Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match.

News and Whatnot

There is currently a discussion in the Courtroom about...

How bag of tricks animals can retreat into thier bag & how they interact with spells like protection from evil.
Exactly what sharing Synesthete on a Psicrystal will do.
The extent of Cerebral Blind, an ability of the Slayer prestige class.

Check it out if you'd like the contribute.

Rules of Gladius
All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius.
It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2.
Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders.

Pairings
GM MindWandererB will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline.
Link to pairings.
Make sure that your character is not in prison.

Pitlording
You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight.
If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help.
You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete.
If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool (http://wormhole.ath.cx/coco/coco_dist.php) should suffice.
Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold.
If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact.

Comments & Concerns
Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread.
Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords.
Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN!

If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius!

Pairings done....

With our two most prolific pitlords, templer and Telin, both down with viri (one electronic, one biological), a State of Emergency was unavoidable. And even then, getting everything covered was... "fun." My apologies to all involved.

Edit: Couple of mistakes there. Hold on a minute.

Edit 2: Fixed.

Valen Sky (Hirumajoe) and Unknown Monster vs. Kracknol (SauroGrenom) and Istima Telarc (Zevox) : lonewolf [City] [Team]
Well thats... different. Good news is that Istima's knowledge skills will likely give us full understanding of the monster in advance. Bad news is that if Valen gets a good friend, we may well be screwed regardless. I'll forward to coming up with tactics for that one.

Monster Info for ECL13 Team fight:
1 Half-Celestial Phrenic Dire Tiger

Even with all those templates, this puppy shouldnt get equipment, right?

Damn, I sure hope not! That thing is scary enough as it is. PR 26, 152 hp, fly 80' (good), a slew of SLAs and PLAs, pounce, rake, improved grab, and plenty of pure melee power. Just beating that will be a chore, much less Valen.

Wow. We're going to need some serious teamwork here Sauro...

Stop right there.
I just noticed that this is once again an illegal application of the Half-Celestial Template:
Phrenic only increases your Int if its already 3 or higher and Halfcelestial can only be applied to a creature with Int 4 or higher.
Rerolling monster now...

EDIT: Reroll result: 3 Clay Golems

EDIT2: After thinking about it for a second I have to reroll those golems too. No ranged ability against 2 flying enemies counts as an autoloss.
Reroll result: 2 Xephs

I´ll work on detailed information for Hirumajoe asap.

16 HD, both templates give PR/SR 10+ HD. Looks like 26 to me.

I'm not sure if thats better or worse. The good news is they can't fly, have no projectile attacks, and could go berserk and wind up hindering Valen. The bad news is they're immune to any powers that allow SR, have DR 10 that we can't penetrate, are immune to crits, and have a cumulative 270 hp. And we have to kill them all to win.

That is going to be one tough fight, no two ways about it.

Just wanted to point out that Varuxor, while reported as active in the characters of gladius thread isn't actually showed in the pairings.

As he is simply crafting 3 powerstones, I'd like him to show up, doing that as a full activity.

Two reasons. One is the State of Emergency; since you're not pitlording, you only get to have one active character this week. Two, I missed it anyway because you forgot to write FULL in caps so I'd see it.

Edit: Take a look at dulsi's Orgauth, and compare the title line to Varuxor's, and you'll see why I'm liable to miss things when the caps aren't there.

Well, once again we have different foes, and once again I'm not sure if its an improvement or a worse result. Two Xephs, and the only Xephs on the EL 13 list are two ECL 11 Psions. Christ.

Well, I'll see about PMing you tomorrow afternoon Sauro. I have a lot to do tonight, and over much of tomorrow, but I should be able to spare time in the afternoon and evening tomorrow, and I'm free Friday and Saturday at least. We'll come up with something.

Well, I don't see that much of a difference honestly, but I'll make sure to write what I'm crafting in the title line as well (I suppose you were referring to Morro, btw).

I thought that despite being in SoE a character crafting doesn't consume community resources so it could stay active anyway.

A lot of things are "required." But if I insisted that lack of any of those things resulted in a forfeit, we'd have, I'm estimating, about four to six forfeits a week.

