| Caterane09-08-04, 07:56 PM | Hey hey hey |
| Magagumo09-08-04, 09:08 PM | Tactics for Crest sent to Myrridin, Tori's tactics will be sent to Cat (Note to Beldin- Tori has one less PWP does, but the other is still on an arrow, she also has a few less arrows and a few less CLW wand chgs. I forgot to update from the last fight, but I don't think it matters tremendously). Since I have two fights, and a busy weekend, it would be ncie to get at least one set by Friday, so that I can get it out of the way :). Good luck to all this week. |
| Caterane09-08-04, 10:18 PM | The 'How to harvest an ogre' Guide has been sent to Ashenai LOL Wow, I have only 1 of 6 characters active this week |
| Zerone09-08-04, 10:46 PM | Jin Szen's tactics have been sent to Beldin. Let's get it on Sindorin! :smirk: |
| Sindorin09-08-04, 11:52 PM | Jin Szen's tactics have been sent to Beldin. Let's get it on Sindorin! :smirk: lol, I am drugged up because I caught a head cold, so writing tactics wouldn't be wise for me right now... I will write them from school tomorrow mornin'. It should be an interesting fight, seeing how YOU'RE A WIZARD and I'M A SORCERER... Note to Master B that I originally was making Ara into a wilder and then changed my mind to making her a sorcereress and I forgot to correct her AC, it should just be 11, not 15 like it is displayed. It was the gnomes. My tactics are probably going to be pretty simple, it will probably end up being a race to see who color sprays the other first :D... Or maybe Sokai Calanis's lost lover has other things in mind... **Spooky Music** Also, Zerone, good luck with your red wizard ;) once Jin gets up to level 6 Tair Malek won't be the only one anymore, and maybe you'll do it without deciding to do it late and taking it a level or two behind like Tair did. hehehe... I swear one of these days I am going to remake my Evoker... Tair is just chock full of mistakes, I am glad we froze level eight. oh well. Anyway, now that my doped up rant is complete I am going to crash. Tactics tomorrow, yo |
| Caterane09-09-04, 04:21 AM | Tactics for Archangel Ixenthor sent to Zerone |
| El_Jaguaro09-09-04, 08:57 AM | I see i forgot to make Jaguaro active. If Cellardwellar wishes to fight i can do that as long as we get a pitlord, otherwise i guess i'll wait. The Jag |
| Magagumo09-09-04, 09:43 AM | Just to ensure it was seen... is it possible for Rain & Ban'zanifal (the silverless warrior ;)) to get a pitlord for a fight between them this week? |
| Beldin09-09-04, 09:57 AM | @ mag, I can take that fight, if noone else wants to, and do it on monday. But detailed tactics for Ban'zanifal - uhm...psionics ;) |
| Pittbull09-09-04, 10:09 AM | @Tellish: Tactics for Angosh have been sent via E-mail. Thanks |
| Sindorin09-09-04, 10:48 AM | Tactics for Ara have been sent to Beldin. Sorc vs Wizard, enjoy. ~Sindorin |

| Magagumo09-09-04, 03:35 PM | Rhaeger recieved. I will gladly explain the exact range, duration, and effects of any used powers, Beldin, you have my promise. (I actually include the majority of my info in my sheet as well, just to make it easy on Mods & opponents :)) |
| Beldin09-09-04, 05:40 PM | ok, Battousai and magagumo send me tactics and I will run the fight (on monday) @pitlords: please add that fight to the pairings |
| SnarkHunter09-09-04, 06:11 PM | The 'How to harvest an ogre' Guide has been sent to Ashenai LOL :bored: So you think you're ready to play with fire? Well... get ready for the...thing...that fire...does. ... RAWR! Also, tactics recieved for Cyric. I thought I had another set but thats the only one I can find right now. Everyone please try to e-mail them by Friday. |
| Pitlords09-09-04, 10:15 PM | Ban'zanifal (Magagumo) vs Rain (Battousai2005): Beldin has been added to the roster. Beldin gains one credit, Mag loses one, no change to Battousai's account. @ElJaguaro: Write a PM to cellardweller. If he agrees, I'll pitlord your fight. @Snark: I have protection from fire :P |
| cellardweller09-10-04, 01:32 AM | Vandameer is ok to fight should you desire it. |
| Ashenai09-10-04, 10:59 AM | Tactics sent for Moksha Jehannum (to Magagumo), and Ex Nihilo (to Cat). Tactics received for the Harvester (2nd avatar). Tactics not yet received for Donkey. |
| SnarkHunter09-10-04, 12:35 PM | Tactics not yet received for Donkey. I was waiting to hear something from Cat, but I'll send you what I've got now. Edit: Tactics sent, and now it's personal. |
| Pitlords09-10-04, 01:20 PM | Jaguar (El_Jaguaro) vs Vandameer Black (Cellardweller): Caterane has been added to the roster! Caterane gains one credit, Cellardweller loses one, no change to El_Jaguaro's account. |
| kattattack2209-10-04, 01:53 PM | Arkin's tactics sent to Tellish of Ket via email. @Pittbull - Jesus! 141 HP! That's not even raging! Angosh might get revenge on Arkin this time around. |
