Here's the initiative queue for Harvy1-Angosh:

Angosh: 20 + 4 = 24
Harvester: 13 + 8 = 21
Mini-Me: 8 + 8 = 16

Also, I've started using a real die for combats, because I like the feel of it. If anyone at any time would prefer me to use an online roller, just say so. :)

I will send out tactics for Mr. Big tomorrow night.

McTemplate has informed me that Lorelei WAS NOT set as ready for this week, was not advanced for her BUMP, and will not be fighting this week. Sorry guys.

I have received tactics for T'Var. I mwould greatly appreciate tactics sent to my e-mail, if you would be so kind. :)

It's nice to be back this week, and I have to say that I really like:

Well, according to tactics, Evram is going to manifest a 2x overchanneled energy stun ... taking 2d8 damage.

Yeah, I'll reduce it to a 1x overchanneled energy stun (manifest defensively to avoid the AoO from the Pegasus) and expend your focus to avoid damage.

Wait a sec, You could expend focus to make a quickened energy stun. Of course you could do it like Free action: Quickened power, move action: regain focus, Standard: regular power Overchanneled use talented to negate. Course with Talented all damage is negated so there isn't any reason not to do a 2x overchannel.

Ah but your the DM its up to you... *sweats*

Regaining psionic focus draws an AoO. That's why I wasn't going to do the quickened power + the overchannelled power.

Oh, that's right. Talented negates all overchannelling damage, so Evram can do a 2x overchannelled energy stun and not take any damage by expending his psionic focus.

If the pegasus is stunned by the energy stun, then it would make sense to regain focus (Paul can't take the AoO becuase he is using a reach weapon), then attempt the quickened stun.

You won't be using vigor until after you use two ego whips, according to your tactics.

BTW: As a suggestion, manifest a 2 pp vigor prior to using the 1x overchannelled psionic dominate on Sun Seeker. If you had done that this time, the vigor would have absorbed the 8 damage from overchannelling. I assume Evram would rather give up 1 additional PP rather than take 3 HP's of damage.

@Barrel + Snark - There is quite a bit of Pitlord comments in RED throughout the fight post. Please read over them and fix whatever needs fixing on character sheets and for the next fight. You are both free to edit your sheets now that they have been copied onto the fight post.

Urgh, no. From the PHB, page 113:

"A typical Large character wielding a reach weapon of the appropriate size can attack a creature 15 or 20 feet away, but not adjacent creatures or creatures up to 10 feet away."

(but he will also be affected by the Energy Stun as it targets a 5' intersection, say at the point between the horse & rider.

There is no point between the horse and rider; a rider occupies every square his mount occupies. Any area effect (like Energy Stun) will affect the rider if it affects the horse, and vice versa.

Tactics for Pard recieved, waiting for Eiletha.

11-06-04, 07:32 AM
Excerpt from Alavar's tactic:
Cast immeadly Summon Monster II from the scroll (summon fiendish monstrous scorpions, 1d3 shoudl come out) to my enemy when I either see or hear his generall location. Then cast Heat Metal from the scroll (this should warm things up) if my enemy still wears mithral chain shirt. Then move towards him. Then cast Divine favour and move again towards him (in cover and out of sigth preferably). Because you are not able to normally cast those spells, you were unable to cast them from scrolls. THe only way around this is to use UMD, of which you have no ranks. Also, if you wanted to hide better, try investing ranks in it. He found you every round, so I just didn't put it there.

Scaryfroman, the mentioned spells are all on Alavar's list so he can cast them without problem (Heat metal is on the Fire domain spell list). Since the spells are higher in casterlevel than Alavar he needs to make a casterlevel check (1d20+2 vs Dc1+CL=Dc4). If he fails the check (on a 1 only) the scroll does not activate, and he needs to make a wisdom check Dc5 to avoid a mishap.

And the hiding might not be as useless as you said. Alavar has +2 hide/move silently (+3dex,-1acp) while Solstice has +4 spot/listen. With the distance penalty of -1 per 10ft Solstice might indeed have trouble locating Alavar.

And thirdly, Alavar did nothing but move the whole fight when it is clear that he has no chance of getting a mounted combatant, while the Solstice pecked him with bolts. This is surely not the way Kazzaroth would like to have his character adepted even IF his tactics would've broken down.