Oops. Didn't get around to creating him earlier. Wanted to get a character in rather than sit out another week. Should have done it earlier so that I could properly fill in everything. I have a background for him too that I haven't written up yet. (Actually that is why I didn't create him last week. I just can't create a collection of stats. I need to have an idea for the character history and thoughts.)

Looks ok for the most part (unlucky but ok) ... however there is one point: Energy current does not also affect objects (no objects mentioned in target line) and therefore both Varjo and Käsi are immune to the cold energy current due to their fortitude immunity.

Note that this is different to energy missile which does specify objects in the target line.

Unfortunately, it looks like Stormwind is correct on that one. Talk about consistency, eh? ...

After the first Energy Current fails, Darian should be able to notice that something is wrong there and switch to energy ball or missile which both work against objects.

Lets hope he stays that lucky.

Since when do you provoke AoO while withdrawing and blinded? That is new to me. Checked it and looks youre right on this one...

Also Varjo cannot enter the square of a creature protected by force effects. And even if she was able to, one move could only provoke one AoO not one for each threatened square left.

I got one more fight assigned than I asked for, and the Team fight is taking much more time than expected, so I have to drop one fight. Its a simple ECL3 fight if anyone wants to pick it up:

Sorry about the rushed character sheet.

Orgauth's got a bug hunt from the looks of it. Hopefully he can get to melee and get some good hits in.

Start in the open as close to the center pillars as possible with masterworked mighty bow drawn. Cast shield sharing with my familiar and move towards one of the single rock close to the center (or her if I see her). Move into the center pillars looking for her. If she isn't found try investigating the starting locations using rocks as cover where possible. If I get to melee, drop the bow, draw the masterworked heavy fail and attack. She shouldn't be able to escape once in melee due to her slow speed.

The bat stays with Orgauth unless he detects the opponent. In which case he will lead the orc towards the opponent but staying within 5 feet so the shield spell works.

If she doesn't have her rapier drawn while in melee have the bat move into her square and use "Aid Another" to help Orgauth. Looks like a -1 for attack modifier (0 BAB, -5 strength, +4 size). (Does that still count as close enough for share spell? Doesn't really matter.)

If in melee and the bat get injured, have the bat withdraw.

Start behind the left L holding Powerstone of Chameleon and the loaded sling.
Use Powerstone of Chameleon, Move action for listen.
Full defence for one round, Move action for listen.
Use Powerstone of Force Screen, Move action for listen.
Search for Orgauth, hiding. End every round behind cover.
When the orc is spoted SA and PShot.
Regain cover and continue SA without PShot, ontil the bat enters range of blindsight/scent or ontil she notices that the SA doesn't add any extra dmg, then regain cover and focus, and PShot the orc even out of SA range.
If the orc attacks in melee and doesn't have a shield active- fient and attack in melee with Rapier. If his shield is active retreat behind cover using bluff.
If the orc grpls- esc and act as in melee.
If entangled- bluff, move behind cover and wait ontil the effect ends, ready PShot at first sight of the orc.

Please post Mekhoar in the battle thread as soone as posible, because I want to update her, and I'll be ofline most of next week.

Thank you for pitlording,

sorry guys for what i'm about to do:

this marks the third time i'm literally hit big time with an ECL >10 fight.
I was already really unable to do any of the previous two fights as precise and concentrated as i'd liked it, but this last one is just too much. Even thinking of it, my head starts to spin.

This is a defeat i do not like but i'll admit it: i'm not fit for that. At ECL 3-6, noone really complains about my fights - they are run clean, and easy to look at. I did not like myself how i ran Asran vs. Kraegin, Kracknol vs. Baelin or even Mithos vs. Balthazar (ECL7). And this is why i have to quit this.

to make it up at least a bit to lonewolf, i'm doing what i do best - running this fight:

Also Varjo cannot enter the square of a creature protected by force effects. And even if she was able to, one move could only provoke one AoO not one for each threatened square left.
You might have a point about an incorporeal creature sharing the space with someone protected by a force effect ... although I can't find anything after a quick search it does make sense so I would buy it.

