balance while trying to develop new ideas for my characters. To go even further, I think we should have free campaign characters in a similar way to how we have two free active characters per week. They simply wouldn't overlap (and I add this to emphasize the maniacs who would go for three or four campaigns). The arena would definitely have at least two more active pcs every week... namely mine. 2. This sounds fun but my highest pc is 11th level. I don't ever plan on bringing him back, but I do understand why people would miss playing their beloved creations. It would be nothing but a good thing since it is in the frozen levels and they won't be gaining stuff. If anything, it will be a healthy preview for the inexperienced at how a high ecl campaign works. |
| MysticMonk200511-07-05, 12:51 AM | YES YES YES YES YES YES Hmmm did I stress yes enough? Probly not. Free campains would have no effect on my characters in the arena untill level 11 is free. At which point Pard may or may not fight depending on whether he is in campain. But Lissa will probly keep fighting. And once Pard can Arena fight again Im probly guna retire her and make a retry an old build of mine.(Pittbull might remember it) Any ways uhh... just look at the top of my post and multiply that by infinity.(Note these yes's are in reply to issue 2: Frozen Quest/Campaign) |
| Luni11-07-05, 01:05 AM | About free campaigns. How about each campaign costs 1/2° each, rounded down. So if someone is on two campaigns, they pay 1°. |
| Iced11-07-05, 01:31 AM | Running quests/Campaigns for high-level frozen characters can only help the CoCo's storyline. In addition it will give campaign/qustlords an opportunity to come up with interesting high-powered encounters. I'm all for enhancing rp and creativity in the CoCo. I've heard no opposition for quests and campaigns in the frozen leagues so i'm hoping you all agree with me. |
| Book511-07-05, 02:18 AM | 1. eh not really - but doesnt bother me none either way. 2. as long as you having fun why not. |
| Maraxus11-07-05, 03:11 AM | I'm allready thinking about a 3rd character anyway, if this would be free of credits, he would definitly come (thought I do not yet have "the idea"TM). |
| TelinArtho11-07-05, 09:20 AM | I have no opinion about the Frozen Quest/Campaigns as I do not have characters at that level. If I did, I would still want to play them on occasion - so being able to do so here would be nice, I'm sure. About the free campaigns - I think it would be beneficial to allow it. First of all, there aren't that many campaigns yet and I think part of the problem with joining one is the commitment of one of your free slots towards one. I had no problems with spending the credit/week until I was involved in a campaign that essentially did nothing for 7 weeks before dissolving. Now that its gone - it left a bitter taste in my mouth. From looking at a few of the other campaigns, they tend to progress a little (sometimes a lot) slower than "real time" in Gladius - so the players in the campaign aren't getting as much credit out of their credits - which might be a bit of the deterrent. Anyway - I think the campaign characters should be free - or perhaps just the first character should be (and then beyond that you would pay extra if you have more than 2 gladiators active). |
| SoulLord11-07-05, 10:10 AM | I also agree with #1 and #2 but since they are bothe pitlord drains I would suggest that first one option is taken and then the other the following week. I know we have had pitlord shortages and this options do not aleviate the situation. |
| King Uther11-08-05, 03:12 AM | I love the frozen quest option. It gives me the itch to finish Agaroth so Kelek and him can do some damage. Plus, it would keep Kelek's level manageable so he could quest with the other 3 when we all rise there, hopefully in the next year. About free campaigns: I...........will choose to respond later. |