| Kaigan09-10-04, 06:26 PM | Zent tactiZ to Zerone |
| Zerone09-10-04, 08:34 PM | Archangel Ixenthor (Caterane) hunts a Deinonychos - Tactics received... Eiletha Surion (Kaigan) - Tactics received... Ragnarr (scaryfroman) - - Tactics not received... |
| MysticMonk200509-10-04, 09:08 PM | tactics for Drahc vs Shadovar sent by email. PM me if you don't get them. |
| cellardweller09-10-04, 10:41 PM | Jaguar (El_Jaguaro) vs Vandameer Black (Cellardweller): Caterane has been added to the roster! Caterane gains one credit, Cellardweller loses one, no change to El_Jaguaro's account. Appologies to El_jaguaro if he has already done his tactics, but I am going to have to recind. It is going to take me a couple of hours to produce tactics to fight a druid (sorry I didn't look before I agreed) - this is time that I don't have this weekend due to work commitments. |
| Pitlords09-11-04, 12:09 AM | :/ I probably should've left that part with 'losing a credit' out |
| Druid Roxors09-11-04, 03:41 AM | Tactics for Demon Lord Themmez Sent. |
| SnarkHunter09-11-04, 08:33 AM | Tactics for Themez not recieved, please try again good sir. |
| cellardweller09-11-04, 08:57 AM | @Cellar: Shade does not have the Improved Unarmed Strike feat thus you can't have the Improved Grapple feat. Natural weapons do not qualify as a substitute. This was discussed in the tavern late May. The decision was that NA's can substitute for INA. It was based the fact that none of the monsters with NA's that take INA dependent feats have the INA feat. |
| Caterane09-11-04, 01:06 PM | This was discussed in the tavern late May. The decision was that NA's can substitute for INA. It was based the fact that none of the monsters with NA's that take INA dependent feats have the INA feat. I completely missed that discussion that Natural attacks qualify as a Improved Unarmed Strike substitute. What was the reasoning again? I mean, it's CLEARLY written that IUS is a prerequisite for imprpved grapple. IUS is like knowing martial arts. Just because I have a bite or a hoof attack doesn't mean I can wrestle. |
| Market_Share09-11-04, 01:09 PM | I don't think that was the discusion. I believe the "erroneous/biassed" discussion was that IUS qualified for INA, not that any creature with natural weapons have the equivalent of IUS. Spike |
| Beldin09-11-04, 02:11 PM | @mag: tactics received and understood @bat: tactics not received |
| MotherBast09-11-04, 03:58 PM | CAT: The reasoning was that all monstors in the MM that have natural attacks and IUS dependent feats such as improved grapple did not take the IUS feat, so it seemed obvious that for creatures with natural attacks available, the IUS feat wasen't necessary to obtain its dependent feats. |
| Caterane09-12-04, 12:09 AM | CAT: The reasoning was that all monstors in the MM that have natural attacks and IUS dependent feats such as improved grapple did not take the IUS feat, so it seemed obvious that for creatures with natural attacks available, the IUS feat wasen't necessary to obtain its dependent feats. Uh, MOTHERBAST, I couldn't find a monster with the Improved grapple feat. You surely don't confuse it with Improved Grab which is something completely different and has nothing to do with the feat. It even has a different name. So please MOTHERBAST, show me this monster. CAT |
| Magagumo09-12-04, 12:57 AM | Bebilth (Demon). Just used it today, Cat :). (By the way, props on dedication for that Tori v. Delayar fight... I'm curious of how it will end..) Edit: Also barbed devils Edit 2: I only have Moksha and Rhaegar's tactics; not Kesaron and Sildaris. Both are Myrridin's, but I know he's been busy with work and such. I'd like to run them tomorrow, but will conceivably wait until Monday, given the circumstances (I'd really prefer them for tomorrow, as I have some big assignments to get rdy for...) |
| Beldin09-12-04, 11:09 AM | cat, looks like you had some fun with the fight  But I did not want to use phantom steed and/or polymorph myself and my familiar. :( |
| Caterane09-12-04, 02:09 PM | But I did not want to use phantom steed and/or polymorph myself and my familiar You didn't bring in the phantom steed (nor could you, with the familiar already being one ally) and I didn't polymorph you but only your familiar. Sorry but I don't know what you mean; I followed your tactic to the letter. Mag & Beldin, I want to hear a solution from both of you. Both your tactics have broken down (or better: ran out) so please tell me now what your characters are going to do so that I can finish the fight. I have not received tactics from Myrridin. |