Regarding movement and AoO's, If you exit two squares that another character threatens, then you provoke two AoO's (as specified in the SRD under AoO's).
Normally, a character can only take advantage of one provoked AoO per round, however, Varjo has the combat reflexes feat which allows her to take both AoO's...
Of course, given my comment above this would be academic ... ;)

Edit: Since Darian is blinded in the darkness, he would move at half speed and thus could only withdraw up to 60ft, however at that stage he is down to 1 str remaining which means that his equipment weighs more than his carrying capacity and thus (by the srd (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/carryingAndExploration.html)) he can only stagger around (loses dex bonus and can only move 5ft as a full-round action). That means that Varjo will make the final attack one round later.

you're wrong on that, though. any given action only provokes once from any given character. so, if someone moves into your reach (AoO) and grapples you in the same turn, you get two AoOs. if he simply moves, he only creates one.

Moving out of more than one square threatened by the same opponent in the same round doesn’t count as more than one opportunity for that opponent. All these attacks are at your full normal attack bonus.

to make it up at least a bit to lonewolf, i'm doing what i do best - running this fight:

If no one else has picked this up by this evening, I will see if I can knock it out tonight.

you're wrong on that, though. any given action only provokes once from any given character. so, if someone moves into your reach (AoO) and grapples you in the same turn, you get two AoOs. if he simply moves, he only creates one.
Doh ... thanks ... dunno how I missed that ... oh well maybe I'm just getting old ;)

Valen & 2 Xephs vs Kracknol & Istima is up.

This is by far the most complicated fight I´ve ever run and I wouldnt at all be suprised if there are multiple mistakes in there, but Im pretty sure that nothing will change the outcome of this fight.

@Zevox: If you dont want to surrender at that point I will continue tomorrow, but Istima is getting at least 12d6 concussion blasts without save every round without counting normal Astral Construct attacks, Xephs Ego Whips and Valen hasnt even made a single attack yet.

two mistakes i can see immediately:
names in the rewards are copied from another fight.

also i think the hippogriff should get an AoO on round 3, when eland moves away - unless he did retreat/withdraw, which should be marked as such.

Thanks for the fast Reply WB

Yes the reward was a copy with the wrong names.

the reason Hippo din't get a AOO in round 3 was that he was 30 ft. up, which I failed to mention.

Both are now fixed

Well I lucked out with being able to see her at the start. I don't see a spell failure check for my shield spell. (I had meant to include tactics to try again if it fails but forgot.)

As for drawing the bow, that was just in case. I really intended to get into hand-to-hand. I should of specified when to use it. (It wouldn't have made a difference since I should of specified running to her which would have been my prefered option.)

Question: You didn't have the bat "aid another". Is that not possible for a bat since they don't threaten?

no, i just missed it. (and it could not have moved there anyway before mekhoar drew the rapier unless it got to far ahead of you where shield would have ended.)

Thanks for the run Turanson.
I think you missed casting time for SNA is 1 round. when in round 2 Soren begins casting it, the hippogriff will come out just at the beginning of round 3.

As Eland saw him I think he'll use that time to quickly move further away.

The same applies to the elemental later.

Ok. I was just curious. Telin wasn't sure if it could aid another without threatening. Just thought I'd ask in case I try it again. (I should have also specified if it was adding to hit or ac.)

since aid another would not give this in its description, it is not necessary
In melee combat, you can help a friend attack or defend by distracting or interfering with an opponent. If you’re in position to make a melee attack on an opponent that is engaging a friend in melee combat, you can attempt to aid your friend as a standard action.

since a bat can attack if it shares the space of another creature, you can use aid.

will be edit tomorow

I don't thinkl Eland will hurry away instead I think he will move to hide behind the rock and then move further to the east alway hidding, until it's clear that the summoned monster sees him. then he will run to base Soren.

If you feel I should interpread your tatict otherwise please tell me and I'll consider it.

I wanted to base Soren when the summons went off, but apparently I left point 4) in the tactics, so you are right.

However I think Eland should move towards the pillar and use that to hide, if he really wants to base Soren more easily.