Also, according to the positions, neither of the combatants moved overly much; especially Alavar who sometimes stood on one spot doing nothing, like in round 6 where you completely forgot about him.

Please correct this in your fight. Thanks.

I like to win, but unfortunately I agree with most of it...

Heat Metal is on the Sun Domain, not the Fire Domain, please check that information. Produce Flame is in the Fire Domain Level 2 Spell Slot... so he was correct on not allowing that scroll...

Zerone

11-06-04, 05:19 PM
Gain Psionic Focus: If you have 1 or more power points available, you can meditate to attempt to become psionically focused. The DC to become psionically focused is 20. Meditating is a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity.

Special: You can use Concentration to manifest a power or use a psi-like ability defensively, so as to avoid attacks of opportunity altogether.
Well, you are using the skill twice in the same action. I believe that it is a move action for you with your feat, but you are still using it twice for the same action. There's something not correct there. It would be similar to walking and skipping at the same time - they are both modes of transportation used by your feet, but they cannot both used at the same time, you must choose one or the other...

However, I am no expert on Psionics, and this is just how I see it. This is an interesting question...

It's more like trying to balance a book on your head while walking a tightrope. They are both Balance checks, and you can do both at the same time.
When you gain focus, you are concentrating to find your "Center" (or something like that). Gaining Focus defensively just means you are doing it without letting your guard down, you're watching out for your opponent while concentrating, which requires a seperate Concentration check at DC 15 as in the rules I quoted above. (By the way, I quoted the Concentration skill from the main SRD, not the Psionic SRD)

I had thought of it that way, but the PHB version states:

You can use Concentration to cast a spell, use a spell-like ability, or use a skill defensively, so as to avoid attacks of opportunity altogether. This doesn’t apply to other actions that might provoke attacks of opportunity (such as movement or loading a crossbow).
So, it contradicts itself... It says it can be used on a skill, but not moves, and this is a move equivalent action or full round action, similar to loading a crossbow - reloading your mind by meditation. I just get stuck on using a using a skill to aid itself... it's strange.

In your example, the DC of the Balance would be increased to make it harder, but what about the DC of the Concentration check for Defensively Regaining Psionic Focus? That would definitely be harder... Hmmm... It's confusing.

Caterane

Paul wins and used nothing.
Evram loses and used nothing.
I think Evram wins this fight 9 times out of 10. But every once in a while, a gladiator gets lucky, and Paul was the lucky one this time. The dice rolls ranged from really high to really low. But Paul seemed to get the really high ones when he needed it and the really low ones when it was less important.

A 9 in 10 chance? I don't think so. Let's do the math...

Initiative Paul+6, Evram+7. That's a 42.75% chance for Paul to win ini. Ok.
Now he rolled a critical hit with a lance on a mounted charge: 5% chance.
Together with win ini = 1.92%.

Now Evram blasted him. Paul had to succeed with Will+11 vs Dc31. Only managable with a natural 20. Together with the reflex save, win ini, and the crit we are at 0.19%.

The second reflex/will save (+11 vs Dc23; 69.8% chance) we have a chance of 0.13% that this happens.

After that, the Paul's AoO (+10 vs Ac21) hits aswell which puts us to a total chance of 0.065% that this scenario happens.

That is a 1-in-1528 chance.

We should also keep in mind that if any of these rolls would've been in Evram's favor, he surely would've won the fight.

Wow indeed.

@Snark: A pity. You almost overtook Rhoar in the Unstoppable list.

Edit: Oops, there was also a chance that Evram survives the crit and the AoO (especially since Paul rolled way above average in damage) so Paul's chances just grew even slimer.
Jindl

11-08-04, 03:04 PM
It is irrelevant who wins initiative, as Evram doesn't buff until after the first 2 rounds. After the crit, the saves vs stunning were also fairly irrelevant, as Evram would next attack the Pegasus twice with Ego Whip, giving Paul plenty of opportunity to recover from being stunned, draw his bow, and fire it multiple times (if the Pegasus was dazed from the Ego Whip). Snark really should include an emergency heal w/vigor as part of his tactics, so that he does so immediately instead of trying to fight with only 1 hp.

The most important roll in the fight was the critical hit with the lance. And they happen. Just ask Jindl, who lost both times to the Harvester on a lance critical hit.