| Beldin09-12-04, 02:19 PM | (nor could you, with the familiar already being one ally) uhm, I remember the prof bringing both in the arena... I yust wanted to say that the fight would have been much shorter if I had used the standard "poly self and familiar" tactic or the "super movement and full attack/cast spell phantom steed" tactic. everyone knows how effective and succesfull they are. |
| Magagumo09-12-04, 02:33 PM | I've sent my finishing tactics to Cat... nothing too surprising given the circumstances. |
| Beldin09-12-04, 03:57 PM | I've sent my finishing tactics to Cat. still no tactics from Battousai |
| Caterane09-12-04, 04:50 PM | (nor could you, with the familiar already being one ally) uhm, I remember the prof bringing both in the arena... I yust wanted to say that the fight would have been much shorter if I had used the standard "poly self and familiar" tactic or the "super movement and full attack/cast spell phantom steed" tactic. everyone knows how effective and succesfull they are. No, the Professor has never used his familiar when using the Phantom Steed. And for your tactics, here's what you wrote: 11: cast polymorph on Cattricken: Gray Render, move slowly up to conceal my position (Cattricken will go hunting ) 12: cast a targeted dispel magic on him, move away 13: rapid full attack him You clearly said polymorph on Cattricken and if that isn't clear enough already, the 'send him hunting' (which would've dismissed the polymorph as soon as Cattricken leaves your reach) and the 'rapid full attack' (using your bow and your 24 Dex instead of the Grey Renders Dex 8) makes it 100% clear what your intent was. And I followed it perfectly. Also, I'm pretty sure that your tactics didn't include the Phantom steed. Asides from it not being mentioned even once; you even wrote what to bring into the arena ("0: bring in Cattricken, my toad and the potion of invisiblity in one of my hands."), you couldn't erect the globe with the mount because it takes up all squares so that you can't summon the archons. Our prefight discussion confirms this even further and you also wrote "fly up a little, cast summon monster v: 1d3 lantern archons" to fly up and make space for the archons. Beldin, I'm pretty sure I didn't interpret it wrong. If so, I apologize but everything in your mail sounds exactly like I ran it. |
| Caterane09-12-04, 05:10 PM | I've received both your tactics and they both won't work. The Take 10 rule makes Tori effectively invincible while Tori cannot reach Delayar. I will make a decision now and end the fight the old way: without the take 10 rule; to hell with it! |
| Zerone09-12-04, 05:16 PM | Ragnarr (scaryfroman) - Tactics still not received... How long do I wait for scaryfroman's and what happens if there are no tactics sent? |
| Magagumo09-12-04, 05:25 PM | Generally, our deadline has been Frisay ro Saturday evening, and the approved practice is to run the fight using only the most rudimentary tactics for the defaulting player (I would look at any past fights he's been in or see if he has listed Default tactics). |
| Caterane09-12-04, 07:06 PM | *Sigh* It's done. |
| Magagumo09-12-04, 07:19 PM | *Jaw drops* That was one of the most insane and tension-ridden two rounds I've seen in awhile.... Wow, simply wow. |
| Zerone09-12-04, 10:32 PM | I posted Ixidor vs Finx (Deinonychus), but was unable to quote Caterane's character sheet? I could copy/paste, but when I went to add 'quote' or to copy/paste a quote it said, "Please make your post more than 2 characters long"??? Any ideas why? Zerone |
| Jindl09-12-04, 11:54 PM | Re: Rhoar vs Spike There is a substantial mistake recurring throughout the fight. I'm sorry, I would have mentioned this earlier, but I have been out of town these last 3 days (during which the fight was posted). Spike cannot both deflect arrows and use a full attack with a two handed weapon, unless he has the quick draw feat (and he doesn't). To deflect arrows, Spike must remove one hand from his two handed weapon (his bow, in this case), which he can do as a free action at the end of his turn. However, before firing the bow again, he must spend a move action to re-equip his two handed weapon again. Thus he will be limited to firing a single arrow each turn. Market Share realized this, which is why he even wrote this in his tactics. This has occurred and been discussed in previous fights (I remember some of Brock's fights specifically). Because of this error, Spike was allowed to fire many more arrows than he should have, while deflecting an arrow from Rhoar each round. Keep in mind that Rhoar's arrows deal 2d6+11 damage per hit. This is a substantial difference, and one that I believe would change the outcome of the fight. Druid, could you please take a look at this? -Jindl |