Dark one vs Young dragon is done. @ templer: I think you would have really had a good chance if you had had gruul move out of full-attack range. generally I think stalling for dark one's spells to take down the dragon would have been best. _especially_ given the thing's high AC despite being blind & sheer number of attacks (6, wowzers!)

thanks to MWB for showing me oh-so-long ago that mirror image is really better than invis in many ways. Especially when you roll a 4 on the d4 for it...

MindWandererB

02-19-08, 01:46 AM
NOTE: Madness gives an additional +1 on the attacks of a Spiritual Weapon.
Granted Power: The character gains an Insanity score equal to half his or her class level. For spellcasting (determining bonus spells and DCs), the character uses his or her Wisdom score plus his or her Insanity score in place of Wisdom alone.
For all other purposes, such as skills and saves, use Wisdom minus Insanity in place of Wisdom. Spiritual Weapon isn't within the category of bonus spells or DCs. So Madness gives you a penalty to hit with it, not a bonus.

Also, Shield Other doesn't seem to have been applied. I doubt it matters under the circumstances.

More importantly, Khamul, being a giant, isn't a legal target for Hold Person (which is why I didn't ask to cast it on him). Since altering that will allow Khamul to use Expansion, it could potentially be fight-affecting.
Hirumajoe

02-19-08, 01:56 AM
Whoops... I'm going to have revisit that again. The most fight affecting thing that happens is he gets a CDG attempt since he's *definitely* in range. Looks like this is going to be an overturn.

thanks to MWB for showing me oh-so-long ago that mirror image is really better than invis in many ways. Especially when you roll a 4 on the d4 for it...

I think you made some REALLY big mistakes when making this dragon....

1)it's Bonus to attack shouldn't be +15 - it's +13 and the rest of it's attacks is +10 = it has BAB +10 and Str 15 (10+2=12+1(focus) - i have no idia where the +15 came from...
2)young brass is medium sized - so he has 5! attacks and not 6 - dmg on them is 1d8(bite), 1d6(claws) and 1d4(wings) (AND NOT 2d6/1d8/1d6/1d8)
3)THE TATTOE OF EXPANSION IS ILLEGAL - tattoe of expansion costs 600 GP - 2(pl)X3(ML)X50(tattoe cost)X2(personal)=600 that's already more then it's supposed to have (560). (not to mention it's unfair since it essentialy gives him a boost of 2! age categories) - i think you forgot the house rule about increasing Power level (And so price) on tattoes also.

the fact it does less dmg on attack, has a lower attack bonus and CANT expand might make a large diffrence here already.

Other then that iam sorry to say you didnt play the dark one very smart, dark one encounters mirror images - OK assuming he doesnt know what it is (and he has spellcraft - and might ID it) - after the first spell cast it should be obvios - he has a magic missiel wand - why waste the spells that can actually matter on the images? (and the images dont get the benefit of shield...)

beyond that - Gruul got to melee and attacked, So why in round 9 when ther is only 1! image and gruul is already in melee dont you simply delay, grull will attack - destroying the images giving a clear shot to do the ray of exhustion.

Round 9 - dragon doesnt have tail attack - so it shoulnt hit.

Round 11 -bonus on to hit with claw should be +10 so it miss.

Please note - grull attacks in the roller are in the wrong round - they should be at rounds 9 and 10 not 10 and 11 - so you need to roll from round 12+ for his attacks.

i might have missed something more - this is just a quick review.

p.s - another bone to pick - you are supposed to give the dragon expendbles like a gladiator - you gave him only 1 casting of each expandbale - I know i give 2 or 3 castings of each expandbles to monsters - They are alerady favorites to win - giving them only 1 is essentially - again - letting them nova for no apperant reason.