There were three natural 20's rolled during the fight, 1 by Evram and 2 by Paul.
There was one natural 1 during the fight, rolled by Paul. Paul and the Pegasus rolled very low a number of other times, as well.

The dice rolls were pretty average, really. The difference is as I said. Paul's high rolls were are the best possible times, while Evram's high roll really wasn't that important.

As for the damage rolls, they seemed pretty high across the board, with Paul scoring a 42 on 3d8+24 and Evram scoring 11 pts on 2d6. Even the 30 pts on the 10d6 electrical stun is only slightly below average (and the extra 5 pts to make it average is irrelevant in the fight).

Overall I do think Evram wins 9 out of 10 times. I think better tactics could made the odds even more in his favor (I would recommend starting with the overchannelled vigor then sticking to the overchanneled energy stuns instead of messing with ego whip). But characters get lucky sometimes.

@Snark: A pity. You almost overtook Rhoar in the Unstoppable list.

As for Evram surpassing Rhoar, I think he already did. I'll also mention that I was the one who predicted Evram would go unbeaten. Guess I was wrong.

BTW: I really don't appreciate the insinuation you made that I fixed the fight. I don't really give a rats a$$ whether Evram surpasses Rhoar. Rhoar won 8 in a row because he was lucky. I think Evram is possibly the scariest PC out there, and has been since 3rd level. But I do wish you would quit being such a prick all the time, especially towards me.
Caterane

11-08-04, 03:23 PM
Sure sure. No matter what Evram had planned afterwards...if he would've gotten away (by not having this INCREDIBLE misfortune; just on a single important roll) he would've won the fight. Kill the pegasus and fly above groundbound Paul while manifesting powers. His chances to lose were even less than 0.065%.

I merely calculated the chances of this scenario, and offered my condolences to Snark. No more, no less. You can now see it as you want. I see it my way (which I won't post openly).

Hey Cat, a few questions re: Crest v. Ex Nihilo

1st: On both rds 5&6 Nihilo is seen absorbing 10 points of damage, but he was out of pp after the first absorption.

So, Ex Nihilo has 53/48 on Rd 5.

On rd 6, Ex Nihilo takes 24 damage, but is listed as taking 3. So he's actually at 29 hp.

Ex Nihilo, in Roudn 6, responds with a flurried attack, but his attack bonus should be + 8 (13-1 [flurry] -4 [attacking in grapple]). Thus, his first attack hits, but second one (6+8 vs. 18) misses, so Crest is at 38/68. Also, he can only Stun once per round, though that changes little.

On Round 7, Crest fails the pin, and Ex Nihilo attacks, but his second swing would miss again with the +8 bonus, so Crest is at 28/68.

On round 8, Crest pins, and Ex Nihilo breaks out with a flurried pin (his check is one lower, but he still made it). He punches hard, and Crest is at 17/68.

Thusly the fight is still going, and Ex Nihilo has 29/48 hp, not 50....

Thank you for your consideration.
Ashenai

11-08-04, 06:35 PM
Yeah, confirmed.

But Mag, your tactics are dysfunctional at the core... perhaps you didn't know that pins only last for a single round, and have to be re-established every round. Unless you have iterative attacks or a cohort, pinning someone is utterly useless.

Grappling a Monk is generally a bad, bad idea, except in a few very specific cases.

EDIT: Cat, if you're changing the fight, please also do not have Ex Nihilo try to initiate grapples (round 5). It's a really long shot, and even if I succeed, Cresting Sun can just escape in the next round if he wants to. Just stick to Flurries and Stunning Fists (1/round) please, as per tactics. And Trip if Cresting Sun is not raging for any reason.
Caterane

11-08-04, 06:58 PM
Ok, corrected the mistakes.
Magagumo

11-08-04, 07:05 PM
Aye, I had thought pinning lasted longer... but clearly it is only useful with Flurry of Blows & Extra Attacks. *Shrug* It was a good, close match- if I had known better I would have stuck to the hammer and shield style, but I have the sense that it wouldn't have gone too differently (my cumulative AC would have been 1 lower, so you see perhaps the only "smart" thing would have been to grapple Ex Nihilo with shield in hand, thus getting my AC even a bit higher...)