| KerlanRayne09-13-04, 12:14 AM | I yust wanted to say that the fight would have been much shorter if I had used the standard "poly self and familiar" tactic or the "super movement and full attack/cast spell phantom steed" tactic. everyone knows how effective and succesfull they are. I think he just means that he could have used those two tactics for an easy win, but decided to try something else. KerlanRayne |
| Beldin09-13-04, 05:33 AM | hmmpf, why did you ask for new tactics then... Jin vs Ara (elc 2) is posted. @Kerlan: yes, thats what I meant. @battousai: tactics received, fight this evening |
| Zerone09-13-04, 09:00 AM | Eiletha vs. Ragnarr is posted. There were many mistakes on both character sheets. I took the liberty of editing the necessary changes for the fight, but they are not permanent. However, I do not know what to say about the incorrect ability scores… I noted all the errors in red on the character sheets after the fight, on the same post. Zerone |
| Sindorin09-13-04, 09:39 AM | heh heh good fight, zerone... back to the drawing board. I considered using color spray instead of the firebal but i didnt expect you to make the reflex save so fireball felt better. ay, now I can remake my evoker or try something else. Well done! |
| Zerone09-13-04, 09:46 AM | All I can say is, "When my horse jumped, so did I..." :smirk: Good luck on your future characters... I'm sure I'll see them around... Zerone |
| Druid Roxors09-13-04, 09:59 AM | Re: Rhoar vs Spike There is a substantial mistake recurring throughout the fight. I'm sorry, I would have mentioned this earlier, but I have been out of town these last 3 days (during which the fight was posted). The fight was posted Wednessday as promised (Central). Revisions for the tactics were posted in the preliminary post Monday. I asked both players to verify each other's tactics for the red ink, Nevertheless, I will correcty any mistake that should be. Spike cannot both deflect arrows and use a full attack with a two handed weapon, unless he has the quick draw feat (and he doesn't). ... Druid, could you please take a look at this? -JindlA bow is not wielded in two hands. Although a two-handed weapon. One of the hands wields the bow while the other wields the arrow. once the full attack is resolved, his hand is effectively empty. If I remember correctly, this was the way Ixidor Vs Tori was resolved a few months back. Tori Readied against Ixidor to negate his deflect arrows and nobody had a problem with it (Namely Caterane). I would like to get some input from others on this issue. |
| Caterane09-13-04, 11:05 AM | hmmpf, why did you ask for new tactics then... Both your new tactics didn't work. Tori wanted to hide until the end of days, and Delayar wanted to attack enlarged from 20ft away which wasn't possible since you won't spot or hear her with take 10. I was at a loss at this point and hoped that one of you comes up with something like "I drop my darkness" which alters the setting, just so that it wouldn't be me who makes this decision. It didn't happen though and I had to make a decision. In the end, it was pure luck that decided the outcome. To deflect arrows, Spike must remove one hand from his two handed weapon (his bow, in this case), which he can do as a free action at the end of his turn. However, before firing the bow again, he must spend a move action to re-equip his two handed weapon again. I see no mistake here. Spike fullattacks with the bow, then gets one hand off of it to deflect arrows. And where does it say that you have to re-equip the bow? |
| Jindl09-13-04, 11:40 AM | A bow is a two handed weapon. It requires two hands to wield a two handed weapon. Thus you don't have a hand free to deflect arrows with. The rules would be the same if it were a heavy crossbow, a two handed sword, or a quarterstaff. If it is a two handed weapon, then it requires both hands to wield. Taking your hand off the bow so that you have a hand free to deflect arrows is a free action. However, during this time, the bow is not wielded, it is merely being held in one hand. To use the bow again, you have to wield it, which is a move action (unless you have quick draw). So you cannot full attack with it, because you had to spend a move action to wield it. MarketShare understood this perfectly which is why he even explained it in his tactics. This is the right way to do it, and it is the way it was done in the past (ask Tellish, he'll confirm that it was done this way in Brock's fights). A bow is a two handed weapon. Nothing says that it has the special property of allowing you to keep a hand free (like a lance does when mounted, or a light crossbow does with a penalty, or a sling does when firing). You don't have a hand free unless you are only holding the bow, in which case its not wielded, and you have to spend a move action to wield it again (unless you have quick draw). -Jindl |