@mwb:

i was referring to this part:

For spellcasting ([...]), the character uses his or her Wisdom score plus his or her Insanity score in place of Wisdom alone.

and believed the part in brackets is just a clarification.

and: good to see you underestimated the power behind my cleric. ;) dispelling everything was nice to start, but getting hold person in - YAY! first fight won by the supporter. :)

@hirumajoe: thnx for the run.
two things:
1) khamul should get a followup attack after the trip, too. is not important, since we won anyway.
2) rewards are off. crucio has political career, so we should get rewards x 100 +25 ally + 25/3 = 8.33333 PC) for a total of 2000 XP, 2133 GP.
McJarvis

02-19-08, 08:47 AM
@temp: Wow...yeah, I dunno where I got some of that stuff. I was thinking that his BAB was +12 for some reason, then +2 str and +1 weapon focus(bite)

And the expansion thing is another mistake that I usually don't make. His attacks are due to him being large sized, though- dragons are granted extra attacks when they get bigger. It doesn't matter how they got there.

p.s - another bone to pick - you are supposed to give the dragon expendbles like a gladiator - you gave him only 1 casting of each expandbale - I know i give 2 or 3 castings of each expandbles to monsters - They are alerady favorites to win - giving them only 1 is essentially - again - letting them nova for no apperant reason.

There is nothing in the rules that says the monster is supposed to pack away 3x of each expendable, nor do I know why you would think this is the case. I picked expendables given my cap with the following guidelines in my head:

1) I want something that will augment the dragon's abilities
2) I want something that will defend against heavy-hitter meleers, SoD effects, and psion-energy ray types for a few rounds
3) A mishmash of other things that would protect me against various effects/abilities. This list includes the toolbox of things like pro-evil, synesthete, hide from animals, etc, etc. I ran out of funds for this, though, due to the expansion.

Another mistake I made was the tattoo of chameleon. I've been working on pseudodragons all day and as a result thought my dragon had a +20 to hide, which I discovered mid-fight it did not....

Anyway- hopefully I'll issue a correction tonight.

ps- As far as playing the darkone- I played him as you gave me tactics for. I really don't know much about your character, nor do I know much about running straight wizards at this ecl- so I had no basis of judgement on whether I was being "unfair". As I said in my initial comments- you likely needed to address movement more, since as it is your only movement directions are if the dragon gets encumbered.

edit-

pps- I was thinking about it on my way to work. I'll replace the problematic expansion tattoo with a potion of bull's strength. This has the advantages that:

1) It is similar in effect to the expansion tattoo
2) It takes the same amount of time to apply
3) It boosts the to-hit of the dragon to 15/12's, which means less re-rolling.
4) It still penalizes the dragon for using an improper expendable- combine that with the chameleon tattoo mistake and the dragon is using 250gp less expandables than he was entitled to.

I will re-reroll the incorrect damage rolls and delete all tail-slaps from existance.

OG - let's make it crystal clear:

you are a wizard fighting a dragon - you see All your spells gets abosrebd by images, you are about to do your last good spell, BUT there is still an image left that can ruin it for you - Fortuently - You have a Cohort who in about 0.1 seconds will attack the dragon and almost certinly destroy the image, Should you do the spell - or delay - something which doesnt hurt you at all and wait for the cohort to destory the images and give you a clear shot?

do i really have to spesify like this: If the dragon (which i dont know that has mirror image) get to a situation in he only has 1 image left and i want to cast a spell, and the cohort is in melee and he is about to attack Then delay for cohort?

come on - that's asking Way 2 much - especially on a monster fight in which i dont know what expandbles the other guy has and i can't plan for this sort of thing.

About picking expendbles - Sure - there is nothing saying you have to give them mulitple castings But since the monsters are made for only 1 encounter - in fact giving them only 1 of each increase their power and their chance to win and let them Nova (while a charcter has to think about how much it's costing him and his 2 other fights). if you feel comftable doing that i can't do anything about it exept get ****** off.

Did you ask yourself if you are being fair here? since replacing an illegal expandble for an expandble which is Actually BETTER (better to hit rolls - which are what really matter vs low hp enemy) - seems wrong to me.

p.s - not to mention replacing the expandble after knowing what it's effect will be on the fight is Also wrong.

@t10: regarding the tattoo/potion issue: Illegal items mean illegal fights, I think the Bulls Strength is a good compromise to the issue. McJ MUST trade it out and Bulls is the logical choice, and would have been chosen if he had gotten some sleep.