Ex Nihilo hits harder than she does, but I prefer not using GMF :). Good on ya, Ashenai :)

Good to see that some things never change...

Seriously Cat, its a game, it doesn't really matter. Sometimes the dice just won't roll your way. So long as tactics were followed, I try not to let it get me down.

Is anyone able to take Karl vs. T'var though? I have an RL game tonight otherwise I would be obliged since T'var is being rather generous about it. I've PM'd Mag about it, when he lets me know yay or nay about it we'll let you know, T'Var. Thanks for piping up!

Edit - Mag has agreed, so I'll PM tactics as soon as I can.

no no no, Magagumo has agreed to let you pitlord Tair Malek vs. Ban'zanifal, and I just sent you my tactics for it :).

If the tactics get sent to me, I could have it up in the wee hours of tonight. I get loopy during those times, so it would be a jolly soiree... If someone else is willing to take it though, they are more than welcome...

Hey T'var few not-to-major things I noticed in the fights;
In Cyric vs. Rhaegar: Manifesting a 1 round power means it comes into being at the begining of your next turn, not before the end of the round you start manifesting it in. I don't think this made a big difference though, its more a matter of organization.

In Tair vs. Ban 1) I don't think Mag wanted Sag to double move, as he mentioned having him ready his longbow to disrupt. 2)In the 2nd round once Sag failed his Will save he was dazed in addition to losing charisma. That means he couldn't have moved for Ban's charge. 3) In round 3 you have Tairs ready action move him to cast cone of cold on Ban. A readied action can only be a Standard move or Free action, you can't combine them, which means Tair might have moved before he readied or didn't move at all.

Overall I don't think there were any absolutely critical errors and since the deadline to edit characters upon us I wouldn't recomend substantial editing of the fight. I was just pointing them out for posterity :).

actually directly from the SRD
A spell that takes 1 round to cast is a full-round action. It comes into effect just before the beginning of your turn in the round after you began casting the spell. You then act normally after the spell is completed.

Yea, this stuff happens, Snark ;)

I would also point out- for posterity alone, that Mino's init should be rolled inidividually (no change, really), and that Ban likely should have been using Vigor once the Cone of Cold smacked him, thus giving him several mroe rounds- in theory. Finally, a held Crytsal Shard (5d6 dmg, likely similar damage to the bow but only needing to hit a touch AC) was to be used, not the longbow.

(Note: It's hard to ready an action agaist Psionics, since we can standardly hide our manifestattions- DC 16 for Vigor with a +12 mod and all...)

I could request an extension to account for Ban's liklely extended lifespan and the failed Cone, but I appreciate the fight being run at all- so don't worry about it, I'm sure Tair could have still pulled it off ;)

I would agree with this except that since Crystal Shard is a Ray power you must see your target, and since Tair was under a greater invis you could not see him, the held action with bow was really his only way to hope you made the listen check to fire and try to interupt his spells.

and with the vigor yes it would have givin 10 more hp but with Tairs spell abilitys once he had gone greater invis the chance of the fight going on more than 2 extra rounds is slim

@T'Var

Once again, thank you for running that fight. I'm not much of a nitpicker, so the only thing I noticed was that the duration of Greater Invisibility should have read as 10 rounds instead of 9 rounds due to Tair's Spell Power. Not a big deal at all - well done.

Karl (Macfry) vs T'Var (T'Var): LLMadCow
Mr. Big (LLMadCow) vs Jin Szen (Zerone): Druid Roxors

MacFry, T'Var, LLMadCow, and Zerone... send me your tactics and I will run them at once. The sooner I get them, the more likely you will be able to be paired tonight.
Magagumo

Actually, for clarification, rays (or any ranged touches) can be used on invisible foes- you simply suffer the standard miss chance. In fact, any time you make an attack roll for an effect, you can strike an invisible foe.

Many thanks to T'Var and Caterane for offering to run the fights. Alas, I just checked in since your posts and there was no time to send tactics, besides, we needed LLMadCow's tactics, and since he is MIA, we'll wait a week.

Thanks again,

(Posting this here since the new thread isn't up yet)

Beldin, if it's okay with you, I'd be delighted to activate Ex Nihilo, and he and Rhaegar could have themselves a nice clean fight. :)

I wanted to activate him, but I didn't have the time to do so. :(