| Caterane09-13-04, 11:48 AM | Jindl, this is surely not true. If I wield a greatsword or a scythe I can take it in one hand and cast a spell, then attack with it normally next round. Where in the PHB does it say that you have to use a move action to get it back into both hands? And please, don't quote 'draw a weapon' because the weapon is already drawn. |
| Jindl09-13-04, 11:50 AM | Jindl, this is surely not true. If I wield a greatsword or a scythe I can take it in one hand and cast a spell, then attack with it normally next round. Where in the PHB does it say that you have to use a move action to get it back into both hands? And please, don't quote 'draw a weapon' because the weapon is already drawn. That's just it, a two handed weapon is not drawn if it is held in one hand. |
| Caterane09-13-04, 01:29 PM | Jindl, forget it! Draw a weapon means drawing a sheathed weapon. Someone holding a weapon in one hand surely need not use a move action to get both hands back on it. That's complete nonsense. |
| Magagumo09-13-04, 02:01 PM | Personally, I'm going to agree with Cat here- it's not impossible to hold a 2-handed weapon in 1-hand (likely resting the point/end on the ground), but it is obviously unusuable in such a state. However, it is a simple action to bring it back to bear upon your opponent, and I don't believe it would require a move action to ready it as such. |
| Jindl09-13-04, 02:24 PM | Here's the old rule from 3.0. It seems to support the idea that it is a free action to put your hand back on the two handed weapon you are already holding in one hand. If this is the consensus, then I'll drop my complaint about the fight. -Jindl Suppose Gruntharg the barbarian carries a longspear and wears spiked gauntlets. He has a throwing axe at his belt. He encounters two orcs 60 feet away and wins initiative. For his action, Gruntharg draws the axe and moves and also readies an action to throw the axe at any orc that comes within 15 feet. The orcs charge. As soon as the first orc gets within 15 feet, Gruntharg throws the axe and kills that orc. After throwing the axe, is Gruntharg assumed to be carrying and wielding the longspear in both hands? Thus, does he get an attack of opportunity as the surviving orc passes from 10 feet away from him to 5 feet away? (Gruntharg does not possess the Monkey Grip feat from Sword and Fist.) If not, what are the rules for going from a one-handed (or carrying) grip to a two-handed grip for a weapon, and what kind of action is it to change this grip? Now suppose Gruntharg has the longspear in both hands when a spellcaster 5 feet away from him starts casting a spell. The longspear does not threaten the spellcaster because it’s a reach weapon and the spellcaster is too close. Can Gruntharg just let go of the longspear and smack the spellcaster with his spiked gauntlet? What kind of action is it to let go of a two-handed weapon with only one hand? Gruntharg’s action in the first example (throwing the readied axe) is possible. Presumably, Gruntharg holds the longspear in one hand, perhaps letting the shaft rest on his shoulder, or perhaps just letting the butt drag on the ground. This arrangement leaves one hand free to draw the throwing axe while moving, which Gruntharg can manage because he has at least a +1 base attack bonus. (Even a 1st-level barbarian has a +1 base attack bonus.) As a general rule, if you’re big enough to wield a weapon in two hands, you can just carry it (somehow) with one hand. The second example (an attack of opportunity against the second orc) is not possible. Holding a two-handed weapon is not the same as wielding the weapon. If Gruntharg wants to use that longspear he has been holding on his shoulder or dragging on the ground, he has to get his free hand on it. This maneuver is similar to drawing the weapon, but a little easier, since Gruntharg already has one hand on it. Therefore, it’s a free action. But Gruntharg can do this only during his own turn, and in any case, he does not threaten an area with the longspear when he’s holding it in only one hand. The third example (smacking the spellcaster with the gauntlet) is not possible as described. A spiked gauntlet is a melee weapon, and Gruntharg threatens the area around him with it, but only when he has that hand free. In the example, Gruntharg is holding the longspear with that hand, not wielding the gauntlet. He could indeed just let go of the longspear with one hand; this maneuver is the equivalent of dropping the weapon, even though he is still holding onto it with the other hand. Dropping a weapon is a free action, but you can use free actions only on your own turn. Gruntharg could shift the spear to one hand as a free action at the end of his turn, leaving one hand free to threaten the area around him with the spiked gauntlet, but then he would not threaten any area with the longspear. |