Let McJ do a revision and see if things change.

@lonewolf, templer10: (given that Darian only provokes 1 AoO for his movement in round 10) Darian is blinded (total darkness), and he is down to only 1 str remaining which means that his equipment (13 lbs) weighs more than his maximum carrying capacity (10 lbs) and thus (by the srd) he can only stagger around (loses dex bonus and can only move 5ft as a full-round action).
Thus I don't see any way in which Darian can do anything to affect the outcome of the fight before Varjo makes the final attack one round later.

Major problem with this... I notice in round 3 that Raskos is hit with melee damage, but the contingency to use Intellect Fortress isn't used. Raskos should only take half damage. That's fight changing, and needs to be adjusted.

Ah shoot. Once Kracknol went down without taking at least one Xeph with him, our chances sank into the gutter. :censored: I hate random monsters - if those Xephs even just had the normal 1/3 of their pp limit this would be so much better (they're both 2 levels below Istima, Istima has more than half his pp left from previous fights, and yet they still both have more pp available for this fight than him! Yeah, thats completely fair  ).

There is at least one error I can spot though. The Astral Constructs have one too many powers. They were manifest as seventh-level constructs, which only permits them one ability from menu C (they took Concussion). Boost Construct lets them take one additional power from a menu they have a power from, which means one from C, yet instead they have pounce and flight from menu B. I doubt it matters much though - even without flight those damn overpowered free action augmented concussion blasts will leave Istima screwed.

Therador Goldscale (lonewolf) vs Raskos the Jade Father (SauroGrenom) vs Archdevil Asran (Zevox) [Free-for-all] is up - all 7 rounds of it.

I will edit in the rewards after my lunch date with my wife and kids and my 2 nieces and my nephew...
Woah - that was certainly not the result I expected. I'll take it though, especially after Istima's disaster of a fight. Asran even levels up - at last, hes starting to get some of the Blackguard powers I've been waiting for since creating him two years ago :D .

...once I get the chance to update him, that is. For now, school work calls :( .

Edit: And yeah, lonewolf is right - Intellect Fortress is only useful vs psionic attacks. Physical or magical ones it won't help you with at all.

@mwb:

i was referring to this part:

For spellcasting ([...]), the character uses his or her Wisdom score plus his or her Insanity score in place of Wisdom alone.

and believed the part in brackets is just a clarification. That should probably go to the Courtroom.
and: good to see you underestimated the power behind my cleric. ;) dispelling everything was nice to start, but getting hold person in - YAY! first fight won by the supporter. :)It wasn't so much that I underestimated, but that there really wasn't much I could do about that. I knew it was going to come down to whether I could blitz you fast enough to win before I was overrun by your superior numbers. The dice were just against me.

Speaking of which: Hirumajoe, the link to the roller is broken.

Note that you can trade in an option from menu C for 2 from menu B. Similarly, you can trade in 2 from menu B for 2 from menu A. Its in the astral construct monster description.

But yeah, I totally agree random monsters are a pain. More so the lack of information than anything else.

Except that Boost Construct specifically says it must be from a menu you already have an ability from.

BOOST CONSTRUCT [PSIONIC]
Your astral constructs have more abilities.

Benefit: When you create an astral construct, you can give it one additional special ability from any menu that the construct currently has an ability from.

So lets say I choose Concussive Blast as the first power (non-boosted). Then I get a second menu C choice - say Dimension Slide. I then choose to swap Dimension Slide ( a menu C choice) for two Menu B options (flight and pounce in this case). I think I've followed all the relevant rules, no?

A manifester creating a 7th-level, 8th-level, or 9th-level astral construct can choose one special ability from this menu. Alternatively, the astral construct can have two special abilities from Menu B. (One or both of the Menu B choices can be swapped for two choices from Menu A.)

It just feels odd that the only combinations are 2xC, 3xB, or 5xA. It certainly feels non-intuitive that you can't even have a C+B according to your interpretation.