| Beldin09-13-04, 03:03 PM | Ban'zanifal vs Rain is posted I had a cool story in mind for this one but the fight took a little more time than I expected.. |
| Magagumo09-13-04, 03:33 PM | @Beldin Just for your knowledge (this caught me by surprise when Crest v. Pard) when an individual uses Improved grapple- they end that round which each person in their own respective square, but grappling. However, at the beginning of the intiator's next turn (in this case, Crest/Rain), they must enter the opponent's square. If this is not possible, due to terrain or the opponent being mounted (since the horse and opponent share the same square the grappler cannot enter as well). However, and I just realized this now, if the grappler has a move action elft (say, they grappled the mounted opponent with a std.), they can then use their move to try and "move the grapple" thus pulling the opponent from their saddle. This may allow the opponent to use their Ride chk (as they can vs. Trip) but it does get them off the mount and allow the grappling to continue the following round, rather than forcing the monk, etc. to reinitiate the grapple (in the end, the only real difference is the grappler having to make a touch attack each round, as damage is still dealt and the opponent is grappeld on their own turns.) In the end, the only surefire way to grapple is to be a remorhaz, purple worm, etc, because "Improved Grab" pulls your opponent into your square. Edit: Why did Banzanifal manifest Vigor twice? (rd 3 & 4?) Just for your knowledge, the power is still manifested if you fail the enervation check, you are simply dazed and lose power points. Also, did Ban fail his Ride checks to get +4 COver AC when Rain hit with the 24 and critted later on? Not to make a huge deal, just curious what occured at each stage, mostly because ppl keep forgetting to take the cover action with Banzanifal and it makes a difference... And did I only deal 13 damage with 2d4+5+2d6 on round 15? If so, I feel your pain on how crappy rolls made this fight go long... *sympathetic smile* |
| Zerone09-13-04, 03:45 PM | Draw or Sheathe a Weapon Drawing a weapon so that you can use it in combat, or putting it away so that you have a free hand, requires a move action. This action also applies to weapon-like objects carried in easy reach, such as wands. If your weapon or weapon-like object is stored in a pack or otherwise out of easy reach, treat this action as retrieving a stored item. If you have a base attack bonus of +1 or higher, you may draw a weapon as a free action combined with a regular move. If you have the Two-Weapon Fighting feat, you can draw two light or one-handed weapons in the time it would normally take you to draw one. Drawing ammunition for use with a ranged weapon (such as arrows, bolts, sling bullets, or shuriken) is a free action. This can be found on the online SRD, here (http://www.prodigyweb.net.mx/rodomg/actionsInCombat.html), under Move Actions. Some food for thought; rounds are 6 seconds, so letting go of a weapon, finding spell components, casting a spell, and grabing a weapon again strikes me as a little longer that 6 seconds, unless there is no M or S component... Melee and Ranged Weapons: Double Weapons: Dire flails, dwarven urgroshes, gnome hooked hammers, orc double axes, quarterstaffs, and two-bladed swords are double weapons. A character can fight with both ends of a double weapon as if fighting with two weapons, but he or she incurs all the normal attack penalties associated with two-weapon combat, just as though the character were wielding a one-handed weapon and a light weapon. The character can also choose to use a double weapon two handed, attacking with only one end of it. A creature wielding a double weapon in one hand can’t use it as a double weapon—only one end of the weapon can be used in any given round. This can be found on the online SRD, here (http://www.prodigyweb.net.mx/rodomg/weapons.html), under Weapon Catagories. This is a gray area in the rules where an individual ruling is needed for each instance; a character with high Str could lift a heavier object easier, a double weapon is weighted differently, so weilding it in one hand would be easier, etc... | Beldin09-13-04, 03:48 PM | hmm, round 3 should not exist.. yes, I forgot about the cover... oh, you should have dealt one damage more, the dice roller sais I added only 4 ;) , yes there were some good rolls... oh, and I liked the tactics - mags were easy to understand; batts ever more so |
| Magagumo09-13-04, 04:10 PM | Well I'm happy to have obliged, friend. :) And no worries on Cover, etc, I just figure if I remind each of Ban's moderators (you, Snark, and kat (?)) of his rules, you'll remember the next time you run him. Hope psionics weren't too much trouble, and feel free to glance at his ever-growing power list :D That 18d10 Mind Thrust will be good fun at lvl 20 ;) |