Like I stated earlier, since Darian only has 1 Str left at the end of round 10, his heavy load is only 7-10lbs. Darian's equipment weighs 13lbs so he is carrying more than his maximum load. Thus according to the SRD:Carrying, Movement, and Exploration:CARRYING CAPACITY:Lifting and Dragging (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/carryingAndExploration.html), Darian can only move 5ft per round as a full round action.

That would mean that Darian definitely wouldn't be able to move out of the darkness and thus wouldn't be able to get off the energy missile would spend 9pp less for the fight.

Just a note, when you miss with a touch spell, you are still holding the charge afterwards. Vivi doesn't need to cast a new shocking grasp in round 10 because he already have one still going. So it saves him a spell there.

Otherwise, looks pretty good. And yes, the forest is a pain to figure out. :)

does that apply when flying With the fly spell?
TelinArtho

02-19-08, 03:43 PM
Yes - note that the fly spell even slows down when you have a medium or heavy load.
Hirumajoe

02-19-08, 03:44 PM
The subject can fly at a speed of 60 feet (or 40 feet if it wears medium or heavy armor, or if it carries a medium or heavy load).

As far as I can tell it can't fly at all if it has more than a heavy load. (The only other way to read it would be literally and that the character has a fly speed of 60' when beyond the heavy load category. :D And thats just plain silly.)

Edit:

The subject of a fly spell can charge but not run, and it cannot carry aloft more weight than its maximum load, plus any armor it wears.

I should read further. So you can fly at 40' with everything but armor under maximum load (which in principle could be greater than the real maximum load including armor).

*Blink, Blink*. You know, I have no clue. I don't think you're allowed to pre-buff touch spells, but I'm not positive. Someone want to chime in on that one?

Edit: Nevermind. No he can't hold the charge for the next fight.

Limitations on Prebuffs: You may not hold the charge of a touch spell, nor can you keep up concentration long enough to use it as a prebuff. You may not pre-buff with a spell that affects the arena (wall of stone, dimensional lock, decanter of endless water, etc).

No. The feat specifically says you get one additional ability from any list you currently have an ability from. Thats it. Its not even ambiguous about it. It isn't the same as giving you another choice that you would normally have - its clearly intended to be more limited than that. Under your reading you would effectively double the amount of abilities the Construct can take.

It just feels odd that the only combinations are 2xC, 3xB, or 5xA. It certainly feels non-intuitive that you can't even have a C+B according to your interpretation.
I don't see why it wouldn't make sense. Its simply that the feat is more limited than you seem to want it to be. And to be technical, there are two more combinations you could get - 1x B and 3xA or 2xB and 2xA, since the Astral Construct description does say you can select to give up just one B for two A, not that you can only turn in both at the same time.

/me looks at roller

:-O. Looks like thorell died to bad luck again...

edit-

Pre-emptive comment-

Thorell had cast mirror image & was crouched in the river[so far as I know] - if this is the case, his images should have a +8 cover bonus to AC, making their _touch_ AC 10+3(dex)+8(imp cover) = 21. I'm pretty sure they got burned off due to a few hits on their AC without improved cover.

I guess I can't really argue with that. I'll concede that the astral constructs were designed incorrectly and should have been Dimension slide + Concussive blast, two C menu choices.

From a game design point of view though, it seems like a rather random way to do things. You have an established conversion factor in terms of balance, but restrict the trade-ins in three cases. I'm trying to figure out why they would want to allow 2xC, but restrict 1xC + 2xB or even 1xC + 1xB (since there isn't even an option to choose one power of a lesser menu choice - which would have made it crystal clear their intent). I guess I was trying to convey I wouldn't have designed a game that way and it felt non-intuitive running into it here. But I probably should know better by now that the d20 system isn't meant to be intuitive. :)

Mineau vs Thorell is up

Thorell was unlucky in the last couple of round one more hit from thorell and Mineau was the loser.

@ McJarvis: Mirror Image says that the AC of an Image is 10 + size mod + dex mod. Is says nothing about if cover applies to the AC. So by strict RAW only size and dex increase the ac of an image but I can see that cover may also apply. I don't know what other have to say about it.

Now that I've read the fight, a few points....