| Beldin09-13-04, 04:17 PM | but if they make the will safe... all those clerics, mages, and druids at that level |
| MotherBast09-13-04, 04:39 PM | Mag: About grappling a mounted character, it is possible, without moving the grapple. If you succeed on your touch attack, and establish the grapple, you move into the mount's space, effectavly mounting the mount yourself, and maintain the grapple. You are not concidered riding the mount, and should the mount move, neither you nor the rider will move with it unless the mount can carry both. |
| Magagumo09-13-04, 05:01 PM | Hmm.. I'm just quoting cat, so I'm sure there will be discussion. Rhaegar v. Kesaron is up. No tactics recieved yet surprisingly close- some erros on sheets and I'm going to adress one here: People who are buying Psionic Tattoos- yes, they are very nice and don't require a mvoe action to draw, but unless they can also be manifested on another person normally (i.e. Skate & Detect Hostile Intent to name 2 that have been used), they cost twice as much. So, your Force Screen, Off. & Def. Precog & Prescicence, Biofeedback, etc. all are costing 100 gp each, not 50 gp like a 1st lvl potion would. I have mentioned this frequently on sheets, so now everyone should be informed. Edit: Moksha v. Sildaris run as well. 2 Fights, 2 hrs.. not a bad bit of work. Unsurprisingly, tactics are key to winning, though there were some surprises here as well... |
| cellardweller09-13-04, 09:07 PM | Re: Eiletha vs. Ragnarr Failing the CL check to activate a scroll doesn't use the scroll up unless there is a mishap. Eiletha should still have the scroll at the end of the match. Re: Roar vs Spike This was last debated back when we were still on CO thread, and the decision at the time was that it was a MEA to put your hand back on your weapon. I don't actually agree with the decision, but it was the ruling in effect when the fight was run. Re: Personal Tatoos There is nothing in the SRD to indicate this at all (I can only assume that this is in the XPHB somewhere - perhaps an early printing?). In any case, SRD take precedence over the XPHB, so the cost should be 50gp. |
| Magagumo09-13-04, 09:10 PM | Powers with a range of personal can be made into psionic tattoos, but they cost double the price of standard psionic tattoos. Pg. 24/25 of the SRD on Psionic Items. Edit: S'all right, I was clueless for a long while myself. :) |
| cellardweller09-13-04, 09:14 PM | I stand corrected. |
| SnarkHunter09-14-04, 01:13 AM | Cyric vs. Themez is up, I can't get my little code box to display though... |
| Druid Roxors09-14-04, 01:25 AM | Cyric vs. Themez is up, I can't get my little code box to display though... "Electrifying" :D |
| Beldin09-14-04, 08:33 AM | ashenai, summoning is a full round spell |
| SnarkHunter09-14-04, 09:30 AM | Aye, but even given that, there's no way Donkey could cover the distance. Generally I'm satisfied with the fight. |
| Beldin09-14-04, 11:11 AM | 1.) from Cateranes tactics: If Aemon wants to use his old trick to ride diagonally downward 90ft and use his griffon there are some things you must know. First of all, he must use his standard action before the mount takes its second move, which is after 90ft. [...] I used this tactics in the past and no one complained. Why did you wait to bring this up. I may have won a fight or two because of that in the past - if your interpretation is correct. In my oppinion I can activate the figurine at the end of my move, if I can make a melee attack (standard action) why cant I activate a magic Item (standard action, too). So where is the difference? And if your interpretation is correct LL could have informed me - the succes of my tactic entirely dependet on speed, now I wasted a round and a fight. 2.) empower spell: you empower only the dice roll, otherwise Empower spell would be much stronger than maximize spell wich can not be true. 3.) what did the griffon do the entire fight 4.) some rolls wouldn't be bad 5.) why did I make only one attempt to oppose his grapple 6.) there may be other things but I really could not see through your uhhm struckture if this sounds offending, then I am sorry - that was not intended |
| Caterane09-14-04, 01:40 PM | (1) I used this tactics in the past and no one complained. I've read that only 2 weeks ago when someone quoted it here. However, there's a way to circumvent it: ready actions. I agree that he should've informed you. I won't object if you request a change. However, there won't be further attacks after round 1; something which must be corrected aswell then. Ebelin has also the deflect arrows feat which is checked before the arrow hit the images. (2) empower spell: you empower only the dice roll, otherwise Empower spell would be much stronger than maximize spell wich can not be true. Correct. This should be changed aswell. (3) what did the griffon do the entire fight This however is run correctly. See my tactics. (4.) some rolls wouldn't be bad Ain't they written at the bottom? I haven't really checked for any mistakes in my favor, but Beldin, I seriously doubt that the outcome will change after you've been struck by feeblemind (and a 12 pt ray of enfeeblement), and I'll survive the 1st rnd pounce. |
| Jindl09-14-04, 01:59 PM | Just making sure, but you said Deflect Arrows is supposed to be checked AFTER determining whether the attack targets an image, right? -Jindl |
| Ashenai09-14-04, 04:33 PM | ashenai, summoning is a full round spell ...son of a *****! I knew I had something of a mental block regarding summon spells, but this is ridiculous! I'll have to tattoo it on my mouse hand, or something. I'll try to fix the problem. Like Snark said, it will in no way impact the fight, but I like things to be clean. I don't know how much Internet time I have left, though, so I can't promise anything. A parting shot grinds into the dust, only 3’ away as Sildaris forgets if he is the bow, the arrow, or the archer [Ranged: 1!] Moksha answers the question, “You are nothing!” [Will: 15+4=19 vs. 19; Dmg: 4/2= 2 Cha damage]. Just wanted to note that I love Magagumo's little flavour texts. Awesome, thank you! I really feel like Moksha is brought to life. :) Now if only someone *coughcatcough* would include one of my characters in a story... ;) |
| LLMadCow09-14-04, 07:47 PM | 1.) from Cateranes tactics: If Aemon wants to use his old trick to ride diagonally downward 90ft and use his griffon there are some things you must know. First of all, he must use his standard action before the mount takes its second move, which is after 90ft. [...] I used this tactics in the past and no one complained. And if your interpretation is correct LL could have informed me - the succes of my tactic entirely dependet on speed, now I wasted a round and a fight. For starters, I understood your desire to activate the Griffin and have it attack for a charge. So, as per your desires, Aemon instructed Silver to double move in one direction and Aemon held a ready action to activate the Griffin once line of sight had been reached. So, th griffin charged and pounced in one round. Done. 2.) empower spell: you empower only the dice roll, otherwise Empower spell would be much stronger than maximize spell wich can not be true. Fair enough, my mistake. 3.) what did the griffon do the entire fight The Griffin is not as agile as one might hope. It has to turn huge circles to manage to attack. Please read Cateranes tactics for explanation. 4.) some rolls wouldn't be bad If you really want all of the rolls, I can supply most of them. 5.) why did I make only one attempt to oppose his grapple Two attempts were made, but the grapple only lasted 2 rounds and you were going up against an opposed grapple check of +30. I did not list the rolls since it was VERY lopsided. 6.) there may be other things but I really could not see through your uhhm struckture Huh? I wrote the story. All of the round by round information was listed at the bottom of the page. if this sounds offending, then I am sorry - that was not intended It's all cool. You would have managed to get in a few hits and damage Ebelin, but you never specified to hold action to interrupt spell casting. Also, when he turned into a Treant, it was all downhill from there. I am not going to rerun the fight, as correcting the few errors would not have a huge impact. I am sorry if you are upset by this, but without activating the hand of glory and Ebelin buffing invisibly, it was hopeless. I was not going to allow a feebleminded Aemon activate the hand of Glory anyway... |
| Caterane09-14-04, 08:35 PM | ...nor could he activate it with Int 1. This was the reason for not going invisible on round 1. @Beldin: Wasn't it you who asked me what good a feeblemind does on a fighter? ;) |
| Beldin09-15-04, 06:34 AM | yes, but that was a week after I send the tactics - I belived it was only useful against mages then. @ll: my tactic was to have the griffon standing next to him at the end of round one and bbegin shooting arrows at round two, so that he was under pressure from thereon. well, I try to be more clear next time. I fugured that I would have a good chance against Ebelin - well that was before I knew the true power of feeblemind |
| kedi09-15-04, 08:13 AM | <<Clickee>> Weird lose by a high dice... Yea, was a great match but must the :censored: horse roll 19?!? And can he even attack? I mean his master died. Give him a chance to mourn... :P *goes to edit his character sheet* |