Web has a radius of 20 ft- which means a diameter of 40 ft. The entire forest map has a canopy overhead at 30 ft height, which means web is always a viable spell. [the canopy & the ground are opposing points]

As far as cover boni on images- I see no reason why they shouldn't benefit from them. Think of a conjuration that specifies the creature in existence has a certain AC- various boni/penalties still apply.

I'll be happy with the fight with the cover for the images applied- since the web edit would require a complete overhaul of the fight & I am impatient[ie- I don't want a carry-over to next week], I won't press that issue. The images getting cover issue, though, will require very little editing & may just give me that extra bang to get 1 more hit in. I think this is a fair compromise regardless of whether the rules are ambiguous- the web trick was specifically supposed to immobilize him and his familiar to avoid him getting into range for scorching ray/shocking grasp. He has very few long-range spells/effects.

how can on (me) be so stupied as to over look a Mirror Image one MM and it would all be over
2. I don't have a problem with Thorell and Images getting cover, but how does a a Dwarf 3'11" high. breach in 5 ft. of water.
and if he don't stand on the bottom he must be swimming, and must make swim check and then he can't crouching.

I agree that it's ridiculous that a creature less than 4 feet tall can count as Medium (similarly, that Tallfellow halflings count as Small), but such are the rules. Now that you point it out, I've modified the map rules so that they follow both our rules and the DMG, by making the pools 4 feet deep instead of 5. (That way, a medium-sized creature, which takes up a 5-foot cube by our rules, can still see.)

I should point out that Thorell has a Prisonable violation: minimum weight for a female dwarf 3'11" tall is 108 lbs.
Turanson

02-20-08, 06:45 AM
hey Sjiggie
just one more thing i came to think of
when I in round 11 hits the real Thorell I think I should be able to keep track of what Thorell that is the real one since he dosn't move around

from SRD
You can move into and through a mirror image. When you and the mirror image separate, observers can’t use vision or hearing to tell which one is you and which the image.

this to me implies that if he does not move into and through a mirror image I can keep trak on how is how, and therefor Rowier should attack and kill Thorell as soon as he has been hit.

as always I can be very wrong and if so please tell me
McJarvis

RE: Prison: This has been hashed out before, MWB. Deep Dwarves don't have listed weights, but they are described as smaller than normal dwarves. When telin pointed out the weight thing once, he agreed that my scaling down the weight was appropriate. If you want to readdress the issue with discussion, that's fine though...I don't "depend" on enlarging on my camel, by any means.

RE: moving- why wouldn't I be able to move in and out of the images? Just because I'm crouching in water doesn't mean I'm immobile- and I certainly don't lose any of my Dex bonus.

RE: Ridiculus rules: Put it this way: if a reasonable DM was around, I would get improved cover from the get-go and wouldn't have to crouch. But the rules are what they are- and dwarves don't get an "advantage" in water.

About the fight (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15124145&postcount=1740)
since you have no way to determine whether shield is running, Shield creates an invisible, tower shield-sized mobile disk of force that hovers in front of you. Only a +20 to hide while moving.
Mekhoar feints.
Orgauth attacks. (miss)
If the point of feinting is that the enemy thinks that you are dead, why did he attack? If he thinks that you are alive, why do you negate his dex bonus?

@tuna: will update rewards once i come home to contain the free activity.

about the shield: you did not specify how you'd want to locate it, looking at it might be an option, but something i believe that was never done before in coco - if you want to call such shots in coco, i'd believe you should take it to the courtroom first.

about feinting: it's about creating openings in the opponents defense, not dropping dead. you feint, he falls for it. there's nothing in the faint description that says that he loses his action. so he can attack, and later, you can attack at a better situation than you were before. (+SA)

contingencies: ways to react on certain situations. you simply state in a long or short list things like "if he manages to see me before... do xxx" "if i get attacked before buffing finished do yyy..."

about the hiding in the arena: this is not about halflings having disadvantages, but about a general hiding rule you seem to be missing - if you don't have cover or concealment, you are auto-spotted in coco. so its better to rely on something with range to snipe, since if your opponent is that close, he's likely to move to some place close to you where none of these conditions apply - he does not even have to spot you then.
